Visit both sites, right in the heart of the New Forest, stunning views and wildlife - must see the glow worms.

The manager, Mark and his team could not do enough to help, always happy to answer questions and give advice, even helped with putting up the new awning.

The team who work there are very keen to keep the forest clean and tidy, thus ensuring when you visit it, both sites are in top condition - this can not be easy but some how they do a very good of managing the site to ensure this.

Ocknell/Longbeech is Situated at Stoney Cross - as the name suggests the ground can be quite hard, so you will need rock pegs for tents/awning. These are avilabe from the office and Mark and the team can and will offer advice and guidance on the best pitches to try and over come this.

No kids playground on site, but when you are the heart the New Forest, who needs its! Kids kept busy building dens in the woods, being shown the wildlife by Mark and his team.

Heard the occasional moans and groan from a couple of a RV owners/seasonals, but as they don't own the site nor the New Forest, they must expect others to use it!

Overall we had a cracking time and will be going back.

Peace, quiet, very well distanced, simple, no frills, wildlife varied, controlled dogs.

Don’t really want to recommend Longbeech as it might encourage an influx of visitors and destroy the ambiance

I’ve just returned from a 4-night stay and have to say that the reviews here do not do the site justice. The scenery from our pitch was pretty breath taking.

The site is gorgeous with beautiful forest walks seconds from any pitch. It’s located in the most gorgeous scenery with cows, horses, donkeys and even deer wondering around, although we were not lucky enough to see them.

The staff are super friendly, the site is really well run and I found a more laid back set of campers, than say the Hollands Wood site. This part of the New Forest is very relaxing. The local shop in Bramshaw is very friendly with a great range of local goods, including meats and cheeses.

Anyone camping here will need to bring rock pegs as the ground is very stoney and normal pegs will be destroyed. Do not ignore this advice.

Lovely site at longbeech with nice views of the wood wherever you go and seems like 50 square metres on every pitch as not very busy. Very quiet site with deers and ponies and other wildlife roaming if you can find a level pitch. Our family loved this site and are going back.

Very basic facilities (water taps & toilet disposal only) and plenty of bins

If you like the country this is perfect

If you want bike hire, it is not through ocknell reception but through local shops in nearby towns

I stayed here on a sunny day in April. Heaven! there were only 6 other units on site, so it was like I was alone camping in the woods.

My only complaint is the 'getting onto the site' procedure. You have to check in at Oknell campsite just down the road - no problem. But I was given a code to open the gate. Though it wasn't a code to open the gate! it was a code to a key safe, that holds a key to a padlock that is the quite fiddly to access. Once the gate is open, I drove through and then had to get out the van and reverse that procedure, ie; close the gate, lock the gate, and return the key to the safe. Not simple if you are on your own.

Having said that I did enjoy the peace and quiet.

Just spent a few days here with two Labradogs, what a great site. The staff were super and made me feel most welcome, which is important to me as a lone female camper. I met and had many interesting conversations with a broad selection of fellow campers too.

The site is open, airy and not at all boxed in, no formal pitches but plenty of organised space.

No showers but all other facilities were spotless and clean. Everything was managed so well, even the rubbish etc.

As a former horse rider I know the forest well and so cannot really comment on the more obvious attractions that others would like. But for walkers etc this would be a perfect base for an easy relaxing explore. Keep to the paths in the Forest if not familiar with bogs etc and it's fine. Don't be tempted to follow animal tracks.

But a great relaxed site certainly.

Came here for a spur of the moment break. Expecting it to be really busy for the school holidays, but was pleasantly surprised how quiet it was. Had a very cheerful greeting from the wardens. Invited to choose our own pitch.

We chose to go to the section where we had to have our own chemical toilet. Having said that the campsite toilets were very clean when we used them, and the hot water for washing up was very hot. We spent a relaxing few days, enjoying watching the ponies, deer and cattle just roaming around.

Can't wait to come back again

We have used this site happily for years but were very disappointed this year at the huge hike in prices and the restrictions on where to camp.

We are quite happy to accept the wash block but feel the price is now extortionate for what you get.

For another £1.50/night each in Dorset we got lovely showers etc. Etc.

I think Forest Holidays is making a big mistake.

This is a lovely area of the New Forest with many good pubs around - particularly the Royal Oak at Fritham which only does food at lunch time but is definitely worth a visit.

Also recommended for value is the pub at Nomansland.

Good cycling and walking in the area and not as commercialised as the area south of the forest.

You can hardly hear the nearby road so that did not bother us at all. The site was full but felt half empty compared to other Forest Holiday sites in the new forest. There are no showers but still a good block to use the loo, wash, and also wash up pots and plates. And you are in the countryside with wild roaming horses, cow and lots of rabbits.

This site is around a third cheaper than the other Forest Holidays local sites due to its location (no good local shops for supplies) and a lack of showers but it is exactly right for us so we will be back and will save more money.

Also make sure you go to The Royal Oak in nearby Fritham, the beers and pork pies are wonderful. If you are a family maybe Hollands Wood and Ashurst are for you but for a couple in a tent this site was perfect.

The welcome and checking-in was warm, friendly and quick so no complaints there.

I did heed other peoples advice and took along some rock pegs, the ground is pretty solid in places so they're a must for anybody visiting.

The site itself was ok. It's nicely separated into different areas by natural foliage boundaries so I never felt overlooked and had privacy. The ground was flat, clean and well maintained.

The toilet and washbasin block felt a bit run down, but who cares - it's not like I'm sleeping or eating in them. As for other facilities, there is a shop on-site selling the bits and pieces you may have forgotten, although 70p for a pint of milk is a bit of a rip off. The gate to the site is locked between 10:30pm-7am.

As a few other reviewers have said, you can hear the A31 lightly droning along in the late evening and throughout the night. It's not really imposing (some may find it reassuring and relaxing) but loud enough to notice it. The subsequent light pollution also limits those who enjoy a complete blanket of stars.

Clientèle was mixed - older people, young families, groups of teenagers, solo campers and everybody seemed to adhere to the rules (with the exception of the group of young teens, but we were all young once and it's quite easy to forget how far your voice can travel in a tent).

Would certainly use it again, although probably not in peak season when it's likely to be too busy to fully relax and enjoy.
