We chose this campsite due to good reviews - it has positives and might provide a better experience to caravan or campervan users.

Our experience in a tent included no instructions prior to arrival (as promised by email), operators were not contactable by phone and space to set up was limited (a welcome and face-to-face contact with advice would have made big difference),

Good presentation/cleanliness, the shower block is quite a distance from tents, they are clean but the shower produced a trickle of scalding or very cold water,

The road noise is incessant all through the night and unpleasant smells of sewage present.

Overall, disappointing.

A very pleasant and quiet adult only site.

Popular cafe and gift shop on site.

Close to lovely villages and only a 20 minutes bus journey into York city centre.

We picked this site for our first trip with our new camper van. A little unsure what to expect having read previous reviews. Happy to report that it was all good, my only minor gripe would be not having a nominated pitch.

As newbies we were a bit concerned that we would lose our pitch when we ventured off site to get some supplies (we left the end of our hook up cable sat in my husband’s boots to mark our spot!).

Bathrooms were pretty much spotless and seemed to be regularly cleaned. There were mops left outside with a polite request to mop up after having a shower - I mopped up my muddy boot prints after a loo visit! The bathrooms each contained a loo, sink & shower with hooks, a big mirror and each was heated.

Communication from the site was by email with instructions for arrival etc, along with the wifi code - signal was great. Didn’t see any staff while we were there but a contact number was provided if we had needed anything.

We had intended to walk into York but the lack of a footpath put us off, we ended up having a nosey round the Clifton Moor shops. There were a lot of spots taken by caravans which seemed to be unoccupied so a chilly night in February was very quiet.

There was some road noise but it wasn’t disturbing (maybe the tent site and CL site would think differently as they were nearer the road).

There’s a cafe on site that seems popular but we didn’t venture in - maybe next time!

Return visit to what was and still could be a lovely site but a few things now let it down. There are 4 shower/toilets rooms plus two toilets at the end. The toilets at the end are filthy, seats broken on both, not cleaned thoroughly and the radiators are not wiped either.

They desperately need an overhaul, grubby walls and floors, thick dust in corners. Did watch two women cleaning whilst waiting for my partner. You could see that they didn't really put much energy into giving them more than a quick once-over, very lacklustre.

No site barrier, was talking to another guest and they said this had been the same for a good while.

Wouldn't consider a seasonal here as insurance would be void if you have stated in your insurance that there's a barrier then it never gets repaired.

It's definitely gone downhill since we were here last year. I was told its been under new management, such a shame their priority doesn't seem to be hygiene and maintenance of the site.

Online booking, payment and emailed instructions worked well. There are touring, seasonal, glamping and camping (with or without electric) options. We had no direct interaction with any site staff though we were given an emergency contact number. The security barrier was broken and there is an unofficial footpath through the site to Wigginton village which also seems to act as a local dog walk route.

The tent area is very pretty with mature trees and a large wildlife pond. Thankfully it didn't rain but I suspect the ground will quickly waterlog in a downpour. No marked pitches: first come, first served for the best areas. Electric hook up worked well. C

Ars are parked on the gravel access track, a max of 30m from your tent. Expect background traffic noise from the York ring road. It is a long walk to the toilet block: strava measured it as a 500m round trip! Facilities good - clean and in good repair. We did not use the on site cafe but it seemed popular.

The site is adult only: as the saying goes "Hell is other people's children". However in this case the anti-social behaviour came from three older male teenagers/early twenties who turned up on Friday evening for an overnight camp.

There was much loud swearing and car antics prior to them calling a cab into York for the nightlife. They returned to site about 2am on Saturday morning. Around this time a police patrol car also arrived on site - we have no idea why - and stayed about 20 mins without apparently doing anything. Needless to say, it wasn't the best night's sleep I have ever had on a campsite but the following two nights were peaceful.

To summarize: we were looking for somewhere to camp close to York for a long weekend. This site ticked the box but we were both lucky with the weather and unlucky with our Friday evening "Inbetweeners" camping pals. I would not rush to return.

York itself is best reached by the park and ride buses.

Castle Howard: cheaper tickets are available to purchase after 2pm. This does give enough time to walk around most of the estate and gardens if you do not linger too long in their cafes or garden centre.

Stayed 2 nights and couldn't fault this campsite. Lovely and clean, friendly staff and very informative of local area.

Nice walk at the end of the campsite around a loop that takes you through two very picturesque villages and back to campsite (around 5 miles) bus stop right outside fir York ( number 40 bus) £7. 80 for 2 adult returns and bus every hour.

Shower block nice and clean with hot showers. Private toilet emptying facilities with sink and soap.

We used on site cafe for our breakfast and it's up there with the best we've had, lovely tasting and plentiful.

We would highly recommend this site, it was our first visit and definitely will not be our last, it has been put on our regular list of sites.

Most of the touring pitches are occupied by seasonals. We have stayed on this site numerous times.

It is self check in at reception and our information pack was pinned to the wall.

The site has 5 sections to it as you drive along from the road. Firstly a Yurt section, which had a wedding party on our first night, all quiet by 11pm, next is the 5 pitch certified location.

Then is the reception building which also contains a shower block. The Cafe is next and it has a great outdoor eating area and children's play area.

Then beyond the barrier is the Hide which is a fenced off area of about 6 pods. Then is the Touring pitch area and shower block. 2 lines of about 25 pitches.

Tent area at the bottom. At the end of the Touring pitches is a path that leads to a gate, which gives access to a dyke path and a nice woodland walk.

A bus stop is on the road outside the site. 15 minutes to the City centre.
