We have used this site before in off season. This time booked for one night and stayed 5.

The weather was great and we made use of the lovely green meadow immediately in front of our pitch for the dog walks and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The village only has one bar but we cycled a few miles to the next town which had supermarkets and a cafe.

The owners are very friendly and it is a good place to relax for a few days.

We have stayed at this site several times.

It’s a good stop off but could be more if you want to use the nearby Lakes in summer.

The facilities are clean and warm and the owners always give a warm welcome.

Yes there are statics/ lodge but it still has a nice feel about the place.

Will be using again.

We used this site as a stop over both on our way down to the south of France from Calais, and then again back up, staying for one night each time. Travel time is about 4. 5hrs from Calais including a stop (200 miles).

We checked with the site for the best access, as Google indicated we should go via the D311. 4; a quick check showed what appears to be a very narrow tunnel on that road. Site staff said the best access is via the D152; when travelling south this requires you to go past the D152 on the N12 and then do an about turn at the junction with the D828. Sounds complicated, but is very simple and access is then easy-peasy!

Entry to the site is a little tight - it's a narrow gate in, then an immediate turn to the right towards the site proper. We tow a 7. 3m van and it was easy enough with a bit of extra care to check as we maneuvered.

The nice lady at reception spoke very good English, but was happy to converse in our very poor French!

We were directed to pitches right at the back of the site, and were invited to take our pick. Now my first reaction whilst driving through was 'Ye Gods, I don't like this'; I couldn't see us stopping there on the way back.

The front part of the site is mainly temporary structures and live-in caravans, which has the appearance of a bit of a shanty town. The facilities block is right at the front of the site, so you have to walk back through the site to get to it (more on that later).

Touring pitches are right at the back of the site, but this does mean you are under or near to some rather large trees providing plenty of very welcome shade.

On the way down we picked one of two 'full length' gravel pitches which allow you to remain hitched up overnight; these were dead level. They are, unfortunately, the furthest away from the facility block so on the way back up we picked a standard grass pitch which was much closer to the block (and still level)!

Electric was by way of a French two-pin plug (lucky we took our adapter). Water taps are spread around the site, not easy to find and with very low pressure; this obviously isn't an issue if you're not putting any water on.

The facilities are more 'exhausted' than 'tired'. Having stopped on the way south I was not impressed (we have stayed in a number of municipals so we have some levels to gauge it against). However, we actually took a walk round the site on our second stop and I realised I was probably being a bit harsh.

Yes, the facilities are old and in need of replacement (a number of 'squat' toilets as well as the UK style loo pan - take your own loo roll), but they are clean and warm, with plenty of hot water in the showers. There doesn't seem to be a distinction between male & female, but that's not really an issue.

The touring part of the site was jam packed on our return stop, so it can't be that bad! Our two kids (daughter, 21yrs and son, 24yrs) had flown out to join us in France and travelled back with us; they both thought we had been a bit harsh with our description of the site to them, and were quite happy spending a night there (and they are both particularly picky about facility blocks etc. )

We didn't go off the site so I'm afraid I can't tell you what's nearby, but it's located a good way from anything else so is extremely dark and quiet at night - lovely!

So despite my initial reservations (perhaps caused by being a little tired and grumpy due in no small part to French Border Controls), this is actually a fairly decent site for a stop-over if travelling south/north on the A16/A28/N154 route.

We will very likely use it next time we're going that way.

Handy site for first stop after Calais, not to far off main route.

Go to the back of the site for pitches with grass area in front of pitch. Quiet site.

Lovely lady on reception and she spoke good English.

Will most likely stop here on our way back too.

Very pleasant welcome, very friendly couple, pitched easily,

The site has residents, who seemed very friendly,

As an overnight stop very easy to access via the N154,

Toilet blocks are a bit tired, but then the site is situated in old France.

Ideal for fishermen

This site is great. The WiFi is free and very good. The showers are in an excellent heated block. Staff are exceptionally friendly.

The pitch was a little muddy having had rain sometime previously, but it was not a problem.

The electric supply is a full 18amps!

There is a great dog walk through fields and around the lake.

I will definitely stay at this site again

Very handy winter stopover en-route south (big plus), reasonable access to & from main route. Compact village and fairly tight access into and onto main site (bit negative but managed). Barrier access. Facilities were fine for us overnighting. Pleasant owners. Mainly seasonals & full timers on site.

Suggest do check details and opening times before winter visiting - we rang a couple of hours prior to arrival en-route.

Stayed in February, extremely helpful staff, English spoken, only stopped 1 night, but ideal for a stopover, basic amenities but very clean, close to N154, small cafe bar across the road. We arrived late and in a snow blizzard staff came out and asked if they could assist, would definitely use again

We stayed at this little campsite with a tent for an overnight stop on our way further south. The campsite is well located to reach from an 11am Dover to Calais to ferry and straightforward to find.

I found the owner to be friendly and helpful and he speaks a reasonable amount of English. He directed me towards the rear of the campsite which is open to choose your own pitch. We didn’t have an electric hook up so I can’t comment on that. It is a good, flat area but the grass was quite long which wasn’t very helpful since we arrived in pouring rain and the kids quickly got soaked up to their knees! There is a little play area which the kids enjoyed (hence the rapid soaking!).

The wash block was in the process of being overhauled so only one half was open, which meant that the facilities were temporarily communal. They had clearly been already overhauled and were pleasant, modern and clean with individual wash cubicles and decent showers. No toilet paper though. Our location towards the rear of the campsite was as far from the wash block as possible, but it was still only a short walk and the site is adequately lit at night.

The campsite is very quiet. The only other occupants seemed to be resident. There is no bar etc, but a few drinks are available in reception and bread can be ordered for the morning but unfortunately for those making an early start it is not available until 10. 30am. There is a useful room with sofas and a dining table with a free to use microwave. There appears to be very little in the village, so you do need to come prepared to arrange your own food and drink. The large town of Dreux is about 10 minutes drive away.

In summary, as a one night stop I would use this campsite again. It has decent, clean facilities and conveniently located. It wouldn’t suit me with a young family for a longer period since there is nothing to entertain us without getting in the car.

Stopped over on the way back from South. New owners are friendly and very helpful but the reception seems seldom to be manned in September. The site has many very old scruffy units which look like they are permanently occupied. The facilities are not wonderful for the 18 Euros we paid. This will be a great site if the new owners can get rid of the old squalid live in residents and tidy the whole place up.
