Description
Pitches: 440
Opening Dates next year: 15/03/2025 to 31/10/2025
This campsite lies on the shore of Llyn Gwynant lake and beside the Afon Glaslyn river in Nantgwynant - the most beautiful valley in Wales. This is the very heart of Snowdonia.
The mountains are just a walk away so you can tackle the summit of Snowdon or other scenic routes leaving your car behind. Activities such as paddling, sailing, climbing and coasteering are also available directly from the site. Bring your own boats (no charge - but no power boats) or else you can hire our single or double kayaks or Canadian canoes.
Or simply enjoy natural beauty and quiet and relax by your own camp fire. No radios are allowed, recycling is expected and respect for the land and for others is essential. The campsite has a large toilet block, with showers and hot water provided and a washing up area and cooking area (with microwaves and water boiler). Additional toilet facilities are opened during peak season.
Fees for 2022 start at £12 per adult per night, £6 per child aged 5 to 15. The adult fee increases to £14 (£7 per child) for school holidays and £15 (£7.50 per child) for the August and Whitsun bank holidays. There is a £1 per night discount on the adult rate for stays of 5 days or more. Bags of firewood are £6 and firepits are free. There is no charge for hot showers.
On weekends and school holidays there are two food outlets on site, along with a bar. There is no mobile phone coverage within 5 miles of the site, and there is only limited Wi-Fi on site in certain areas.
Nearby Attractions
Walk up Snowdon directly from the site either south (on the A498) to the Watkin path from Nantgwynant, or north (on the A498) to Pen-y-Pass for the PYG or Miners tracks. Many more wonderful mountain walks are nearby - ask our wardens.
The picturesque village of Beddgelert is a 10 minute drive (5 miles) from the site, Llanberis is 20 minutes and Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Betws-y-Coed are 30 minutes away.
There is great rock climbing near the site, including the famous Lockwoods Chimney - one of the first documented climbs in Snowdonia.

Owner Directions
Situated on the A498, 5 miles north of Beddgelert, or coming from the A5 turn south at Capel Curig then pass through Pen-y-Gwyrd and proceed down the valley for 2 miles. Note that the turn off from the main road is a sharp right-hand turn and it may be easier to proceed a further 200m to the side of the lake and turn there, driving back up to the entrance. If you use a SatNav it will most likely send you to the wrong end of the lake - about a mile out.
