 Spent a few days at this site with my teenage daughter. Very nice surroundings and camp owners are very friendly. Toilet/shower/dish washing blocks are all clean, a little dated perhaps but all work very well. There is an on site cafe but no shop. A short walk down the lane brings you to a very nice country pub which serves meals, whilst a 15 min walk into hope village gives you a Spar, post office ATM and a couple more pubs and restaraunts.
All in all a very pleasant site at reasonable prices. Will return again very soon.

I have been at this campsite since I was about 10 years old and I liked it every time I now take my family to the same place and thay think its great as well I have even told most of my friends about this place. I would recommend it to anybody and they do a great breakfast in the morning we are going this year for as many times as possible.There is a lot of places to go to from this site. YOU HAVE TO GO ITS GREAT FUN.

We had a great stay here. The views were stunning and there was a no-fuss feel to everything. Booking in was easy, there was plenty of space and it was flat and easy to pitch.
It did get busy on the Saturday and I was worried that it was going to be a noisy night but everyone heeded the no noise after 11pm rule and there were no problems.
Yes, the toilet floors were muddy but they worked and had toilet paper, so no real problems.
I would definitely stay here again, there was easy access to the sights, a pub in easy reach, a great little cafe and surrounded by amazing countryside - a perfect weekend!

Hardhurst Farm campsite is on a quiet country road just off the main road to castleton from Hope. There is a pub about a 5 minute walk from the campsite, although we never actually went into it, it seemed a nice place. The shops are about 1/2 mile from the campsite and the spar is open until 10 most nights. There is also a Chinese just after the Spar down the the road a bit. There is also a chipshop in Castleton but it closes at 6pm.
I was a bit worried about the train noise after reading about the line that runs alongside the campsite, but once we were there and after the first few trains had gone by, we hardly noticed them at all during the stay, we got used to them rattling along.
The campsite facilities are a little basic, there is a toilet block for both men and women, but there is only a single shower for men and women to use and the men’s shower is in the men’s toilets. There is a cafeé onsite but it is only open in the mornings. There is also 2 sinks for washing pots in and also a drinking tap to fill up water containers.
The prices for camping are reasonable, we had 3 adults and 2 children and 2 tents for 2 nights. We were charged £25. It was £3.50 per adult a night and £1 for children under the age of 16 per night.
Apart from the train noise and the sheep noise, the site was great, it had plenty of room for tents and plenty of room for caravans. The camping field is almost flat unless you camp right on the edge near the bottom of the field, then it has a slight slope.
The owners of the farm were very helpful and were always on hand if you needed anything.
It might be worth booking before you go though, as I did, because when we went the ‘no room, bookings only’ sign was up by the gate every day we were there. It didn't’t seem to be full, apart from in the caravan part of the campsite, there was still quite a lot of open space on the camping field. Cars are also allowed to stay next to your tent and they allow you to pitch anywhere you want too on the camping field. I think if you want electric hook up for the tent, they show you a pitch to go to in the caravan area.
There is a no noise policy after 11pm at night and we had no problems with noise both nights, apart from wind noise and the odd sheep baa.
Whilst we were there, my sisters made friends with the sheep in the next field. There are a couple sheep that were always at the fence wanting to be fussed and given the nice juicy grass from the other side of the fence.
To sum it up, the campsite was great and it has reasonable prices, so I would go back there.

Stayed for two nights at Hardhurst Farm, camping with two families and 4 children between us. Firstly, the negatives;
(a) Rubbish overflowing from the two large bins adjacent to the toilet block.
(b) Gent's toilets were terrible - both in condition and cleanliness. I mopped them myself at the end of the second day because it appeared no-one else was going to bother. My wife informs me that the Ladies were much better
(c) There is a train line right at the back of the camping field so there is some noise from passing trains - I would say around 10 - 12 per day.
On the positive side,
(a) The setting is lovely Great views of Win Hill and Lose Hill, and right up the east of the Hope Valley.
(b) Plenty of room in the camping field - perfect for our little ones to run about - you could just pitch where you want.
(c) Handy for Mam Tor, Castleton, Hathersage - great site for hillwalking.
(d) Local pub - The Traveller's Rest - is pretty good - nice beer, perfectly adequate food, very well maintained play area with loads of seating - and made us welcome - despite our gaggle of toddlers.
(e) It was quiet - no parties, gangs of "yoofs" - except us.
We'd certainly go back again - with some attention to detail from the owners this would really be a superb site.

I have now been to this site a few times, most recently this weekend. I would recommend this site to anyone who wanted a small, quiet and friendly site for caravans or tents. The toilets are a short walk from the pitches and I have always found them to be clean and tidy. There is hot water available for washing the pots. The site owners are friendly and helpful.
The pub the site sits behind is a nice and friendly pub with plenty of seating outside and a play area with slide, swings etc for the children.
The campsite itself has a lovely view and it is ideally located for plenty of scenic walks. There are plenty of shops 5 minutes down the road by car.
It cost us £12.50 a night for the caravan, four people, awning, dog and electric hook up. We were not asked how many people were staying or how big our outfit was and never have been asked. It has always been the same price regardless. Even though dogs are allowed on the site they were all kept on leads, as requested, and there has never been any dog mess left that we have seen.
This is an excellent little site that I will return to again and again.

This is a great campsite, one of the best I have been to in a long time.
The pitch prices are Cheap and so are the prices in the on-site cafe which does brilliant cooked breakfast.
It is only a short walk from Hope Train Station and is very quiet. There is a lot of wildlife, you will find your self watching birds flying about and we also had a visit from a hedgehog.
I will be going again soon

Lovely owners, make you feel very welcome. Cafe is great for a bit of pre-climbing hot grub! The train line does run right next to one side of the campsite and the one shower can be busy and grubby. But overall, very cheap, good location, great cafe and quiet at night.

We have just returned from a stay at Hardhurst Farm over the Bank Holiday weekend. We stayed for Saturday and Sunday night in tents and bought 2 cars along. Despite the fact it was Bank Holiday the campsite was not overcrowded by any means. It was apparently full booked but we had plenty of space in the second field to park cars and set up camp. This was nice compared to other sites where we have been shunted and squeezed between neighbouring tents.
The rates were extremely reasonable at £7.00 per tent + car per night. Facilities at this campsite are basic, but quite enough for the no-frills experience. The ladies toilets were clean and functional, a full length mirror plus a space at the end with a table for either baby changing or putting your stuff onto while you get ready. They are not too far to walk either!
Although we didn't find it to be a problem, there is only 1 shower at this campsite for males and females each. My experience of the ladies shower was ok. It was always very hot water and there is plenty of room to get ready (although you do feel rushed because often there are people waiting). However the only not very nice thing about the shower was the floor, it was filthy and covered in hair - yuck! There is a mop and bucket outside but the water in it was dirtier than the floor. I think the owners would do well to place some matting down in there, ladies bring flip flops!
The campsite is surrounded by beautiful scenery. Win Hill, which a great viewing point once you reach the top, sits behind the campsite. Nearby Hathersage is a nice village and I would recommend a meal at the Scotsmans Pack - drive to the Sheffield side of the village and take a left (its signposted).
Overall I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone for a great value, simple camping experience.

We stayed at Hardhurst Farm for 6 nights over Easter 2007 in our tent.
Downsides -- they are right next to the train line. The ladies shower (only one) is shabby.
Upsides -- they are quite inexpensive compared to other campsites. The owners are lovely. There is a tea shop that's open 5 mornings a week with very reasonably priced breakfasts. They're within easy walking distance of a pub. If you come on the train, they're about a 15 minute walk from Hope train station. Free showers with plenty of hot water.
Overall -- would definitely stay there again. We chose them this Easter because we had some extra kids with us and couldn't really afford to stay anywhere else. But we had a great time and enjoyed being there. I understand they're converting one of their farm buildings into better showers which will be a great improvement.
