A beautiful location with fantastic walks and lots of wildlife right from the site.
Unfortunately the facilities were lacking and looked like it was the family bathroom or in use by the permanent residents. We chose not to use the shower as it seemingly had private shower gels and a razor in it.
Roger and Wendy were lovely and personable.
If you're totally self sufficient then fully recommended.

We have just returned from 3 Weeks staying at Sweet Meadows Camping at Clifford Bridge on the East Dartmoor.
What a wonderful find, very quiet, peaceful, plenty of room to spread the camp and only £16.50 per night for 2 of us and dog.
Roger and Wendy are so caring, and friendly, as are the 3 ponies in the paddock.
Highly recommend the site if you’d like to camp a bit on the wild side, and close to all attractions on Dartmoor

I enquired using the form on here and got a swift reply saying they had availability and the cost which was £16. 50 for two adults, one dog, the campervan on a choice of pitches. However upon arrival we were charged £15 for the night as it was out of season.
They could do with putting a new sign up as we drove past it first time and the roads are quite narrow when it comes to turning around.
Upon arrival I met the owner who was lovely and walked us around the site and showed us the available spots to pitch. The meadows looked nice, with great views but as it was December it was too wet for the campervan, so we opted for the secluded pitch with it's own shelter, rope swing, seats and firepit.
The pitches are all quite close to the main house which houses the toilet, shower and fresh water. The toilet and shower are in one room, and are old, but they work. We struggled to get hot water from the shower, but it was late in the day when we showered, so maybe it had all run out.
Walking from the site is great, you have to do a short bit on the road before joining the footpaths and woods and you can take you for miles in all directions. As it was late in the day, we did not walk as much as we would have liked, but I would not want to be out there after dark and lost!
The area is so dark, so at night we were treated to an amazing night sky with many stars and a few shooting ones too.
We did not venture out into the area much as we were using it as a stopover, but there was a village 10 minutes away, and Exeter was only 20 minutes. But this is on the edge of Dartmoor, so you have all the delights of the moors on your doorstep.
There was very limited phone reception with no EE or GiffGaff service, but we got a bit of Three reception, enough to stay in touch with home.
This is a quirky site with lots of weird and wonderful spots and things to see and I would stay again.

Thought I would add a more recent review but think its gonna sound pretty similar to others.
Fantastic location, simple site with lots of room in paddocks or some woodland camping for a few smaller tents.
Campfires.
Tree house etc for kids, great walks close.
Warm welcome from Roger.
If you're looking for modern, don't bother.
Unfortunately this is reflected in the bathroom facility.
Only 1 toilet with a shower and sink.
Dated and needs a large slap of (regular ) TLC.
Doable but when there's 10 other families using :-L.
We had a small toilet in our van.
Saying that we had a great time with friends and family, dog / kids well happy.
Would still come back but would rave about it if toilets etc improved ( but maybe that's what makes it special / quiet though )
8/10

A camp site with a difference and not all as good as previous reviews state. Single mucky toilet and shower. Sloping horse pooh ridden fields. Electric hook ups that leave a little to be desired.
The good points, Tranquil setting. Great location for extended travel. Lost in time. Use of camp fires. Eccentric and friendly owner, but we wouldn't go again.

Very rustic, camping in someones back garden or their paddock. Toilet facilities are shared with the house on a 'Jack and Jill' system, adequate when I was there.
Owners very friendly, if a little eccentric, but a nice setting. Felt like camping in the wilds, all sorts of tweets and twitterings.
Campfires allowed, but bring your own wood.
Some good walks along the River Teign, down to Dunsford and up to Castle Drogo.
Beware very narrow lanes with few passing places.
However, 2 wonderful nights in the middle of nowhere!

I stayed at Sweet Meadows for a couple of nights in July. It's in a delightful setting not far from the Teign, with miles of riverside and woodland walks nearby.
There are a few options for camping: the garden, a small field behind the house and a larger paddock beyond that. We opted for the garden which was sheltered and secluded.
The facilities are on the basic side (a toilet and shower attached to the owner's house) but perfectly adequate for the size of the site, and totally in keeping with its remote setting.
There are lots of narrow lanes leading from the site to nearby Drewsteignton, Dunsford, Chagford and Moretonhampstead, so be prepared to reverse!
I'd definitely go back.

From reading other reviews and after staying there for two nights with the family in June 2012, whether you will enjoy your stay or not depends on what you want from a campsite.
The facilities are basic and cannot cope with more than 8 or so tents (1 toilet, 1 shower, 1 sink). However, if you want to stay in the back garden of a lovely, friendly, local couple and enjoy the delights of the area then this is for you.
Gorgeous river walks just down the road. During our short walk in the late afternoon a family of deer crossed across the path perhaps 50 yards in front of us - breathtaking. The owners are very relaxed and our boys loved the campfires we had every night as well as a short ride on the horses.
Lovely pubs to eat in or have a drink within a 15 minute drive.
Without a doubt, we will be back again soon.

People should know that this isn't really maintained as a campsite in the usual sense of the word. It's someone's back garden and spare loo that they make available to campers.
It has a rather run-down feel and one gets the impression that improvements are highly unlikely in the near future - the owners are not in the first flush of youth! On arrival we were unable to make contact for over half an hour even though we shouted our heads off, yet there was someone in the house all the time.
The single toilet is shared with the occupants of the house via a double entrance which was confusing. There is only hot water (and thus shower) at certain times of day. Prices have increased substantially for 2012 and do not, I feel, reflect the service provided.
All that said, the owners were very welcoming (once they heard us!) and helped generously with various items. The location is superbly remote with fantastically dark skies, so great for star gazing if you get a clear night.
The Teign valley is a grand area for walking, and Dunsford has a good pub and occasionally a great tea shop.

We first visited Sweet Meadows in 2010 for a week or so, and returned in 2011 for three weeks.
It is extremely isolated and requires good map-reading or GPS to get to - and even with GPS make sure you are certain the address you're using is the right one! Just the post code can put you several hundred metres and turns away.
It is quiet, the owners are wonderfully English and welcoming, and if there are seven other groups staying that counts as very busy. The 'facilities' are pretty basic; one loo and a shower.
But it is really nice to be somewhere so back-to-basics; you're camping in a back garden, can have campfires - it's as far from the big campsites with row after row of tent as could be.
Electricity is available if you're close enough to the house. There are about three pitches in the garden, another three or so on the tennis court, with others available in the paddocks.
The area is outstandingly beautiful, most people only stay a few days but often wish they could stay longer (thus our extended return visit).
Great for getting away from it all, families or couples that like the great outdoors, not so good if a purpose-built shower block and on-site shop are essentials for you (it's a drive or an hours walk to get anywhere).
