This pub is a lovely venue. My son held his wedding reception there and it was appreciated by everyone. I stayed here as I was visiting nearby relatives.
When I arrived in the evening there was an event in the main marquee which I was pitched next to. Over by eleven and not disruptive though there were children running around.
There was a hiccough over electric hook up. The staff did their best to help without success but never the less it was a good pitch. The ground was hard as it was August and next to conifers so a hammer essential for pegs. Caravan peeps next door were helpful and lent me theirs.
It was a whistle stop tour so didn't have time to appreciate the lovely walks available. As a keen lover of birds I appreciated the birds of prey and an amazing dawn chorus. I previously lived here and can highly recommend nearby Barton springs.
There's a spring! And a lovely walk in, at the right time of year you can collect philberts for roasting. True chalk down with chalk Hill blue butterflies and wild thyme on the hills, my children had many adventures running through the woods and playing in the spring and running up and down those chalk downs.
From the tops there are amazing views. If the pub is open you have access to a loo. They are accommodating to opening early access to the loo if asked.
If your bladder is active really early or you have small children I'd invest in a camping loo/tent as they have disposal points.
The food in the pub is good pub fayre, great mixed grill, and good children's meals, children's play ground which must be supervised. We ate here on the Saturday evening and the standard was high, nine of us well served and looked after.
I'll visit again its fab.

Very disappointed. There was no-one to greet us to show us where to park and where the water/waste etc was. Eventually one of the staff came out and showed us our choices, either between a caravan and a land rover or a portable toilet unit and a shed. We chose the former and luckily the caravan owner was very helpful and allowed us to park close to him so that we had some room on our awning side.
Unfortunately this meant we were nearer than the 6 metres required for fire regulations and it lessened his space.
We asked the pub if the land rover could be moved and eventually it was so we now had a view of the portable toilets but we were able to put our awning out the next day. The toilets were moved up that day which gave us more room, albeit on uncut and muddy grass.
There are no specific recycling bins for the site and the water is shared with a hosepipe. The chemical disposal waste is a manhole on the drive to the pub car park, with no washing facilities to clean the cassette.
There was no information point to show the surrounding area or public walks etc. Our view was of containers, marquees, sheds, a static caravan and worker vehicles on the car park area, but this is pointed out in the description of the site.
We saw the owner inadvertently one day and he didn't ask if we were happy with the site, in fact he was quite offhand.
On the plus side there is a large field which could be used for family games although it was somewhat boggy in parts, the site is secure and the pub staff were pleasant. We didn't eat in the pub but understand the food is good.
We didn't explore the area so we cannot comment on that. We have recently stayed at Garden House CL at Tattingstone for the same money, £20pn with electric, and there is no comparison.
Thankfully the weather was good otherwise it would have been a dismal few days.

We booked here as we were going to a wedding at the same location.
The location was perfect for us, we were able to walk across the field from the marquee! We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, starry skies and live music coming from the pub on Sunday.
The provision is fairly basic (just electric hook up and a water tap, no loos open overnight but access to the pub loos during the day) however this is reflected in the price and with so many beautiful places to visit in the area, it's well worth the effort.

This is the best pub campsite we have ever stayed at & we travel frequently all over England.
The site was immaculate with short cut grass & a right of way path leading directly to a great walk for my dog.
We ate in the pub, the food was excellent & well priced,
The staff very attentive & the real ales superb.
A very enjoyable evening only wish we could have stayed longer but plan to come back.

Wonderfully friendly staff, couldn’t be more helpful.
We arrived at 21:00 but this wasn’t a problem at all, they opened the gate and showed us to our pitch.
It is a lovely site, nice and flat and well kept.
We would definitely visit again.

What a gem of a find - lovely quiet rural location in an absolutely beautiful village -
I would definitely recommend -
Yes, you do need your own facilities -
Fabulous welcoming pub who also does great value meals -
If you want 5 star facilities then book a five star site and pay the price -
But for us - 10 stars to everyone at The Cross Keys -
We will certainly want to return -
Well done for such a lovely place

It's a nice rural location in the grounds of a lovely independent pub.
On arrival, the staff kept referring me to another to book me in, who would benefit from being a little more informed.
However, the setup is clearly for those who use a campervan, not tent. This is because their are not toilets other than those in the pub itself - only during licensing hours. This really needs correcting.

Disliked ; toilet emptying location in center of carpark / field entrance so timing crucial and no rinse water. Water tap shared with workers in permanently sited caravans connected via hosepipe all the time. Outside catering business run from units around field top edge, maintenance and loading of equipment, most days, lots of machinery noise, party marquee and associated noise till very late
Liked pub and pub food and staff

Pros - site is at the rear of a lovely quaint village pub. Staff were very friendly & helpful however it was closed for food ( we were informed beforehand) which was a shame as it looked lovely. Pitched on only hard standing area which was back corner of pub car park so was clean. Very handy for our drop off the following day. ( we only stayed one night)
Not so good - access was very tight for our large motor home. We parked ok but we’ were then effectively blocked in to the front by a security type van. There was a large 4 x 4 on the access road which meant we only just got past by pushing the wing mirrors in.
It seemed obvious to us that the car park is used by businesses & locals to park. Vehicles were coming and going from the late evening and early morning so we were disturbed at each end of the night. I wouldn’t want to stay longer than one night for this reason. The field pitches were too muddy to pitch there.
Chemical toilet emptying place was just a hatch in the middle of the drive so not really ideal. Didn’t see any toilets or showers but we didn’t need these.
I would recommend some signs to ask other car park users to respect quiet times for campers using the area.
Having said all this I would recommend as a stopover site. Particularly for the lovely pub. Perhaps it would be better at other times of the year in the field area when dry.
