We have just returned from this site. We stayed on a premium pitch with a fridge/furniture/parasol/BBQ. It was a nice site. Our pitch was large. Two of the chairs were broken and the BBQ was unusable but they were quickly replaced when we told reception. The toilets were clean but didn't seem to have that many for the size of the site. I think there were only 6 toilets in the ladies. There was a separate family toilet/shower block that was a nice touch. It was quiet at night. It wasn't that warm during our stay and the outdoor pools were a little chilly but the indoor pool was lovely and warm. There is a beach about 5 minutes drive away near St Cast with easy parking and a nice little café and the cleanest beach toilets I have ever come across.

The only downside really was the huge oak trees which made it very shady when really we could have done with some sun coming though. We tried to eat in the restaurant the night we arrived and after waiting for about 10 minutes the waiter told us there would be an hour wait for food so we gave up but luckily stumbled across a pizza van in one of the local villages. It was about 45 minutes to St Malo port. I would return if we were in the area again altough it was very expensive.

We were truly amazed at how well kept and polite the site and staff were. Absolutely fantastic holiday beautiful area of France enough to do on sight for kids and super sized pitches. Would definitely recommend to anyone. A very short drive to Saint cast which has seven beaches which also are pebble and she'll free. Also you stay here definitely try a town called Erquy. Great value too

We’ve just come back from our very first holiday in France, a week at Château de Galinée, St Cast and we had a wonderful time. We stayed in a Eurocamp Classic Tent so won’t talk about the accommodation just the site (although the tents were brilliant!). The site is classed as a small site (by Eurocamp) but compared to many sites I’ve stayed at in the UK it’s not small, having said that it’s not large either. The facilities really are very good, more akin to a holiday complex than a campsite. The swimming complex is very good, 3 clean safe outdoor pools (1 smaller for kids & 2 deeper pools) and 2 water slides which feed into their own dedicated pool separate from the swimmers. We were told that they operate an over 8’s only policy on the slide but there were kids of all ages on the slides which pleased my 5 year old as he got to go on them both. Mostly there were enough sun loungers but on very hot days it did get more crowded, we managed to find some loungers outside the indoor pool instead (while my husband took the little one swimming) and there is a large grassed area if you want to lay your towel although this wouldn’t be so good if you have smaller children you need to watch by the pool. Both indoor pools are also very good and despite the good weather were just as popular as the outdoor pools, although the children’s indoor pool is very small. There is a shop, takeaway and bar/restaurant on site. The shop serves everything you would expect of a small site shop, great fresh bread & pastries every morning and again, even though it was busy in the morning there still seemed to be enough, we never struggled to get fresh bread. We never used the takeaway so cannot comment although it certainly seemed very popular. The takeaway and shop close between 2pm and 5. 30pm everyday even in the height of the season which seemed like a missed opportunity to me as the bar is also closed until 5. 30 so nowhere to get drinks or ice creams from in the heat of the afternoon, but one of the things we loved about the whole area was how uncommercialised it was, I guess badgering people for their money is not a priority in Brittany (what a refreshing change!). The toilets were ok. They are not the best nor the worst I have ever used, I was a bit concerned at first as there is only one set of bathrooms on the site with a family block and I worried there would be big queues for showers but I always managed to get one without trouble. One of the showers in the ladies had a blocked drain so my shoes were flooded and another only had freezing cold water, so not great. However we mostly used the family block which is brilliant. Big rooms with a large shower that can been turned on and off (no timer buttons here) and has adjustable temperature – perfect for kids, they also have a sink and a baby bath with shower head. Showers times were the easiest on a campsite I’ve ever had with my son! The toilets in the ladies block were not always very clean which is a criticism of the users not the site, they were cleaned at least once a day. The play facilities consist of a climbing frame ship outside the toilet blocks, swings and slides in one of the mobile home areas at the far end of the site and 2 bouncy castles next to the bar (one was deflated at 6pm every night). Although there was also a large grassed area next to the bar it would have been nice to have something else for the kids to play on in that area because the bouncy castle became very busy at times (especially being summer holidays) which wasn’t so great for smaller or less confident kids and by the end of the week my son was bored with the bouncy castle. There is also a zip wire in this area, but again used by the bigger kids, not ideal for younger guests. Apart from these few negatives the site was very good. Clean and well looked after, with (mostly) well behaved kids and really quietened down after 10pm. The bar was very nice, I think it has recently been done because it looked very new and smart. The food here was excellent, I highly recommend the 4 cheese pizza – yum  Other site facilities which we didn’t use include tennis court, ping pong tables, mini golf and a fishing lake. The area itself is beautiful. The campsite is near but not next to St Cast. It is a good 30 mins+ walk into town along some very busy, fast roads so I wouldn’t walk it myself but can be reach by car in 10 mins. The beach at Pen Guen is lovely and has a beach bar and restaurant (although we didn’t use it so don’t know if it’s any good) a few people we talked talk recommended it though and the Grande Plage at St Cast itself is a stunning, large, shallow beach absolutely perfect for kids. They even have a couple of kids clubs on the beach that you can pay to use by the hour or per half day. Although they were predominantly French children my son joined in one afternoon, one of the girls who worked their spoke perfect English and helped him out a lot, she even told us we could go shopping if we wanted, just leave them our number and she’d call us if he needed us (which we didn’t do, he’s too young, we stayed 20m away where we could watch him while he played), but thought what a nice option for older children. There is also a marina in St Cast, which is not the best looking Marina I’ve been to but had amazing restaurants, highly recommend the Oysters and St Jacques (huge Scallops to us Brits) at L’petit Mousse – gorgeous. In the centre of St Cast is a square surrounded on 2 sides by restaurants and cafes while in the centre of the square is a park, again just perfect to let our little one play safely while dad and I enjoyed the fine coffee, pastries (and maybe a glass or two of the wonderful local Cidre). The campsite and the area just all seems geared towards fun family holidays. If you are a young couple you might find the pace all a little bit slow and kid orientated but to anyone with a young family or older relatives it’s wonderful. We’d stay again in a shot (after we’ve tried out all the other wonderful places France has to offer).

We had planned to use this site on our way back from Western Brittany, as the reviews all sounded positive. When we arrived the booking office had a large queue so we took the opportunity to look around. A lovely clean site and it looked to be well maintained, with some good pools which would be great for children, and overall facilities, shops, bar etc. It was very busy with a lot of traffic on site. However it was a long way from any beach, the approach roads were also very narrow and busy and as we like to cycle it did seem a bit far from anywhere to visit. So we decided to move on and found a site right near the town of St Cast le Guildo with its fab beaches.

Nice site if you are ok with commercial sites. Some pitches a long way from toilets. Best pitches are those without electric, seem quieter.

Toilets always clean. Pool area always clean. Staff helpful. Caught a couple of fish at the small lake.

It was very busy, but it was peak season. We went for the pools for the children. We wont do this again, we will go to our normal site and have the odd trip to the local pool! We left a day early as commercial sites are not our thing.

No complaints at all really, apart from units with air conditioning are allowed, we had one close to us - what can I say!

Was good that the bar and entertainment was in its own area so we never heard a thing even when the disco was in full swing.

Local area very nice.

This is a very nice campsite indeed. It is easily accessible from the various channel ports (around 7 hours from Calais if towing) with good roads all the way. The site has ample pitches, decent facilities and is safe and secure. There are beaches close by as well as supermarkets and St Malo is about half an hour away. The clientele seemed to be mainly British and French.

When we arrived the reception was very friendly with good English spoken in the office. We were then shown to our pitch. The pitch itself was of a very good size (120m) and we were able to have our folding camper, awning, annexes on both sides and an Outwell tarp erected and this still left good room for the kids to play etc. Each pitch had EHU as well as a fresh water tap and a grey water disposal point. The fresh water taps are threaded to take the type of connection that fits a garden hose pipe so one of these on a foot of hose might be helpful for filling up your Aquarolls.

The kids loved the site as it goes. There’s a barrier entrance with PIN code to get in and out and it felt a safe and secure place for them to play and explore on their bikes. Most people adhered to the 10kmh speed limit but as with all sites, there’s always the odd Lewis Hamilton wannabee! The pools, both outdoor and indoor are fantastic though the outdoor ones could be rather chilly. There are also a few playgrounds dotted around as well as a bouncy castle, small aerial runway and table tennis etc near the restaurant.

The restaurant served very good food and it was reasonably priced and with the kids activities in close proximity, this made eating out anywhere else a bit pointless really. In contrast, the prices at the take away service seemed to be similar to those for sitting down and eating. There is also a shop that sells good bread and croissants in the morning as well as milk and other provisions. For the bigger shop, there is a Super you up the road in Mantignon and an Inter Marche at St Cast, both just several minutes away. Both are well stocked though the Inter Marche seemed better for any camping bibs and bobs you might need. The site itself does not sell gas (it has gas it only for its own static units) and I failed to spot anywhere selling Camping Gaz so you might want to make sure you’ve got plenty before you go or be prepared to hunt some down. I’m sure reception could help you locate it.

The toilets and showers are in a nice, warm and modern block. There is also a family section that has a small bath. It was big enough for a six year old and a four year old to get in together. The showers and toilets were mostly clean but sometimes there were dirty floors from people wearing their shoes in and out. BEWARE – I slipped on the floor in the shower and fell – the floors are very slippery indeed. The water was a bit hit and miss too as the shower could be hot and then run cold even in the same 10 second time burst that the showers are on. I’m all for timed, controlled water useage but 10 seconds isn’t long enough (though it was too long on the cold cycles).

Overall then, a very good site and if you are considering going to this part of the world, it’s certainly a site to consider.

Just back from 2 weeks at Chateau de Galinee. Generally impressed & had a good stay.

Pro's

- In a good way, the site felt smaller than it actually is.

- The site was well maintained and clean. The staff were clearly making an effort to keep it tidy.

- Many of the pitches are arranged around 'greens' which were great for kids to play on & up.

- The water slides & pools were a big hit with our kids (aged 7 & 5). They weren't the warmest, but were well maintained.

- Family shower block was useful.

- The site was generally pretty calm & quiet come 11pm and also in the mornings.

- Lovely area of Brittany. Loads of quiet sandy beaches.

Cons

- The toilets blocks had just been refurbished but needed a bit more work / servicing (eg showers weren't always that hot, hand dryer wasn't working).

- Talking to one couple they said that they found it a bit sterile, but that wasn't our perception.

We'd definitely go back.

This was our third visit to this site. On the previous visits we were with our children and used mobile homes. This was our first holiday on our own as couple in 20 years. We took our own very large tent and found the pitches more than ample in size even for our tent. It had been 4 years since our last visit and the site has been improved greatly. We have been to this site using both the short crossing and long drive and the Portsmouth St Malo ferry. We find that this is much preferable as the site is only 20 mins from the ferry terminal. The pitches are mostly very shaded which may or may not suit. We noticed some customers arriving and then choosing their pitch. If this is possible it is advisable to get just what you want.

The facilities we feel are now pretty top notch. The toilet/shower blocks have been refurbished to a very high standard. They include separate showers wc's and sink vanity cubicles. Also there is a family block for group showering. They were kept very clean but can get busy at times but doesn't every good site. Probably the best toilet block we have seen.

The restaurant/bar as one previous reviewer has said seems too good for a camp site. It isnt cheap but quality is A1. There was a large party staying on the site on one of our nights and they had a party in the restaurant which was lively but very friendly. Most other nights during our week it was quite quiet. The shop is well stocked but as expected not cheap. The SuperU supermarket in Mantignon is only 5 mins away by car so provisions are not a problem.

Reception are friendly and speak good English. The site was quite a mix of Brits, Germans, Dutch, Belgians and French. Reception doesn't open long hours but seems the norm in this area of France as nothing is open on Sundays and many shops close every day for lunch.

The pools are also first rate. The indoor is warm with good changing facilities but not huge and can get busy when the weather is poor. The outside pools are superb with something for everyone including the slides. Watch out for the rules on trunks.

There are 2 beaches within 5 mins by car. One is quiet with no facilities the other more developed in the centre of StCast. More like a British seaside town.

The road between St Malo and the site seems to have grown a lot more shops and restaurants over the last 4 years. Plenty to keep interest including the Grand Aquarium in St Malo.

We found the site quiet at this time of year. Out of school holidays it was mostly older couples in caravans and campervans on the site.

All in all we have to say there was little to complain about apart from the weather which was variable to say the least. The site is very clean and well equipped. Maybe too many rules for some. The facilities are top notch with everything you need close by.

We would very much recommend this site.

This was our first time in Brittany, normally stay in Normandy with family, we hired a canvas tent unit with all the trimmings in peak season. The unit was well equipped, spacious for the family (2 adults, 2 kids) but would not comfortably sleep 6 as was stated.

Unfortunately for us it rained the entire week :o(

Thank goodness for the car is all I can say! We found the site too small for our liking and a bit too far from the town and beach, I like to be within walking distance of everywhere.

The young english couple in charge of site were lovely and very helpful, however after 3 days of rain and nothing to do in the evenings I was homesick! There is only so much you can do in the evening with no evening entertainment. The brochure stated (playgrounds) for kids, I would hardly say playgrounds! A couple of ropes and a slide dotted about!

The outdoor pools were fantastic, we had one sunny afternoon where we managed to go in!

Indoor pool was tiny and crowded, not big enough for amount of tourists at all!

Shower blocks were fab, lovely family showers, always hot.

I would maybe bring my kids in a few more years when they are able to entertain themselves (they were 4 and 7 when we went) and I found the whole week keeping them entertained exhausting!

I just felt a little too far away from anything, and there was nothing for the kids to do in poor weather. Thinking of SW france next year to hopefully guarantee better weather.

Restaurant was nice, clean, had a nice meal, a little pricey but ok, on site shop had the basics, also very pricey as on site shops always are.

Nice large pitches for tents and tourers, compared to Uk! Ideal for families with kids 9 and over who are happy to cycle around the park, go on bouncy castles while mum and dad have a glass of wine and a book!

Reception spoke good English and were helpful.A mixture of english, German and Dutch holidayers stayed, quite a relaxed friendly site, but sadly not for me!

We've stayed at a couple of Castels' sites and there's a certain level of quality that you'd expect - and you shouldn't be disappointed here.

We were on a pretty big pitch about two 'blocks' over from the modern, clean toilets and sanitary block. The family toilet block is lovely if you can force the kids out of bed in the morning!

The pool area is very nice - lovely variety of pools and slides. Note the rule about trunks - they will chuck you out if you try to wear them!

The restaurant/bar next to the pool is excellent - looks a bit swish for a campsite but lovely! The indoor pool is very warm but a bit 'chemically'.

The shop and the takeaway are both great - note the opening hours though!

Generally there were a lot of families on the site when we were there - many of the kids seemed to be up quite late but everyone shut up by about 11 and it was lovely and peaceful.

The only thing I'd warn about is that some of the pitches are quite shady. Especially the low numbered ones. Try to get hold of a map of the plots and see if you can get a pitch up the top of the site near the loo block. It poured several times while we were there and the ground was fine but then we were in quite a sunny area.

In summary - nice site, helpful staff, clean, spacious, modern - watch you don't get a shady pitch!
