I discovered Hillside Caravan Park Easter 2011 and it’s my most favourite site by far. The site accommodates both families and areas for couples alike due to its vast site area and pitch lay outs. Toilet and shower are always clean and warm. The pitch I use is fully serviced with water electric TV and waste drainage. There are walks from the site leading to the surrounding areas. The owners Chris and Pat are always there and very helpful and of course views are amazing of beautiful North Yorkshire.

This is one of our favourite sites, it is ideally situated for Herriot country and many other places of interest, and Teesside retail park is only a short trip away. The amenities block is modern heated and very clean, the pitches are a good size, level and have water, drainage and electricity right at the side of your pitch, all in all a very nice site which we use quite regularly

This is the best site we have visited. Its so lovely that we have stored our tourer caravan here and we visit as often as we can!
As soon as you arrive at this site there is such a warm welcome from the ownwers, check in is quick and nothing is a problem if you need any help at all getting to know the site/area.
The views are amazing, even on a cold november evening it is so pretty. There is ample space on the large, immaculate super pitch!
The facilities are immaculate too, as a matter of fact everything is amazing about Hillside Caravan Park.
Thirsk is a 5 minute drive away with plenty of shops, etc.
There is also a well kept children's play park.
Also dogs are welcome and there are plenty of lovely walks near by.
We could not rate this site enough, don't hesitate to book its amazing.

It has been a good few years since I last visited here and all I can say is it has got even better than my last few visits.
The site is expanding daily and the new reception area is coming along great.
Still a friendly and warm welcome and the site is immaculate.
I would recommend this this site over and over again other caravan site owners should take a visit and take heed on how to lay out and run a site. A real credit to its owners. We will be back again soon.

Recently returned from this lovely site. Upon arrival we were shown to our super pitch (just about all of them are apart from a few grass pitches on the top field)and the size and space between each of these pitches is fantastic - can honestly say I've never seen so much space between caravans which meant you didn't feel hemmed in. The toilet/shower block was spotlessly clean with the bonus of underfloor heating. For the children there was a play park which was adequate and in the adjoining field a fish pond. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, especially after we realised we'd forgotten our mallet when putting up the awning. Thirsk is only a 5 minute drive should you need any essentials. We also visited Whitby which was about an hours drive. Would we visit this site again? Definitely and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful break.

As previous reviews, an excellent site and staff.
The exit off the northbound A19 is getting very bumpy ( not the sites fault) and the approach road is narrow but with passing places (useful as we met two large removal trucks when leaving. Coped with our large unit) once on site you could be miles from anywhere. Great views huge pitches around the lake where we were. Very friendly helpful staff and nothing too much trouble.
Good info hut and very clean toilet block. Good recycling bins.
Fantastic walks from site and close to lots of attractions but it was so peaceful we didn't move for the 3 days we were there. We don't often return to sites but this was our second trip here and could well not be our last especially as it is only an hour from home. Traffic and bumpy road allowing

The overview
This site is located just off the A19, in a village called Knayton, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. It is a huge site (in terms of dimensions). To get to the site you come off the A19 basically turn right and follow the road. Having been caught out with access to some sites before, I now always use google street view to check out access and was a little concerned about the last mile or so of single track road. We never had a problem as passing places are regularly spaced for cars but should caravan meet caravan it could be interesting.
Once at the site it is very evident that a lot of time, effort & money are being put into this business as the building works show. The entrance gate is a big old five bar steel gate (electric of course) which we were buzzed through (you get card to use once booked in). We were greeted very warmly and taken to our pitch and guided onto a drive through pitch. Couldn't be easier.
The owners are really friendly and helpful. From giving info on local walks, lending aerial cables or even including us in the easter egg hunt (we don't have kids but they didn't want us to be left out).
The site is a huge array of well kept grass with simple roads (without potholes) and gravel hard standings. Each pitch is given loads of room and has its services well situated. Our pitch had the usual water and electric, however the extras we found really good - not just grey water disposal but black as well, a second tap rinsing cassettes out, tv aerial point(As we discovered, get or make, a good quality aerial cable. Don't get a £4 one from a cheap shop), and being shown which trip switch turns the light off on the services pillar (A tiny point but those lights can be really annoying).
Now we are set up and ready for action what niggles and don't likes were there - well to be honest not a lot. The fact that you get a key for the toilet block seems a little odd, one key so only one person can go at a time, its not like the showers are going to get invaded from other tourists, although it may stop children from running a muck in them though. That's it for the not so positives.
The bonus points come from: having pitch specific black water disposal. The toilets are always clean and tidy. The site is very clean and well presented. Each pitch as more than enough space. The kids area seemed to be well used which kept them away from other pitches. The views from the site are spectacular. We were there over easter and it was sunny and bright (yes that 1in100 bank holiday) the pitches got a bit of a breeze but nothing untoward. The pond/lake is a nice picturesque area. There is a small 'information' hut that was well stocked with everything you need to know. Excellent recycling area set up, shame that some people can't be bothered to us them properly. The site is very quiet even though it is only a mile from the A19. All in all an excellent site. Peaceful and tranquil yet in an excellent spot to go and explore the local area and beyond. During our stay we went to Durham, Whitby and Eden camp.

What a find!
We had booked onto hillside site for the half term holidays and could not have asked for more.
The pitches are the best we have seen, gravel area with enough room for 2 vans and pace between the vans. The pitch has it's own facilities which make hook up a breeze.
The owners could not have been more helpful, offering advice when needed and directions to nearby amenities.
A definite star destination.

Wasn't quite sure what to expect when we booked this site as it is only just off the A19, but what a lovely surprise, the site just outside of Knayton, over a mile to the pub, is set in lovely countryside with beautiful views.
We were pitched with a number of caravans with family's but with large pitches and a large play area for the children across a grassed area away from the pitches it was lovely and peaceful.
The site has more pitches away from the toilet facilities, which are to say the least enormous, room for 4.
The toilets are spotless, a very well kept site.
We will return.

Just got from a weekend at Hillside Caravan Park and was pleasantly surprised. We have just bought a small caravan and wanted somewhere local to try it out, we seen this park on UKCampsite. Co. Uk and the reviews are spot on, toilets washing up area and laundry are spotlessly clean. All hardstanding pitches are huge, nothing is to much bother for these people, water tv ariel electric and elsan are all on your own pitch. Nice pub, the Dog and Gun, about a mile and a half from site. A very narrow road up to site but lots of passing places for on coming traffic. Nice walks for dogs. Enjoyed it so much going back in a months time cant wait.
