Spent Easter at this site with my husband, two 16 year olds and the dog and we all had a great time. The site is set in truly breathtaking surroundings - we were on field five and the views are magnificent. There's also a quaint, narrow gauge steam railway running alongside and the drivers are prone to give you a toot as they pass! The toilet/shower block is absolutely spotless with free, lovely hot showers in large cubicles. The bins are emptied regularly throughout the day and recycling bins are provided. The pitches are well maintained and very spacious. There is a small shop on site which sells the essentials, the laundry, games room and TV lounge are all very clean and well looked after. The dog walk is large and takes in the river, our dog loved a good dip after a frantic run around the field! It's really handy for Caernarfon town, the beach at Dinas and plenty of really nice walks across the fields or of course up the mountain! Just one problem we experienced - the electricity on our field kept going off but the warden did his best to make sure it was quickly restored. If you go to this site the Sunday carvery/lunch at the Newborough Arms is not to be missed - delicious. Ask at the shop and they'll give you directions (literally 10 mins drive). We will definitely return here and highly recommend you try it out if you're looking to visit North Wales.

Wow! This site was stunning. If you love walking, or climbing, or horseriding, or little steam trains, or fishing, moutaineering, or maybe just sitting outside your caravan eating breakfast watching the sun rise through the mountain peaks and feeling it warm your skin in breathtaking surroundings, with clean air filling your lungs you must visit this site. We were in field five, fully serviced pitch and even though I live in a beautiful country village, surrounded by pretty hills and countryside, I could not get over the beauty of the snowdownia foothills, nor the immaculate site . Showers and loos were immaculate, warm and of a good standard of decor, the site was beautifully maintained, had a good dogwalking area and even had riverside barbecue spots. Picnic tables were dotted around the camping fields and the shop was very reasonably priced and well stocked. The little tourist train runs alongside (not loud enough to be a nuisance) and the site has myriad footpaths leading from it. It was so nice I am seriously considering cancelling my summer Switzerland trip and going there instead!

June 2004 Generally a nice clean site, although toilet/shower block not very clean. I visited one morning at 6.30 p.M. And they were very dirty, at 8.30 they still had not been cleaned. A man popped his head in, looked around and said, yes looks like they do need a clean, I presume someone may have complained, but would expect a regular early morning clean.
I feel it is a bit expensive, bearing in mind facilities, although children loved boating on the river.
Lots of insect bites if you pitch near river, but did not seem to affect all of site.
Apologies to anyone in field 6 on 10th/11th June, the rest of our party were a bit loud!
We had some lovely weather.
Snowdonia pub nearby seems to be popular with the French! A lot of these people were celebrating England losing to France.
Probably would not visit again, planning our next visit to Yorkshire and subsequently Anglesey, natives are more friendly!
Although, as low season must say warden was more than happy for us to spend our last day on site, no need to rush off at 12 noon. Thank you.

We were originally booked to go with in laws, them in static us with tourer but at last minute in laws had to pull out so we had static.Owners allowed us to use our deposit against cost of static so that was good! Had good look around site with view to bringing tourer again quite big seemed to be lots of showers etc at first glance but when you see map has over 300 pitches could get very busy ! most pitches had water and waste but couldn't see any elsan points? So how does the site rate? Clean , well maintained, helpful staff, entry barrier with code good! Caravan we had was 2/4 yrs old showing signs of wear , loo door lock broke as was blind on window , frying pan seen better days! Had to take off quilt covers and use own then put them back on when you left???? very strange as not much storage for own things! Shop pretty empty( but we did go week kids started back) said open til 7 but it wasn't ( changed sign Thur pm, 4 days into stay ) Small playground usual clapped out fergie tractor one little swing but plenty of wasps. Plenty of shops short drive away plus great chip shop where food is cooked to order! This might seem like a negative review its not that this isn't a good site just that I don't think it deserves title of best campsite or can justify the prices they charge. To sum up , clean site , helpful staff, nice area to use as base for further exploring but no wow factor to back up advertising

Gorgeous views but in a really vulnerable spot for wind. We had to abandon after 1 night due to irreparable damage to our tent, even though it was an expensive tent which has stood up to strong winds elsewhere. Every tent on the site seemed to be flattened. We were with 3 other families, all of which had to leave due to collapsed & damaged tents/ folding campers. Beware!

Wonderful site. Worth the money. Having stayed there before I knew exactly what to expect, and it's so nice to see that some sites are kept at consistently high standards. We managed to pick out a quiet area on field 3 to pitch the 9 person tent, with plenty of room to store the leisure trailer and park the 4x4. We could have had hookup if we wanted as most pitches have this facility. The only bad thing was the weather. We had to cut our stay short as a force 5 gale managed to blow the tent into oblivion (at least somewhere over wales). Toilet block and showers maintained to very high standards, laundry and washing up facilities more than adequate. Well stocked shop with everything you need and reasonably priced too. Games and TV room should you need it but most of us like to go out to enjoy the scenery. Quality site will definitely visit again, though not with the tent.

We had a great holiday here. Site is level and we had a large pitch. Our son loved the river for fishing and paddling. Very central for many attractions. Lovely walks and bike rides locally. Toilets and showers always clean. Small shop with essentials - Supermarkets only a short drive away. Would advise using awning strap and gravel pegs etc. Because wind can be very strong.

All in all we had a pleasant holiday, although I did think that the toilet / shower block in field 3 could have been a lot better. They were tiny, consisting of 3 toilets, 2 showers and 4 tiny sinks that you could only wash one hand at a time because the water didn't stay on long enough! There was also only one pot washing sink in the block for the people in field 3. The toilets' flushes were a little hit and miss and one didn't have a lock on it, so most of the time we had to walk to the really nice block in field 2. The showers in there were twice as big (although not very powerful) and there were sinks in cubicles. I considered using the family bathroom as my youngest is not too keen on showers, but decided against it when I discovered that you have to pay £2 for a key code and a further £1 to use it! I used the laundrette on one occasion, but had to wait quite a while as only the smaller of the two washing machines was working. The small shop on site was ok, but expensive. We travelled to the Morrisons in Caernarfon every few days to buy everything we needed. Our tent withstood a lot of wind and rain, though some others didn't, so make sure you keep your ropes and pegs tight! The area itself was lovely, and the views on a sunny morning are fantastic, with the clouds climbing the hills and then disappearing. The little playground for the kids was ok except for one day when a lot of little tents were pitched around it. Even with the little things that niggled us, we had a very enjoyable holiday.

This is a fantastic site. All pitches are numbered and have ample space for a tent and a car. The site is well maintained with a decent sized toilet/shower block that is kept very clean. All sinks are in cubicles which is nice as it gives you privacy when washing in the mornings. Our children loved playing in the river that runs alongside the site whilst we sat and watched at the waters edge. Another attraction for the children was the steam train that runs alongside the site. They liked to run and wave to the train driver and passengers whenever it came past. The scenery is beautiful and I would even say breathtaking. We had such a great time that we booked to stay for an extra night. We are looking forward to visiting again this year.

Just had a great weekend here, the weather was fantastic and is forecast to be the same again this weekend so we have booked to go back. The kids had a good time fishing the river with nets, wouldn't recommend the mini golf at £2.40 for one club and a couple of manky plastic balls (one of which was already split). We stayed on field 3, and as others have said, the portacabin toilets are not the best, we used the ones in the other field which are much better with large showers. We had a pitch with electric which was £16 plus £2 each for the 3 kids & £1 for the dog, total £23 per night.
