Pricing is expensive at £34 night per pitch with no facility for disposing of grey waste pitches are on grass with less than 6 metres between units/cars.

Showers should be included at that price instead it’s £2 for 10 minutes which most people we spoke to was a their biggest gripe.

Site gets a lot of road noise from the M1 and the A50 which if you are a light sleeper would be a big problem.

Site shop/Chandlery could stock a few more items as choice was very restrictive to say there is no shop in the village

On arrival we went to the booked pitch to be told we had been moved to the other end of the site because the warden said it was water logged. Not very happy so we set up on our new pitch.

The following day we then noticed a caravan and motor home parking near to our original pitch. We Telephoned reception to firstly be told that out pitch was cleared for use the previous Monday and that we could move if we wanted. We declined due to the fact that we had set up including both awnings. Despite further complaining we received no satisfaction from reception so informed them we would not be returning.

The shower and toilet facility are good but we thought £2 for a shower was expensive when the site fee for us was £40 per night.

We also noticed that for people arriving on Friday afternoon they were unable to find the warden for the gate fobs. It necessitated a visit to The Boathouse pub to find him.

The good point is The Boathouse located on the site. Excellent service, drinks, food and very friendly staff.

We are now looking for another site within that vicinity as is suits our needs in relation to travelling.

Arrived in the rain, and after finding the Site Office we went to our pitch. At the time of booking I hadn't realised it was a Grass and not Hardstanding pitch, so was a little worried when we found it. We reversed on the pitch and found we needed ramps to level up.

Unfortunately, the ground was boggy and we got stuck. The Warden arranged for a tractor to come and tow us out, and we then moved to a downward sloping grass pitch. Not the best start.

Also the wet conditions after a sunny few days in which the grass had been cut meant that everything got covered in grass (hence why we always book hard standing). After these hiccups, things improved.

The site being next to Marina was surprisingly quiet, and whilst there are many seasonal caravans on site, most were unoccupied. The toilets were modern and clean and the £2 showers gave you just enough time.

The touring area was tidy and there is a pub on site although we chose to go elsewhere. Tried the Dog and Duck and the Clock Warehouse, both served good value meals in a nice atmosphere.

Lovely walks along the Trent Mersey Canal, and a nice cycle ride to Elvaston castle.

Pricing for this time is not cheap at £40, and we didn't think the price matched the facilities, but I guess you pay for a pub on site and closeness to Shardlow and its many pubs and eateries.

We had read reviews and they were a bit hit and miss, but we decided to book anyway. We were not disappointed it was a nice site.

On arrival we had to find the warden in the marina and then we pitched up. It was nice and clean, showers were okay but be quick and you will soon run out of water.

Lovely walks along the Trent and Mersey canal and some lovely pubs along the way.

Only negative point is that if you have dogs they cannot be let off lead, NO DESIGNATED WALK although they have loads of surrounding GRASSED AREAS.

For a good walk /Run you have to walk out of the site and find the public footpath / Canal which is not bad as pubs on the way.

Would we return again Yes.

The site served its purpose for being in the area we wanted to be but we were a bit disappointed mainly with the charges. £22 a night for 2 people in a small MH + £2 for a small dog! Why?

Pitch was on the access road because the grass pitches were closed for the Winter and note would be very cosy if site busy in Summer.

£1 for a shower token on top although that was for an excessive 15 mins of water but no mention of this on website or even booking form or welcome greet. Showers are new but badly designed, water runs into drying area and temp regulator is behind the spray.

On-site pub, separate business iss very entertaining and extremely dog friendly

Greeted by the warden at the gate on arrival and were given a gate fob and directions to our pitch. This was our first visit to this campsite and we would have hoped for at least a map (like most sites) showing the facilities whereabouts.

We soon enough found the facilities but could see no signs of the reception although we didn't see this as a problem. On Saturday before going out to dinner my wife and I decided to go for a shower. We then found out that we would need tokens for the hot water.

We asked a fellow camper and he directed us to the reception where we could purchase them. When we found it, it was closed for the day so we both had to have cold showers.

I have sent an email expressing my disappointment about the lack of information but have received no reply.

This is a nice site by the marina with great pubs a short walk away but the lack of information given to its customers really lets it down.

Had a 4 night stay Tues-Sat after the late May BH, was quiet up till the Friday afternoon then rammed. £22per night and £8 for awning. We had pitch 72 which was the furthest from Smithys bar & facilities but ok as use our own.

Loved the location as near canal and river for running/bikes. Site is marked by a huge sign for Smithys bar on the road and directly next to the Navigation pub, if you take the road beside the Navigation pub and walk to end you come to the canal and 2 pubs, we ate in The New Inn and can thoroughly reccommend the food for quality and quantity.

We enjoyed our stay and would return if in the area.

A picturesque site in a pleasant rural area.

Our first night, a Friday was fine but come Saturday morning and good weather the caravans never stopped arriving until the site was packed like sardines with vans to the front, the rear, the sides, everywhere.

Not a good experience.
