Stayed here for 2 nights, on a grass pitch.
Nice warm welcome and told where all the facilities were and the code for shower blocks.
Very good sized pitches.
Yes it is a long walk to the toilets if you are at the far end of the site, which sadly we were and must agree with someone else's comment, that the site would work better for all if it was the other way. With the caravans that will obviously have their own toilets at the far end of the field.
(we did see the portaloo's on the dog walk, but can't say the smell emanating from them was very nice and seemed a popular place for the children to be playing?!)
These were worth the walk, visited plenty of sites but best showers I have used in this country by far!spotlessly clean and fresh smelling.
We did order the croissants for the following morning, and having only been back from touring France recently, I am sorry to say but they were quite poor. The dog had an extra breakfast!
Used the pub for a nice meal on the saturday night, good job it was after a long walk during the day. Huge portions of lovely food for brilliant price.
All in all we had a lovely weekend on a lovely peaceful site, highly recommend.

This campsite is in a lovely Location but we would not come here again. On arrival to our pitch we found a bucket full of toilet waist in the grass, so the owners clearly don't check the pitches after the previous campers check out. Our pitch was right at the bottom of the site and all the amenities are at the entrance to the site so you have to walk all the way there with a bowl full of pots and pans for washing. The caravans were far closer to the facilities than the tents who don't have a sink for washing pots or a toilet. There is 2 porter loos at the bottom of the site but they were smelly and disgusting. A few times my daughter and myself went to the main toilets we noticed people had been smoking and there were cigarette buts in the toilets. The showers were far too hot it is ok if you like hot showers but they could easy burn children. I have been camping for years and the is the worst site we have ever been to.

We have been going to The Black Bull caravan park now 2 or 3 times a season for some 14/15 yrs, and so thought it was time to give it a review. Obviously after all those years of watching the site mature into what it is now, we’re unlikely to give a negative review.
The pitches are spacious and level, and surrounded by hedges; there are ample water and electric points. We can however sympathise with those in a tent and the far end of the field saying it’s a long walk to the toilet block, but that’s camping! For those in caravans with a loo this is not a problem as the disposal point is good and the toilet block immaculate. There is also a good re-cycling system. At the entrance to the site is the Black Bull pub, which is separately owned.
Which brings us to the main point. Some 100yrds from the entrance to the Black Bull site across the road is “Spencer’s Bar and Grill”. This is a new venture set up by a very friendly family. Although on our visit it had been open only a few days and suffering teething problems, we had and excellently cooked and moderately priced meal. Seated on the paved patio area overlooking a grassed area with trees and a lake in the background. The inside dining area is also new and fitted out to a high quality. With lager @ £2. 50 a pint and a bottle of wine for £10, we would recommend Spencer’s to others, or at least go and have a look !
P. S
Have just found out from friends that Spencer’s do ‘take-a-ways ‘ too.

What a lovely site with large flat pitches, lots of water points, modern and well-maintained wash up area, showers and toilets - all really clean. Friendly staff and you can order your papers from reception the day before -a nice little extra. Showers are free and the games room is very well equipped. An easy 1. 5 mile flat walk into Pickering where there are shops & pubs, castle and steam train. A great weekend and will definitely return!

We stopped here for the May half term and the site was full. You don't have to be a C&C member to stop here, we just booked via their website. Nice sized level pitches clearly marked out, although can be a walk to the showers and toilets if you are at the furthest end. We were but 2 portaloos have been put in on the dog walking track, alright in an emergency but we all still preferred to use the proper toilets. (All the hardstanding pitches for caravans are nearest to the toilets and they have their own bathrooms, whats all that about?) Wasn't bothered by any traffic noise although we were at the opposite end of the field. Lovely playground for the children which had picnic tables. Facilities are spotless and have to be among the cleanest we have ever experienced, just don't forget your code to get in if you're in a rush! We noticed the wardens keeping an eye on the noise levels at 11. 00 as there were a couple of 'party tents' on the field. Had days out to the Heartbeat village, Scarborough and Whitby which weren't too far away. Always like to try somewhere new each time so might not venture back but would recommend to others.

Our twin axle fitted easily onto the large pitches, pleased to see the massive improvements made to the pitches. The campsite is really well laid out and even though the road noise is bad, it does quieten down later on. The cost is very good for this part of the country, and I would definitely return.
The showers are extremely clean, and whilst not the newest, the water was hot and plentiful. The shot walk to the showers, toilets and waste disposal was perfectly adequate.
The campsite have started selling croissants and baguettes on a morning, we bought and enjoyed them, made me feel quite french.

Booked this a few days before to take advantage of the weather and managed to get a space, which being an ardent Caravan Club fan is generally difficult to achieve with them at this time of year.
Given that I like the standard of CC sites I have to say I was extremely pleased with what I found at the Black Bull site. Decent hard standing pitches, level and recently planted hedges will give increased privacy once matured. What was a real hit with the kids was the games room. Whilst basic it was functional and hosted a table tennis table which was all out children required.
The shower block was extremely clean. No complaints at all
We went biking in Dalby Forest which was minutes away and Pickering is 5 minutes in the Car and is a lovely small town.
My only slightly negative, and which was probably a factor of the hot weather was that there was music coming from one tent until the early hours. Would probably benefit from a walk around from the wardens to enforce the no noise rule after 11am.
However, did not spoil the stay and would I visit again? Definitely. We are going to do what most others seemed to do and go with some friends and have a pleasant social evening together. In addition, I will book at short notice if the weather prevails and we want to go into Dalby Forest

Spent a weekend here recently, and had an OK time, but nothing spectacular.
Pitches are large, we had a hardstanding pitch, water and electricity are within easy reach of each pitch, although facilities for emptying grey water, and toilet waste are too far away from the main camping area.
Toilets and showers were a reasonable standard, and are accessed via a keypad with a combination lock.
The site is adjacent to a very busy road, and the noise was quite intrusive especially at night, good facilities for children, including a games room.
It takes about 30 minutes to walk in to Pickering, where you will find some nice shops, and cafe's - this is well worth doing, as it can be difficult to park on busy days.
Used the adjacent pub (Independent to camp site) for a meal which was OK but again nothing special.
Others have mentioned the great welcome they received from the site owners - well I'm afraid it certainly did not apply in our case - enough said make your own decision if you decide to go
Plenty of signage telling you what you can't do, but not enough signage for general information
This is not a bad site, but not our cup of tea, there is lots of choice in this area - so we will not be paying a return visit

Nice little campsite. We stayed in the caravan / motorhome part which is basically a typical rectangle layout.
Pitch was big enough for our small camper and friends tent on the grass. £20 a night inc EHU
Didn't ask for C&C card on arrival though.
Friendly owners with a beautiful Great Dane dog.
Reasonable shop prices.
Shower block and toilet area clean, spacious showers, no queues around the 9am mark.
About 30 minutes walk into Pickering, though dark and no lights on the way back. A fiver in the taxi instead. I reccomend the NYMR train trips and the Sun inn.

A marvellous time was had by all the family at this great campsite, even our dog loved it. Perfectly situated for trips to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough, Goathland, Dalby Forest, etc.
The campsite is small but each pitch is of a great size - we had room for our 8 berth tent and car with room to spare.
There is a children's play area and a games room which my 7 and 11 year old loved - 50p for a game of pool. There is also a playing field for playing football (goal posts), frisbee or flying a kite.
Toilets and showers were always clean and tidy.
Dog walking area with poo bins - great facility.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Local shops in Pickering or Malton (Morrisons in Malton too). There are two garages on the way into Pickering.
There is a pub virtually on the site but we did not use it.
My only little niggle is that the toilet block/dishwashing area is a couple of minutes walk away from the main touring field. But there are 2 portaloos at the top of the dog walk if nature calls.
A popular, well located site that is very well run and we would definitely return to - my kids aged 6, 7 and 11 are asking when are we going back already.
