Just returned from four nights at this great site. We don't have hook up so we usually end being told to pitch anywhere in a field, at Hidden Valley you're allocated a pitch. We were next to the children's play area which was great for our little girl. Toilet block was immaculate with hot water whenever we used them. Don't know if it's down to the other reviews but there is now a shower curtain separating the wet and dry areas. The water points were also plentiful, looked to be about one every other pitch.
Used the on-site restaurant one night when it was raining and the food was basic but plentiful and tasty.
The beaches around this area are great, we sampled Croyde and Woolacombe. Took notice of the suggested back road to the beaches but I must point out that these roads are very narrow with few passing places and could be quite unnerving.
We were recommended The Rock at Georgeham by Reception as good for pub food and they were correct. Obviously well known as it was very busy. If you've got children I'd recommend getting there for 6.30 (when they start serving food).
We enjoyed this site and area so much we will be visiting again next year.

We have just returned from staying at this site. It was nice to arrive and be given a clear map of the site with your pitch marked on it. The pitch was clearly marked out and huge, we have a very large 3 bedroom tent and had plenty of room, because it was all clearly marked you knew exactly what was your area. The facilities were excellent, nice to have all enclosed washing/toilet areas. Each toilet was in a cubicle with a sink, so you could wash in private. The showers and toilets were really clean. We went to the quiz night on the Tuesday evening, which was good fun, and they don't charge, you are just asked to buy raffle tickets to raise money for the local childrens hospice. The setting is really lovely, the only thing that let it down was the fact that it is close to the main road, which if you don't wear ear plugs could be a problem. Apart from that, and the terrible traffic between the site and Barnstaple, we could not fault it.

We have stayed here several times and always loved the site, The setting is beautiful but yes the main road does wake you up first thing in the morning. Our main gripe with this site is some of the pitches are very small, when you book you are asked the size of your caravan, and only having a small van we have always found ourselves on pitches where parking the car out of everyone elses way is a problem. In future we will be booking in a 22ft twin axle just so we get a decent sized pitch. Other than that, the staff are friendly, facilities are clean and the new showers very warm and much better than the old. The bar is ok and there is a games room and toy room for the younger kids which ours loved.

We spent some time at Hidden Valley during the last week of August. Writing this whilst still there. We were sited in the lower field (for tents) on a 'super size' pitch. I must say that the site is very layed out with a great pitch size - some were even larger, many smaller. Water is on the pitch itself and there is an electric hook up. But there are downsides. The show block was dirty - really bad. I campaigned just after someone else and the attitude was ' well I check the showers and they were clean ! I went on to explain that the upvc seats in the shower looked like they had never been cleaned. Mold (black and orange) in the grout and a permanently black tiled floor. Add to this, the site cost £300 for 9 nights and you can understand our dissatisfaction. They also said the toilet blocks would be refurbished at the end of the year BUT if they are not cleaned then a dark blue walled surface (the caravan field already has refurb'ed showers) wont help ! The other problem is road noise of cars lorries ands buses on the nearby road.
All in all a mixed bag that is expensive and poorly serviced.

Read AndyVines comments and I can say ditto. I only had to travel 40 miles but just wanted to get away for the weekend, we had to move pitches and ended up on No.33 and had our side door facing the ladies loo. If anyone had further to travel, this is an excellent site to get around. Ilfracombe, Watermouth, Combe Martin in easy reach one way, woolacombe morthoe for bathing Barnstaple and Bideford Westward Hoe such a lot to see and do. I was talking to a fellow VW owner and he travels all the way down to this neck of the woods to have his van serviced. Say's the chap in Barnstable's the best VW mechanic around!

Have just returned from a week on this site and we had a wonderful time. We travelled the five hour journey at night (children sleeping in the car - much easier!) and were able to pitch up for the night on the site car park at no cost ! This made things very easy. The car park is large, and beautifully landscaped around the edge - there was plenty of room for ourselves and the two other caravans that stayed the night there too. A member of staff came and knocked on our door in the morning once reception was open and we enjoyed bacon butties in the coffee shop before going to our pitch. The pitch itself was beautiful (No.21). It was fully serviced, so no fetching water all week, which was great. There was a babbling brook alongside the caravan, and a large "garden" area behind our awning. I'm glad we weren't on the top terrace though, as this had the A361 running alongside it. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The pitches were all immaculate. Our daughter loved the play area. The cream teas were excellent ! Showers were very clean, but I would agree with Andy Vines in that they could do with a curtain to separate wet and dry areas. The bathroom was good too, as our 5 year old and 1 year old are not happy in showers, and needed a good "dunk" after a day on the beach. A word of warning - on the way to the excellent beaches at Saunton, Putsborough and Croyde try to avoid the heavy traffic in Braunton - you'll be stuck at those traffic lights for ages. Instead, turn right out of the site onto the A361, and then take a right turn through North Buckland and follow all the back roads to the coast. We would definitely use this stie again - we loved it.

We Came here for the Easter weekend with our 2 children and 2 dogs. What a lovely site, very picturesque, it really is in a Hidden Valley. The Reception / Shop was small but had all the basics - Who needs a supermarket you should come prepared. We didn't use the bar but I'm sure it was nice. The Staff were very nice and welcoming. There was a lovely walk around the site in the woods, and along the beautiful stream, and the kids play area was small but good. I would recommend this site to anyone. We will definitely use it again.

Have been to this site 4 or 5 times, because after the first time thought it was a very nice site, However, after our last stay thought we would share some niggles that we had. The top toilet block has been refurbed since our last visit, looks very nice, but could do with a hook on the toilet cubicle doors, as no where to put your coat. Also the shower design looks clever, but still would benefit from a internal curtain between the wet and dry areas, and the hot water seemed to take ages to get going. Our main problem though was fresh water, we have a small campervan with on board water tank, we carry a 5 meter length of hose to fill the tank and due to the position of the taps and not being allowed to drive on the grass, could not actually reach our tap for the pitch, we had to drive around the site to find a pitch to pull onto that would let our hose reach, that was ok while we were there as the site was not busy, when full we would have been reduced to fetching water in bottles, allthough they have a wastewater dump for motorcaravans there was no fresh water tap???

Easy to find and well signposted but approach from the North if possible due to severe congestion in Barnstaple. On site the reception is large with attached restaurant and bar (open infrequently). The bus into Ifracombe leaves from directly outside the site- good for the pub and nights out and the site is well kept and very friendly. The facilities are quite new and very clean and the grounds are tended to every day. The bottom field where we were is quite a long walk from the shop etc but spacious pitches more than made up for that. Reasonably priced and within striking distance of all the key Devon coastal attractions. Excellent site.

We found the site to be as described in other reviews with the exception of the children's play area which left a lot to be desired, however the site in general was very nice and we did enjoy our stay. We just felt that a little money should be spent on improving the play area to make it more appealing. Good location but some pitches a bit difficult to get on properly with a twin axle caravan.
