I have just spent seven days at this site with my three dogs and had a lovely week. This was my second visit to north lakes caravan and camping park. We camped in an area called the paddock which is very peaceful and the views of the mountains is wonderful. Dogs are most welcome at this campsite and there is no charge for them. There are lovely walks for them. And they had a great time. The toilets and showers are immaculate, there is a bar and games room which is very nice, I found the site owners to be very nice and helpful. If you like fishing there is fishing lake. If you are looking for a nice quite and peaceful holiday I can personally recommend this site. My dogs and I are looking forward to coming back next year.

We were a bit apprehensive about this site due to poor reviews.
However, we were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived there for a 7 night break, including the Jubilee weekend.
The park is primarily static caravans, but the way that they are situated among the many trees, they are barely noticeable.
When you enter the site you drive past hard standing pitches on either side of the good roadway.
The hard standings are a modest size, but there are large grassed areas between each pitch.
These first pitches do not have much of an outlook.
As you drive further down through the site, it opens up to lovely, open country views.
There is a large duck pond, with an island, towards the bottom of the site.
This is a really nice open area, with spacious pitches, and a wonderful outlook especially good for the sunsets.
For those not requiring a hookup, and especially tents, there are a lot of really good areas for those seeking tranquillity or for those in family groups.
All of the grassed areas were very well-maintained, with plenty of electric hook-ups and conveniently placed water points.
The biggest surprise was the standard of the toilet/shower block. As you approach the building it doesn't fill you with confidence, but they were immaculate inside - no sign of any cobwebs at all!
The toilet cubicles were large, with their own wash basin, and plenty of hot water. The shower cubicles were also enormous.
The utility block included a laundry, but I didn't note the prices.
The site was very busy over the whole bank holiday period, with lots of families in tents, so the facilities were well used. They were kept spotless the whole period of our visit. There is no soap or hand driers provided, but otherwise, great facilities.
We didn't use the clubhouse on site, but from the outside, it looked well kept.
The many (very well behaved) children on site had a great time riding their bikes on the long, good roadways. It is a very good safe site for children. There is fencing around the duck pond to protect children, and ducks, from harm.
Site recommended for those who enjoy peace and tranquillity. Good TV signal too!

Well, we drove in and were met by the lady owner who was booking in another guest. Very basic site, ok shower facilities, bit cobwebby !
The clubhouse is hilarious, very outdated, but we are camping, we don't want posh, but a nice drink would help, don't be surprised if you don't get one !
However, we enjoyed our stay and booked an extra 2 nights, staying 4 in total. The ground is very hard don't forget your mallet! the crows are annoying as well but the pluses far outweigh.
The remoteness of this site, we loved the peace and quiet the secluded location, the wildlife the ponds!
the kite flying field the trickling stream at the back of our tent, if you like basic camping with not many kids, We have a 4 year old, she loved it, would go back, Value For Money.

Not the best Park my family and I have been to, but definitely not the worst.
A pleasant surprise to see a section of the potholed road has been repaired. I like the park because of the Old dated feel of the place, its natural, rural not too commercial, we have been a long time ago and I must admit things have not changed much and our family don't mind that because the prices are not too high either.
We don't really use the games room and bar that often, but it is cosy and yes olde worlde. We hope the owners don't ever make it to posh and commercialised in the future.
The wild life is amazing around the park and Misty Tarn. They have made a new pond at the bottom of the park to accommodate new Lodges for sale, I am looking forward to this as I enjoy fishing
My family and I will be back at the end of the year. Keep modernising the park but not too much. Still no shop on the park, but no problem to us, good excuse for a drive out.

The good points - Well kept mowed level grassed area excellent for tents, quiet, good views spaced out(which all make for good hols). As per other reviewers facilities are adequate but have seen better days. Rather remote from local facilities/ walking areas. There was a bar and games room with pool tables but opened rather late in evening, no shop on site.

Arrived at campsite lunchtime on bank holiday Sunday (we had been booked for a few weeks and had paid a twenty pound deposit) we were surprised by how quiet it was. There was a sign in the office window saying please knock at bungalow - no one answered so we sat outside and waited after half an hour decided to look round site to find someone. We drove through a gang of men washing feet under water taps (thought no single sex groups allowed) and ended up near the bar and toilet blocks walked up extremely steep slope and looked through windows into a run down games room wasn't impressed but didn't come for games room and bar.
We then used the toilet facilities and looked at showers they were extremely basic (which is fine) and filthy (which is not). You also had to pay for the privilege of using them. We still however thought we would put up with it as we didn't need to shower when staying for two days, returned to bungalow and waited another half hour. We decided instead of waiting we would go see if we could find another site (we couldn't just pitch our tent because it was so quiet didn't know where tent area was)
We finally managed to get through to owner about three hours later the lady told my husband she had been with the gang of men removing them from the site. My husband told her of the problems and asked for our money refunding, but we didn't get a refund.

We stayed here and couldn't wait to get away. The pitch was level, the grass short, and the site is generally quiet, but the air of semi-dereliction is depressing. Even the bungalow where the owners purport to live looks half abandoned. Showering, shaving and washing up in nothing better than tepid water is not on, and the standard of hygiene and lack of toilet roll unacceptable. It seems to us that North Lakes was founded by someone with big ideas and a small wallet, and any investment was done years ago.

We spent 10 days at North Lakes Caravan & Camping Park. Myself, wife and children really enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful, quite and the views were out of this world. Not like some of the sites we've stayed on. The caravans were well spaced out so you are not looking on rows and rows of caravans.
We opened the curtains in a morning to see mountains, rabbits and an occassional deer. This is in our opinion a proper caravan camp site. No rowdy music, no open fires.
The toilets extremely clean and well maintained. The other campers on the site all seemed to be enjoying it.
the campsite was clean, tidy. The grass was well cut and we often saw the owners going round picking up litter which untidy campers had left, ensuring the site was always clean.
The site clubhouse was well stocked, friendly with no rowdy music. The games room for the children was separate from the bar but we could still see what the children were doing.
We found the owners to be friendly, helpful and very accommodating, so much so we are hoping to return for August Bank Holiday.

Not only has nothing changed since F. Harrison in 2003, Pete Farnell in 05 and Mods 79 in 06 visited the site, it is worse.
The web site painted such a marvellous picture of the place we failed to check out the comments on this site. Big mistake.
There was no one on reception on arrival we had to walk round the site to try and find the owner to book in.
Toilet blocks (2 not the 3 specified in the advertising literature) are still basic, unpainted render walls, no heating, the roof leaks in one and the boxes for feeding the shower units with 20p's are outside the cubicles. We were looking forward to having an evening drink but the clubhouse and bar were closed. We looked through the cracked glass window and were unimpressed with the interior which was reminiscent (not in a good way) of the 60's.
We were also looking forward to doing a bit of fishing so were disappointed to find the fishing lake and streams overgrown and choked with weed. The pile of logs which represents the childrens play area is overgrown and the weed suppressant liner which is visible in many places is ripped and the edges are raised up, a trip hazzard for any child who ventures into the space.
Whilst the touring area was mown the site is very untidy, there are piles of what we presumed were unfinished bonfires around the place. It isn't worth complaining, the owners best suggestion was that if we didn't like it we could have left and had we not travelled such a long way we certainly would have. The other comments show they have been having exactly the same complaints for years.
We made the best of it and enjoyed ourselves because the area is beautiful and our travelling companions were excellent company but this caravan site is on a downward slide.
The owners need to make a considerable investment to bring it up to a reasonable standard, they make no apologies for the deficiencies and are clearly unconcerned about the touring trade so its a no no and we would recommend avoidance.
