Nearby Attractions
Beinn Nibheis (Ben Nevis) Ben Nevis is Britains highest mountain. Fondly called Ben by the locals, it towers 1,344 metres (4,408 feet) above the town of Fort William. `The mountain with its head in the clouds` or `Mountain of Heaven` (translated from the Gaelic), was first climbed in 1771. The Jacobite Steam train ( Fort William )is regarded as one of the Great Railway Journeys of the World, mainly due to the stunning scenery you travel through. The 84 mile round trip on the Jacobite will take you past Britains highest mountain, deepest loch and on to Mallaig, the UKs most westerly station. The train stops en-route at Glen Finnan, giving you time to strech your legs, take photographs, visit the Museum in the stations buildings and visit the Glen Finnan monument.
