Our canoe and camping is an exciting trip through stunning countryside in Bedfordshire, less than an hour from London. Voted Top 52 Things to do in the World by Lonely Planet.
Our unique offer of woodland camping accessed by canoe or kayak has quickly become a popular choice. Book a pleasant stay at our private woodland campsite next to the River Great Ouse
We offer canoe and camping trips as well as straight camping on our island campsite. Canoe camping is the water equivalent to backpacking, carry enough to travel and camp for several days but do so in a canoe or kayak. It is also known as touring, tripping, or expedition canoeing. We have a number of different trips available which includes a camp in our woods adjacent to the river. Choose your route and then relax and enjoy the nature of the woodland.
You can paddle directly into our woodland using any craft you desire!
When you arrive you will find your pitch on our riverside camp clearings. You can settle in for a night under the stars with a little tipple cooling in the brook and the campfire crackling away.
Bring your tent or hammock. There is plenty of space in your clearings as well as lots of nooks and crannies between trees.
Each clearing has its own campfire circle. Using deadwood is prohibited because it is important to the woodland ecosystem. Please bring some firewood or purchase a bag of firewood from us when booking.
Compost Toilets. Compost toilets are what we lovingly call loo with a view. They have a simple screen and toilet seat on a wooden frame.
Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept under control and to your campsite clearing.
To make your trip even more enjoyable, you can pay for our Luggage Service, where you leave your luggage with us and we drop it off into your private clearing and collect it the following day. That way you get to paddle a nice light boat.
You can also hire our campfire kitchen equipment (Grills, Kettles, Dutch Ovens) to enable you to cook over the campfire without ruining your best camp stove pots and pans! All these options can be added when booking.
Straight camping is available only Sun to Fri.
Canoe camping is available 7 days a week from Kempston and Saturdays from Bedford.

Nearby Attractions
Our campsite is set in a beautiful 500 acres estate boating stunning riverside walks.
A 10 min walk away is the Danish Camp, which has great food set in a unique riverside location in a log cabin, as well as thing to do the with the kids, bouncy castle, birds to see and bike hire (we are on Route 51).
There is a fantastic pub in the village (Willington) called the Crown, with great food and drink, just 15 min from the campsite.
The local shop is a 20 min walk to help get you stocked up ready for you camp.
Just a mile downstream, you`ll find a lovely pub called the Anchor, which you can reach by canoe or along cycle route 51.

Owner Directions
If you`re driving, the closest you can get is the Willington Dovecote, at which point you have a 20 minute hike into the woods. You can follow the map references above to get there: there is a locked gate you can climb over, marked as the entrance to Matchstick woods, which leads to a forest track that leads to the clearings on the left hand side. Be sure to camp in a clearing, not on a path!
