Located on the side of and with unrivalled views of the Llangollen Canal adjacent to top of Grindley Brook Wharf triple lock stair case, access is via its own drive on to the main A41 Chester road, The site run by Kevin and Tom run one of the most desirable locations in the region. The site is well managed and maintained and has a warm and friendly feel to the place with both Kev and tom making you feel welcome.
The site sit alongside one of the Canals & Rivers trust prestige waterways in a quiet peaceful location and offers those looking for peace and quiet watch stunning sunsets or Dark Skys especially those wanting the opportunity to Star Gaze with its views towards the Hills of Minera which sit above the town of Llangollen and the Mountains of North Wales.
The Ellesmere canal, known to most as the Llangollen canal, passes right through the village of Grindley Brook, climbing as it passes through six locks, set amongst the rural surroundings borders of Cheshire and Shropshire countryside, as it passes under the A41 it moves into the infamous Grindley Brook wharf three chamber staircase lock. The canal locks attract visitors by canal boat car and foot as it passes alongside the 34miles/55km Sandstone Trail/Cheshire Way a ridge line trail that passes through the Iron Age Hill Fort of Bickerton.
Grindley Brook Wharf Campsite (GBWC) is a CL SITE consisting of 5 pitches all of which have electric hook-up and water point... Pitches cost £25 per night as of the March 2025, based on 2 adults and 2 pets and 1 other vehicle. There is an Additional charge of £5 for each of the following; Adult Pet and 2nd vehicle.

The GBWC consists of 3 parts, a CL site, Plus a seasonal site and moorings areas alongside the canal the later two are PRIVATE and access is by invitation only…
The site has recently undergone redevelopment and upgraded access to pitches and facilities…. A new ELSAN POINT, WASHING UP AREA, SHOWER & TOILETs have also be updated to meet todays needs… There is is also a RECYCLING POINT and DOG Waste disposal bin.

In the immediate area all the travellers essential facilities are within a very short walk, nearby the A41 road bridge are both a post box and telephone kiosk.
The Horse & Jockey pub is situated near the bottom of the locks, opposite D.A. Roberts garage and is well equipped to quench any travelers thirst or fill any hunger gap. Opposite the Horse and Jockey, is a Petrol station with a convenience shop for all your essentials.
The Lock side Cafe/Coffee Shop provides internet access and laundry, plus the gardens and the area adjacent to the canal all within walking distance of the campsite on the other side of the canal...
Whitchurch is a one mile walk from the A41 Grindley Brook bridge in a south east direction. Whitchurch has recently restored part of the canal arm that used to go right to the heart of the town. You can find the arm on the left just past bridge 31 as you travel south on the canal. From here the walk into Whitchurch is only about half a mile.
Whitchurch has been a market town since Roman times (market day is Friday) and has a large selection of pubs, hotels, restaurants, shops and services Other attractions:

IF approaching from Chester via the A41 the entrance is via a narrow lane on the left hand side… So for ease of access please proceed up to the roundabout and return back along the A41… The turn is the second turning on the right past GRINDLEY BROOK HOUSE…. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 1300 (1pm) this to allow those leaving to be off site before the arrival of newcomers due to the access and the narrow lane entrance…
