 Superb location, the Forest of Bowland is well worth a visit.
Very helpful and friendly, made to feel very welcome.
Not a busy site, one field; I was alone for 2 nights and even n the Friday there were only 3 other units.
No shower at site, just a single toilet and basin - camping as it used to be!
Pub in village half a mile away, another in Slaidburn (about 3 miles) where there is also a shop/PO.
No petrol stations in immediate area.
Excellent walking country, great place to stay.

We were lucky. The weather was magnificent. What views! This is a truly "basic" campsite but provided all we needed for a short stay. A trip to the toilet was a trip down memory lane. The cistern had a CHAIN to flush the bowl.
The owners were friendly and chatty. The field where we camped was all grass, and slightly sloping but lush. The cost was real value for money.
One small warning. The site is NOT labelled as you drive past the entrance, and your sat nav could well take you elsewhere. That's if you're lucky enough to have a mobile signal! The drive up to the farm is "interesting", especially pulling a caravan. Lol. Take care if your vehicle or van sits low. We had a close shave driving over a couple of large stones.
Very few facilities nearby so don't forget to take your provisions. Dunsop Bridge is the local village which is very picturesque, but has no shop!
Marks out of 10? 8+ for caravanners, maybe more for tenters!

Lovely site, small and cosy,
We cycled there from Preston on a gorgeous day, within a hour of arriving we watched a barn owl circling the site,
Saw more stars than I've ever seen and enjoyed very much what was only about twelve hours in total

Had a one night camp here over the weekend and it was lovely. Rang up Saturday morning at 9 am to enquiry about a pitch, the lady on the phone was lovely, told us to arrive whenever we wanted, and the price was £8 ! Nice camping field, we picked our own pitch, beautiful views all around and peaceful. Plenty of footpaths from the site which is a working farm. 10 minute walk into the village which has a pub serving food.
Only basic facilities, toilet and hand basin, water tap and chemical toilet point, but this was fine for us.
Spent the evening with a bbq/ fire pit watching the sunset and it was lovely. No one disturbed us even though the site was half full. Would definitely use again.

This is a small site and seems to be used mainly by people passing through the area. The field is on a slight hill. There are a couple of areas where it is level. There are no plots, just set up where you want.
Camp fires are allowed above the ground.
Facilities are very basic: a toilet with a sink, a drinking water tap and a waste disposal tank. There is no electric hookup, play area or washing up facilities.
At the time of writing a caravan, awning and car with two people was £10 a night. It used to be £6 a night about seven years ago, I know other sites with similar facilities that charge less and I think £8 per night would have been more reasonable.
The site is in a lovely, quiet area with good views all round. Two footpaths go through the field, they are excellent places to start walks from.
The nearest shop is Slaidburn Post Office/general stores. They sell newspapers and a small selection of food typical of this sort of shop. This is about a half-hour walk across the fields from the back of the campsite or ten minutes in the car. There is also a cafe near the river and a pub in Slaidburn. There is a pub in Newton for those that want to eat out but it is expensive.
The camp field is on a working farm. The site is located at the back of the farm so the noisiest activity, the morning milking, is on the other side of the farm and cannot really be heard.
The farm owners are very friendly, easy-going and approachable
The entrance to the camp field goes up a slope. The first ten metres or so a track has been laid that takes a vehicle to the top of the slope. However vehicles can struggle when it is very wet once the driving wheels get on to the grass. This can occur if the trailer is still on the slope or if a largish motorhome is trying to move to the top of the field. There is usually someone around to help if this happens.
We have used this site many times over the last few years and will go back again.
The postcode for the site will take sat-nav users too far up the road; once leaving Newton, turn first right and the site entrance is about half a mile on the right. It is signposted Crawshaw farm and has an old Caravan Club sign by the cattlegrid/gate.

Found this site by chance after a trawl through the Internet searching for campsites in the area.
The site is basic compared to other sites however it depends what you look for in a site only a toilet and hand sink but I love being basic. The site is on a working farm, so you need to be prepared for noises and smells but as a country girl this was like being back at home. A bonus is no phone signal a proper break from modern day technology.
I loved this place, quiet, peaceful with stunning views. The heavens opened on Friday night however due to the long grass the site drained incredibly well. There were DofE on site the first night but extremely well behaved, quiet and tidy.
I used this site as a base to walk in the surrounding area, there are walks a plenty and you can pick some up straight from the site itself.
Saturday night there were only two units on site, a shame as the sun was out and the views of the sunset and surrounding hill were idyllic.
You do need to be organised and prepared on this site, local shops are a drive away and it can get windy due to the remote location.
Ate in the Parkers Arms Saturday night hadn't booked but the owners were very accommodating and dog friendly.
The owners are fantastic and leave you to it. I will be returning to try out my new tent.

Crawshaw Farm is a small certificated site (members only) located in a fantastic area for walking and cycling. There is a toilet which is situated next to the farm house which was regularly cleaned and toilet roll re-stocked, during our stay.
The camping field is to the rear of the farm, past the farm house, so there is no road noise at all and there are fantastic views across to the surrounding hills. The field does slope but we got there early so had the choice of where to pitch, we chose the far end of the field and managed to find a level(ish) area for the tent. The field is enclosed by dry stone walls on all sides but it can still get quite windy on the site.
The area seemed very popular with cyclist who were either touring through the area or cycling around the Forest of Bowland and there were a number of cyclist who arrived later on, to stay on the site.
There is a pub in Newton in Bowland but we didn't get chance to go to it. We did visit the Hark to Bounty Inn at Slaidburn and had a good lunch but it does tend to get busy so you may want to get there early. The villages in the area only tend to have small shops in so you may need to bring any essentials with you to Crawshaw Farm.
I really enjoyed staying at Crawshaw Farm and would happily return to it in the future.

This was the second time I have stayed at this site and the views are stunning.
The facilities are basic but clean. There is a drinking water tap. The toilet had loo roll, sanitising handwash and a clean towel and sink.
There is an elsan disposal point near the toilet. The grass tends to be left a little on the long side which is good because if it were short things could get muddy after a downpour, as I have found out from visiting other sites.
We were charged £10 a night for weekend camping, given the facilities available I considered this a little expensive.

Very basic site in beautiful area. We stayed for 1 night (£6). The site has a toilet, a washbasin, a drinking tap and a CDP. The toilet and the wash basin themselves were very clean, but they are in an old fashioned outhouse complete with spiders and cobwebs.
The toilet does have a light now, but I would still bring a torch. The toilets are fairly near the tent field, but it does get dark. The pitch is sloping with ditches, we managed to pitch our Quechua 4. 2 ok. The mobile phone signal is the clearest I've ever had.
Camp fires are no longer allowed. Children are allowed to play ball games in the tent field (or no one tried to stop us!). It is a working farm, with all the usual smells and sounds, but it was lovely to be able to see the animals close up and discuss them with the children.
There is a pub and shop in the nearby town (not sure I'd want to walk it though).
Clitheroe is not too far. We'd stay again if we needed to be in the area.

Came back here again for four nights, one with children and the rest with a friend. It's just as basic as it was but in a lovely part of the country and away from it all which more than compensates in my book. Only £5 a night so couldn't complain, four days away from it all for only £20.
We heard and saw curlews, oystercatchers and other birds on the site and in the Trough of Bowland. The girls paddled in the river near Downham, there wasn't a lot for them to do on the site. Clitheroe is only a few miles away and Waddington Fell is beautiful.
The water is OK as long as you don't look at it too closely and boil it. I don't think I could have stayed longer than four nights as you begin to feel the need to wash by then.
It's also difficult to clean pans, plates etc without any washing up facilities but if it was upgraded too much it would spoil the charm. Someone pulled up one morning with a caravan but left due to lack of facilities.
But despite this I'll be back again, hopefully before the summer's out, it doesn't get crowded like some sites or maybe I'm just anti social?
