Date of Visit: July 2024 Unit:  Touring Caravan
Nights stayed: 4 Travelling as:  Family with young children
Reviewer: Kerrison 1 review from this member

My family and I have been Caravaning & Camping for over 20+ years. Touring the UK and Europe. I have never ever stayed anywhere like Billing Aquadrome nor will I ever, ever again!

Here is my experience of our brief stay at the Aquadrome.

In July 2024 my husband and youngest son arrived at the Aquadrome for a four nights break in our touring caravan along with our little dog. We were greeted by reception and handed paperwork relating to our stay (nothing unusual). Amongst the paperwork was a list of Rules & Regulations set out by the Park.

These rules stated the following:-

• All tourers are to face the road when pitching.

• No Fires/Fire Pits (in captials and red) are allowed at any time.

• Dogs must (bold and underlined) be kept on a lead at all times.

• Speed limit is 5MPH (in red) at all times when travelling around the park.

• Ensure All Noise Is Reduced From (capitals) 11PM – 7AM.

• All Generators/Music Must Be (capitals) turned off from 11:00PM (bold and underlined).

• Vehicles are not permitted to travel around the Camping and Touring grounds after 11:00pm.

Any Issues or Queries Please Contact 24/7 Security on 07894194534.

Rules are pretty standard on caravan/campsites in our experience and we had no issues with the strict measures that seemed to be in place here.

However we soon realised that these rules ONLY applied to us and the other genuine holiday makers on the site!

As we pitched our caravan on the Camping and Touring field within the clearly marked designated area and facing the road (as stated in the rules) we noticed there were several groups of large caravans all huddled together at various 90 degree angles!

Amongst these groups were numerous trucks and working vehicles containing various work equipment and tools. These vehicles would often disappear during the day as the men went off to work leaving the women behind to continually shout across the park and wash the caravans, cloths and bedding. These were then hung around the area!

The children were left to their own devices. Some entertaining themselves by doing donuts in a Silver Kia Sorento on any available grassed area. Shouting across the field at one another and dropping litter along the way was also a favourite as was the pretend bare knuckle boxing matches amongst the boys!

The dogs freely roamed and were often observed defecating the area with no one cleaning up behind them at any point.

These incidents were reported to Security and the Site Management Team (Martin, Keeley & Gordon) on the telephone and in person. Even the open fires, loud music and unruly behaviour were allowed to continue. Head of Security even stated “It’s their holiday too!”

Nothing was ever challenged, stopped, controlled or managed by security or management.

The poor behaviour only escalated with a drunken domestic at 2am!

Later a larger group arrived of 20-30 vehicles and they soon dominated the area with their caravans, trucks, vehicles and other paraphernalia creating a circle of intimidation to nearby holiday makers and their families with their loud, boisterous and unruly presence. Spitting, swearing, driving at high speed, loose dogs, parking too closely to other caravans and tents etc were once again brought to the attention of security in the hope that they would deal with the matter quickly. Security and management once again failed to attend and remained incognito!

As the evening came things only got worse when two vehicles containing men from another part of the site roared up to this group (around midnight) with their music blasting out and lights on full beam. The groups proceeded to shout verbal threats towards each other (there appeared to be unresolved issues between them). As their aggressive behaviour and threats to each other escalated it caused nothing but fear and concerns for our safety and others.

A minimum of SEVEN distressing phone calls were made to Security who unbelievably still did not attend the scene!

Ironically the female security guard chastised me for swearing when I said, “You need to get the f**k down here before someone is stabbed or shot!” This was only said through exasperation, frustration and fear as still no one was coming to deal with the violence that was erupting on their ‘Family holiday park’!

In total disbelief we rang 999. The control room assured us that Police officers were attending and were actually at the park. However this was not the case NO ONE came to our area. We were alone in our caravan as things kicked off around us!

The matter only came to an end when one of them drove their car at high speed into the outside communal tap! The force of impact was so severe that it snapped the metal structure in two causing it to come clean off. A fountain of water then flooded the area until the maintenance team attended the next day!

The only time we saw the utterly incompetent Security Guards was when they drove past in their inconspicuous, non-confrontational van to see the damage caused as the maintenance men attempted to repair the water fountain that had now appeared by our caravan!

Not once did they get out of their car to check if we and other families were ok or to investigate.

A young couple and their two children were in a tent near the tap when the collision happened and spent the whole night “petrified”!

We also met a disabled man who found his small pod (already in situ) surrounded by the large group when he return. Despite his pleads to the traveller group to move a truck that was in the way of him moving his pod to another area no one did so and they all denied knowing whose tuck it was! He was therefore unable to relocate and in the thick of it all!

The management team or security never came to see any of us!

However we were all offered a refund as compensation and that is only when we went to their office. What a joke! We and others left the site that morning.

As for Northamptonshire Police, I feel deeply shocked, saddened and frustrated that they failed to attend.

The new owners have invested millions into improving the site and its amenities but the people they are allowing on and without enforcing the rules will only give the place a bad reputation and unfortunately a financial loss.

I will never return to Billing Aquadrome and I would definitely NOT recommend it to anyone!

OMG Booked this site August bank holiday weekend, have never stopped on a site as bad as this. On arrival at touring fields it was likened to a refuge camp. We drove around for 15 mins trying to find a suitable pitch. People just pitching anywhere and everywhere, no designated pitch just muddy fields with electric hookup.

The toilets are the worst I have witnessed having no water to flush, no water to shower, no soap in the dispensers and faeces smeared over the walls. It made us feel sick. Tried to use the 'elsan' point but had to walk away heaving.

Had to lock our bikes and cadac away in the awning for fear of them being stolen.

The Venue was very nice and clean and seemed to keep the riff raff away, but the other 'sports bar' was a place for drunken people from late afternoon onwards.

We managed to stay for 2 nights instead of our planned 3 !

This site would suit people having spent £49.99 on a tent from B&M and spend all their time getting drunk. Wouldn't dream of returning and would advise any serious caravanner to give this site a wide berth ! AWFUL !

No 6m fire distance in place. No clearly defined pitches.

Absolutely no COVID-19 restrictions in place. Did not feel safe all weekend. It looked like a festival site and sounded like it every evening.

Pack them in and take the money

Toilet and Shower Facilities Old and dated and dirty

Billing cater for festivals which is not advertised, the festival attendees also use the toilet facilities, when we were there the kids had put mud all in the toilets and there was no toilet paper.

We left 2 days early due to the general hygiene, tried to contact Billing but they have not responded.

Free for all where you pitched your tent. Tents packed in like sardines. Showers and toilets filthy.

Drunk people shouting at 2am enough for security to be called.

Kids running everywhere swearing and shouting with parents unable to control them.

Will not be returning

Had heard awful things (and am fairly local so hear plenty) but risked a night there midweek. It was fairly quiet, pitched on river road which is right on the river bank with a nice view of the water and only two other tents in sight, and the camp was calm and peaceful.

Looking a bit scruffy and bins overflowing, but a basically nice place to be and you're sent by the front desk to pitch pretty much wherever you like.

The toilet blocks were old, shabby and stained, but were clean and perfectly usable, and the whole place is dog friendly. However £31 a night for a tent is steep unless you have kids who are going to enjoy the pool and play centres etc.

The big issues such as filthy loos, antisocial behaviour and noise, seem to be on the weekends and big events when the site is busy. However 3 police cars were on site the evening we were there, and escorted someone off site.

Somewhere to keep a close eye on your dog and be a bit careful, and go at quiet times looking for quieter spots.

Campsite was fab, quite spacious, and the toilet/shower areas were very clean.

We travelled as a family. The swimming pool was clean and the kids enjoyed.

There was lots of entertainment for the kids and the fair was reasonably priced.

Would stay again.

This site is no doubt fantastic for kids in the season with a fairground, swimming pool, lakes, karting, miniature railway, plenty of tarmac roads for biking and loads of grass areas but when we arrived the season had finished and it was mostly closed up.

We drew up at the barrier where security had our details as we pre-booked a super pitch and they directed us to the seasonal area, then suggested we may like to pitch in another area nearer the gates - so no specific pitch had been allocated!

We set off to explore the options, but finding a hard standing pitch for a 35 ft RV was not easy. The seasonal pitches were all full so we looked at the touring area. Most of the pitches in EFGH where there had been hard standing were grassed over, so it was difficult to identify the outline and length.

We eventually off-roaded with our 7. 5 ton - not a happy situation- and settled in. There was an well stocked mini market on site.

There was no charge for electric hookUp but the water taps turned out to be a shared facility on the side of the roadways. The shower block was clean but quite dated, we found a much more pleasant one called Gingers.

On leaving we found the RV dump point was under renovation so it was a good thing we weren’t desperate! The pool was a great hit, but closed at 4 pm and there was a lovely restaurant open till 6 on the site.

There is a pub close by and a takeaway just outside the gates serving fish and chips and pizza.

Best described as a little run down, we warmed to it over our stay so we will be back.
