We have just returned from a 2 night winter break and were really impressed with the site. We had stayed there previously but this was before the new shower block and it was also summertime. The new shower block is so fab and warm that I could have stayed in there all day! It looks like a very fancy lodge and inside is all natural wood and muted colours. There is a wet room in both male and female rooms and 2 disabled wet rooms that can be accessed straight from outside, through a wide door. The radiator was kept warm all day, regardless of the few people on site and the showers were hot. Birds were constantly feeding outside our van and the whole site was peaceful. I think the site now has more hardstandings than before and this was very handy in the winter! The site is very close to Castle Drogo and the wonderful Fingle Bridge (walks and pub); Chagford village is ten minutes away by car and has a Spar and pubs that take dogs and serve good meals. There is also a great river walk from the village and people are always very friendly. This site has come a long way since our last visit and we shall definitely be coming back again in the spring. Well done to Jan and Chris!

We got back yesterday after spending three nights at this camp site. The site had some grassed areas and some covered in hardcore and gravel. We unfortunately were on a gravel pitch. We had trouble moving the caravan onto the gravel and difficulty pegging down the awning. (A couple with a camper van had to be pushed off the gravel having got stuck). As to sitting out in the sun we looked rather foolish as if we were sitting out on a building site. I can understand why the gravel was laid to avoid flooding but it adds nothing to the general pretty appearance of the camp site.
The couple who owned the site were very helpful (they found a pitch for my son who was joining us for a night) They always seemed busy around the site and helped out.
The site is very peaceful, dark and quiet at night. The toilet blocks are relatively clean but not nearly big enough for the size of the site. A cabin next door to the toilets provided a coffee machine (reasonable priced) and use of a freezer.
The site is fine if you have a car and is easy access to areas in Dartmoor or a little bit further to the coast. There are no amenities within walking distance.
I would return to this camp site but ask for a grassed pitch.

A lovely quiet site, particularly useful for us as we were in a small tent only staying for one night, was the coffee machine and freezer located in the well stocked information cabin near the recycling facilities. (Great stuff, I'm all for recycling!) Another picnic bench may be useful for tenters too.
A peaceful and beautiful stay, would recommend it to all.

Stayed here for 7 nights and quite honestly it was not enough!
On arrival we were given lots of info on the surrounding area which was compiled by Jan and Chris.
A lovely adults only site the first we have stayed on. Chris and Jan are so helpful and their little shop was adequately stocked the fresh bread cooked by them absolutely fab and the prices were excellent. The toilet/shower block was really clean. The dog exercise field was of a nice area for those that had dogs that could be trusted to run free - just sad that some owners couldnt pick up after their dogs but Jan could be seen up there with a bucket picking up after the LAZY ones! The pitch we were on was of a good size and being a German caravan - YES they do accept german vans on this site no problem, we were facing onto a lovely clearing which was frequented by so many types of birds and also the squirrels it was lovely sitting of an afternoon and evening just watching the wildlife.
The Kennels that are on the site are superb if you want a day away without your four-legged friend and with a constant supply of water to the kennel no need to worry about Fido running out of drinking water!
Also on site is a little cabin where lots of tourist information can be found and a coffee machine.
Plenty to do in the local area lovely walks and not to far from Trago Mills. We spent a day over at Princetown where we visited the Dartmoor Prison Museum well worth the £2.50 entrance fee and also had a meal in the Old Police House Cafe which was really nice all home cooked and very tasty.
Was really sorry to leave this Gem in Dartmoor and will definitely be going back.
Well done Chris and Jan look forward to coming back and seeing your upgraded toilet / shower block in the not too distant future!
Superb site fantastic welcome and all with a GERMAN caravan!

We were very pleased with this site and had an enjoyable stay despite the wet bank holiday weather.
Our pitch had plenty of space for our Montana 4 and was separated from neighbouring pitches with trees which gave us some privacy.
The owners provide a helpful guide when you arrive detailing local shops, services and eateries. One of their recommendations is a nearby fish and chip shop - be aware this is not open on Sundays or BH Mondays which unfortunately we found out only after we'd driven there.
The on site shop stocks a small range of useful essentials, and you can pre-order baked bread and pastries.
The site is very close to the NT's Castle Drogo (which does good cream teas) and about six miles away is Moretonhampstead which has good amenities. It is also only an hour away from the Eden Project which is very handy when it's wet!
Unfortunately there is no pub or restaurant within walking distance (the nearest one has shut down).
The facilities were a little basic, but clean and functional with good shower temperature and pressure. We never had to queue. There is a hairdryer which costs 20p - it is not very powerful but lasted ages so I was still able to dry my long hair. The facilities were pretty dark though as the lights were on timers and were often off when you needed them. This is my only criticism - I think the owners should keep them on when the weather is dreary.
We were very happy we chose this site and at £15 a night, it was excellent value for money and plan to return.

Our second outing to an Adults Only site.
Very impressed with this site and the location was perfect for trips to Dartmoor and for us to pursue our hobby of Geocaching. The shower block was very clean, the site was very well kept and tidy with large pitches, lovely surroundings and plenty of birds to wake us.
There is so much to see and do locally that you really do need to spend a nice long break here.
Jan and Chris are such a lovely couple, nothing is too much trouble and they are so helpful.
They now do fresh baked rolls and bread in the shop, provided you order the day before, which go down very nicely with some fresh cooked bacon in the morning.
Only problem is that some campers/caravaners seem to have a problem using the site's 'Recycling facility' which means that the owners often have to scavenge through the bins to sort what others haven’t. If they can make the effort sort the different rubbish then so should we.
I noticed that somebody commented on the fact that ball type games are not allowed but I must say that this only enhances the site in my opinion and allows for restful serenity which is why I decided to go 'Adults Only' in the first place.
If you want peace and quiet then I would heartily recommend this site.

We stayed at this site as it was adults only and we fancied something peaceful - we weren't disappointed!
Nice, flat layout with marked pitches, lovely hedgerows to provide screening, and not too crowded. We had blistering hot weather on our first day which sadly disappeared, but there is plenty to do in the local area if you like nature and touring, it's a great location, fairly central.
Showers and toilets OK, although there are lots and lots of notices about what you can and can't do, which I found a bit offputting! Quite a queue for the washing up sinks, but this seemed to be due each day to certain men 'showing their wives how to do the washing up properly!' and taking ages to wash one fork! I suppose it's a novelty for them!
Peaceful, tidy, site, good for dogs. No games allowed which puzzled us, as adults we felt we could be trusted to play responsibly, so we had a sneaky game of badminton on a neighbouring empty pitch! I was disappointed that other campers were unable to use the recycling facilities properly - there were several bins clearly labelled yet each day the owners had to sort through them as people were dumping rubbish in them and mixing up the recycling - throwing used food onto recycling and just throwing all types of rubbish in is not helpful or nice for someone else to have to sort out.
My partner found it too remote and quiet, the pub is a 15 minute walk but the lanes are dark and narrow so we took our car, but the Post Inn was fabulous and we have been back to it en-route to other locations as the food was very reliable.
I recommend this site if you want quiet, peaceful surroundings.

Only stayed here for one night as was working in the area at the time.
Very friendly clean site with a great warm welcome considering I turned up late.
Central located toilet/shower block, again well kept and maintained.
The selling point for me was the adults only rule, I have nothing against children but considering I had to be up early and needed a good nights sleep this was ideal for me.
Only downside to this site would be the nearest pub for food and drink is a 30 minute walk with speeding traffic forcing you to drive unless walking is for you. Would return.

Our first time at an adults only site and can't wait to go back. We were really impressed with this site, the location was perfect. The shower block was very clean, the site was very clean and tidy with large pitches, lovely surroundings and only birds to wake us up. This site is perfect for nature lovers with lots of new planting, bird feeders and even recycling bins and lots of lovely walks nearby. Jan and Chris are the perfect hosts, nothing is to much trouble and they are always happy to help with anything you may need. Looking forward to returning and as this a great place for dogs we will take our Basset Hound next time.

We stayed for the Easter holiday this year, having visited the site on two previous occasions since September 2004. Whilst it is situated only an hour from our home we love visiting this very friendly and clean site as it gives us easy access to Dartmoor. The owners of the site Jan and Chris have worked very hard over the years to make it as popular as it is, and cannot do enough to make you feel welcome. The facilities are basic but kept extremely clean, and there is constant hot water for the showers. The washing up facilities could do with some upgrading and we are sure this will be on the agenda for the future! The dog walk is very handy and there is a very useful stock of essentials at reception now such as milk, eggs etc. A friendly site with all the advantages of location.
