First impressions were not good! The Touring Section here is definitely an afterthought. We used our car to get to main facilities. We were pitched at top of site and so windy - car and caravan ended up covered in sand. Pitches were very sloping and not clearly marked; thankfully we had vacant pitch next to us or it would have felt like sardines!
New toilet and shower-block is good but we don't base our holiday around this! Main facilities were OK but Haven charge for every little extra. Water Walkerz (like hamster balls on water)were £4 for 30 mins and you were tethered to a rope so could only spin on the water like a hamster in a wheel! Roller rink (disused sports hall) £4 for 30 mins - and you had to provide own skates! The pool was nice. Not big enough for site if full but very warm and nice safe slide. Changing rooms were freezing!
Mash and Barrel meals were nice if not a little overcooked. On site chippy was lovely but £4.50 for 1 fish! Two club houses - one where people queued from 5pm to get a seat - other quite empty and lacking any atmosphere. Bar prices OK £2.90 pint - but kids sweet shop/ souvenir shop were extortionate. Everything is placed to make you spend money. You have to negotiate the arcades to get to cafes, pool, bars etc etc.
This review is negative. We did enjoy our break but had to make our own entertainment. The Yorkshire coast is glorious but would not stay at this site again. We were lucky to have got this break very cheap.Glad we didn't pay full price. We did check out 2 other Haven sites and believe it or not Blue Dolphin seems the best of the bunch.

Firstly I cannot complain about the price - £30 for 4 nights in Easter school holidays, for an electric pitch is a bargain, so in terms of value for money, it could have been a field full of sheep and I wouldn't have complained
This is what I would describe as an average site. Well stocked shop and good facilities - showers, toilets, pot washing all spotless, undercover and plenty of room
The slope is a killer, our caravan was at a right sideways tilt. Kids (aged 4 & 5) wanted to ride their bikes and kick a ball but they couldn't due to the slope
Pool and play area are great for kids. Wouldn't recommend for older children (10 & up)
Could do with direct access to the beach to make this site more appealing
Good location for all places on the east coast. Nice cliff to walk to Filey, (about an hour walk or 5 minutes drive) and 20 minute drive to Bridlington or Scarborough means there is plenty to do off site if you like to visit different places. Whitby is approx 40 minutes by car
Typical Haven site with cafe / bar / entertainment on site, but very expensive for what you get, which kind of spoiled it a bit
Overall, a nice site with plenty to do, as long as you've saved for a few months first and don't mind chasing all your belongings as they rolls down the hill

First camping outing of the year at Blue Dolphin, Filey, and generally not too bad! We've had a few bad experiences with Haven in the past, particularly in this area (avoid Reighton Sands at all costs) so were a little wary, but booked with an open mind.
Apparently the toilet/shower block underwent major renovations last year, and has been greatly improved. Showers are hot, free and generally clean, or at least cleaned fairly frequently if left less than satisfactory by the last user. There are plenty of toilets and when in was busy one particular day a member of staff came by and opened up another section off the main block which eased the problem. The fact that you have to press the button to activate the shower every 15 seconds is a minor irritation really.
Dishwashing facilities are very good, under cover with plenty of stations and generally kept very clean as well.
Facilities are typical Haven (showbar, family entertainment etc.), not really our thing so we didn't indulge but available if we wanted to. The 'boating lake' was a small pond and some tents would have been bigger than the go-karting area, but these are only minor things and most campers didn't seem to be bothered about them anyway. Lack of good evening entertainment seemed to mean most campers staying in their tents and some were a bit noisy with music/dvds etc. But most were quiet and stuck to the site's 'no noise after 11pm' policy.
The kids used the swimming pool and it was clean and tidy but not particularly exciting, however younger children would probably enjoy it more. The on-site play areas were geared towards younger children as well, but seemed well maintained and clean.
We did use the restaurant on the last night of our stay and the food was good, served fairly quickly given that they were exceptionally busy, a little overpriced as you'd expect but not bad for all that. The on-site shop (Spar) was well-stocked and carried a decent range, but there's a Tesco in Filey as well as various other small supermarkets round and about so shopping isn't a problem.
We missed the direct beach access that other sites often have, but Blue Dolphin is fairly central for the East cost seasides, Scarborough is only 6m away and Filey even closer. Would have been nice for an evening stroll but will consider this when booking next time.
Our only gripe really was the slope on the touring field which really was bad in some places. We were at the bottom of the field (which is a *long* way from the toilets in the middle of the night!) but the slope was very noticeable all the way down and not very comfortable for camping on at all. Several other reviews mentioned this before we booked but I didn't think it would be quite as bad as it was, and we wished we'd taken more notice after the first uncomfortable night, particularly when siting the cooker etc.!
Overall not a bad site, cheap and cheerful and probably with a better standard of facilities than you'd generally expect from a Haven site. Having said that, I think the slope might well put us off coming back and since there is no direct beach access, I think we might check out one of the many other sites in the area next time we're back this way.

This was my first visit to Blue Dolphin, and also my first ever visit to a Haven site. I arrived on Easter Monday shortly after dinner. There were some queues for entering the site but when booking in at reception the staff were very efficient and friendly at booking people.
I was given directions to my pitch and went on my way. I was surprised at the poor condition of the roadway and the narrowness of this leading up to the top end of the touring area. There were 2 annoyingly placed part way up a hill.
I was allocated a hardstanding pitch which consisted of a concrete base and a patch of dry mud where the awning should go (I presume this was probably grass at some point) and there was a mound behind which separated the row of hardstandings from a tent field behind.
was shocked at how sloping the pitches were considering they were hardstanding. After talking to others and seeing other vans it seemed that all the pitches were sloping, badly!
Its worth noting that the water pressure at the taps on site is appallingly low and has stupid push button taps. Your better to use the main shower/toilet block for filling your containers as the pressure is much better there.
The spacings between units on the hardstandings were adequate whilst the units on grass pitches seemed on top of each other and I saw examples of where the rear end of 1 unit was only 1ft away from another units porch awning.
The main shower and toilet block was reasonably clean. The showers were being constantly mopped by attendants but I sometimes found the toilets to be a little dirty. There were also a few notes lying around left by people asking for valuables back that had gone 'missing' whilst using the facilities a
One of the constant annoyances however was the amount of rubbish, mainly beer cans that was blowing over the mound from the tent field.
The entertainments complex was around 5mins at most walk through the statics and had 3 bars and a choice of 2 takeaways. There was a more grown up harvester type bar at the front and 2 'showbars' which housed most of the entertainment.
The entertainment was primarily aimed at young children with very little for either adults or teenagers, as an adult it would be better to use the harvester type bar rather than the showbars. The few adult acts that they did have on were not that great.
The bar prices were as expected expensive and so was the takeaway food available on site but there are many local takeaways that will deliver to site if you wish and they do come round with leaflets for these, most are free delivery.
All in all the site was cheap, I paid £54.00 for 5 nights for me and my girlfriend. However would not go back there as the touring area was a bit tatty in places, dependant on your pitch you risk being hemmed in
I would not use this site again but would consider Haven again. Would be good however for a family with small children in terms of entertainment.

We arrived quite late but thanks to our friends arriving first they had collected our welcome pack so we knew where we were to pitch. We are very familiar with the site but hadn't been last year as the renovations had been done and Haven told us we had to book 2 pitches owing to the length of our caravan (27ft). This time we had booked a hard standing so this wasn't an issue.
We were delighted with the new facilities and could almost forget the poor standard they were before! Haven may still have work to do here but the shower blocks were brill!
There are cleaning staff on hand all day so they always look clean and well stocked of loo roll. The site has the traditional layout of Statics closest to the main facilities but it is only a short 5 minute walk there.
The swimming pool has also been renovated and it's no longer a shabby, grotty place. The entertainment has been rejigged and I don't like that they have removed the yard cups and the 4 pint pitchers that we have come to expect as being over priced but part of the experience.
The staff were all friendly and polite. We look forward to going again between Easter Monday and the Royal Wedding, especially as its less that £30 for 4 nights!
We look forward to many, many visits in 2011 and beyond!

This is the 3rd time we've been to this site and this time round we were very disappointed.
The site is on the side of a hill leading down to a road between this and the static park.
We booked early this time for the Easter weekend and although our location was reasonable, it was so uneven that I had to go and buy another ramp just to level the caravan.
Due to it being Easter weekend the park was jam packed, to such an extent that we barely had room to park our car. The pitches ae numbered but it seemed that very few had taken notice of where to pitch up and an awful lot of tents were interspersed between the caravans. This lead to the feeling of the place being really cramped with the issue of noise raising its head all the time. The site has security which you see but I didn't see them approach anyone, not even at 2am!
The Haven park itself is good for kids, and the restaurants and bars don't take your eyes out like you'd expect. I would even give a special mention to the fish and chip shop in th complex which is as good as I've ever had.
My advice is don't book up for bank holiday weekends.

Myself and friends went here for a 3 night break in a tent with electrics the field itself is really big only problem was we were not allowed to pitch next to each other. The first two nights were really good, the children had shows to watch and plenty to do through the day. The 3rd night was going really well but when taking the children to the toilets a member of staff that wasn't working that night was really rude towards both myself and the child.

We arrived here just after 12 noon and I found a note on the wardens door saying if you need me ring this number which I did, I explained we had come to check in, now this what I couldn't understand you are only allowed to check in after 12 noon so why wasn't the warden there! By the time she had arrived there was a few of us waiting to check in she told me to move my car and trailer tent has the other people's cars and caravans were blocking the road. After checking in she showed me were I could pitch and said be careful its very muddy up there and she wasn't wrong either, the kids thought it was great jumping in all that mud!
There are codes to use for the loos which when you have got kids and they need the loo in the night can be a bit of a pain. The loos are fine I just found the showers not very good, when you are in the shower I found you need a curtain to keep your clothes dry. There is a family room you can use but has it was the end of October it was too cold to use there, is no heating in unlike the main ones!
We had a walk over to the main building to see what was going on and it was packed in the show bar, no where to sit/stand so we took the kids in the amusements for a little while. There is a burger king and pizza place on site, with typical holiday park prices!
Overall though it was a break and there is some lovely places to go to, we went to York for the day to the train museum and had a brill day out for free! A little tip, use the park and ride it doesn't cost much and much easier to get into York because parking can be a bit of a nightmare!

Arrived on site after 6pm however there was a contact number we could ring, we called the out of hours number and they came, knew we were due to arrive and showed us to our pitch.
The site was very boggy, I know haven cant help the weather, but there was a few of us bogged down and a few getting stuck.
The shower blocks though were very clean and well maintained.
Entertainment was great, if I'm honest the week we had was a bargain, and we got to stay on site for another night for a small fee.
The only thing we would say is we feel the touring site needs an upgrade, not many hard standing pitches and the fields can get very bogged down
Overall though we had a great time, it was cheap and the site overall was in good shape with friendly staff.

Having had a poor experience this summer at another Haven site I was beginning to think in terms of stopping using them (even though we mainly use them for “off peak” camping which turns out to be very cheap indeed). However, as we were taking my partners granddaughter, whom is seven, camping for the first time, Haven appeared a safe bet.
I am glad to say that Haven redeemed themselves with this site. We stayed over a long bank holiday weekend and, whilst the site was busy, it was not overcrowded.
The site offers all the usual Haven “entertainment” fare (Spar shop, amusement arcade, show bars, kids club, bar meals, fast food joints, swimming pools etc.) which I appreciate is not everybody’s cup of tea, but the granddaughter loved it. Along with swimming there is also a large indoor kid’s play area that has ball pools, slides and climbing frames and the like which are free (and actually occupy the kids quite nicely) so not everything here is costing you.
The touring area is very large and is situated on a gentle incline towards the cliffs, but terminates before the cliff edge as there are static caravans there (not Haven’s). The area is roughly divided in half with vans in the upper section and tents in the lower section, the tent area being again divided between EHU pitches and non-EHU pitches. Whilst on a slope the land has been sculptured to provide fairly level pitches for all units. The layout makes for a nice site at multiple levels. There is also a field set aside for non-EHU tents, which is fairly flat also.
The facilities are first rate, with the upper area (mainly vans, but some tents), having a brand new “state of the art” toilet, shower and pot washing block. This was in immaculate condition, and given the amount of bank holiday people here, it was always spotlessly clean when I used it. The lower (tents) section had a facilities block made out of “porta cabin” units which l can safely say were quite a surprise once inside. These cabins are also fairly new and just as well presented and kept as the upper area block – you soon forget that you are in a “porta cabin”. The showers are of note as they are regular domestic electric showers – nice and hot, and no time cut off. Whilst in a very good state the only down side of this block was a diesel generator that was running 24/7. What it was supplying I can only guess at but it does create noise that you notice at night. We were pitched fairly close to the block so suffered with the noise, but it is one of those environmental noises you soon get used to, and is only a slight annoyance the first few nights. It is luck of the draw if you end up near the generator and many pitches probably don’t suffer this noise.
The site is prone to the notorious East Coast winds that can hit the Filey bay area, but is more sheltered than some of the more exposed cliff top sites in the area. The wind however is not to be taken lightly and a close eye on the weather is required and proper tent pitching essential. Unfortunately the last day of our stay the wind turned nasty and many tents were destroyed or had to be taken down to prevent destruction, but this weather was extreme and the worst I’ve ever experienced in the area after many years of visiting. If you know how to correctly pitch your tent, and what your tent can actually stand up to, then don’t let this put you off.
This area of the coast is stunning and the location is an excellent base for some East Coast or North Yorkshire Moors exploration. Scarborough is a short drive (or medium cliff walk) away as is the nearer Filey. You can walk along the cliffs to either town along the Cleveland Way long distance footpath. On a more practical note there are large supermarkets near Scarborough which are good for supplies rather than the on site store.
All in all it was a very good camping experience; the actual site and pitches being excellent. Most people will be here for family holidays where entertaining the kids is the priority, so with a good camping field with first rate facilities it is well worth a visit if you like the “holiday park” experience. Haven are always good for cheap camping “off peak” and this site is one of the better ones when it comes to tent camping so, again worth considering even if you don’t have kids in tow.
