This is an amazing site, extremely picturesque where ever you pitch up, it is a very quiet site with lovely walks.
We have stayed here many times in our own tents but this time were very lazy & opted to rent one of the Cabanon Eurocamp Espace tents on site as it was our little ones first camping trip & we wanted some of the hassle taken of us! Great but will def take our own Cabanon next time.
The facilities are spotless (baby changing room, toilets, showers).
The kids playground is really good & our little one had it to herself everyday!
There is a shop on site which is fine for basics but a trip into Beddgelert or Portmadog is best.
There was a midge problem which I believe is common place in June so just be aware they will eat you alive!
Site staff are all really helpful & friendly.

A beautiful site with various types of pitches, some among trees, others on open field. There were electrical hook up pitches and places for caravans or mobile homes. The facilities are very good, a decent sized toilet / shower block plus other smaller units at other locations within the site. These were all kept clean and tidy. There is an on site shop, which sells food, camping equipment and rents DVDs too! There is also a 'common room' with TV and comfy seats with a Rangers cabin next door.
There is a very good children's play park, with wooden 'forts' and climbing frame type of equipment - all on a soft wood-chipped safety surface.
The staff were very friendly and helpful in the upmost, even giving advice on local attractions to go and visit.
Most pitches within the trees have a flat level centre, but outside this area it's common for it to be less so - making it difficult on a lot of pitches to place a large family tent without some careful thinking. A lot of pitches had very stony ground so tough pegs were required (We used Delta Ground Anchors for the worst bits and they worked well).
Water temperature in the showers was very hot in the mornings, to the point of discomfort my wife thought. Later on in the day they didn't seem so bad. They are free however! Maybe they should look to fitting some sort of thermostat (or checking the one they have) to regulate the temperature?
Beddgelert is literally a mile down the road (checked it in the car one evening!) and there are several pubs (serving meals - into the evening). There are also two Fish & Chip bar / restaurants - but they seemed to close at 5:30pm which was a pain at tea time.
Now for the bad news - it may be due to the recent weather or the time of year, but most of the site was plagued by biting midges. So much so that we found it uncomfortable to sit outside on most evenings (when the kids are tucked up in bed). Even with strong midge repellent (Jungle Formula) they were so incessant that after 5 minutes we retreated into the tent every night.
Without the midge issues, the site would have been fantastic - beautiful to look at, comfortable to live in and not too bad on the wallet / purse! A shame that those pesky insects spoiled the break for us really.

As with previous comments, this site is in a beautiful position and the facilities are very good. But, the midge issue is a major factor. Not just a few annoying little insects but a swarm of biblical proportions, we were covered in them. Within an hour of us pitching (Friday 3 pm) six other families pitched within 50 yards of us and the whole site was filling very quickly. By 7 pm we were all fighting off the midges. Cooking was near impossible outside the tent, the tents were full of them. Insect repellent on on sale at the site was as much use as a chocolate frying pan, in fact I think they (the midges) actually liked it. So we, and everyone else ended up prisoners in out tents. A trip up to the toilet / shower block was a test of resolve and ingenuity. People were arriving with towels, blankets etc. Over their heads, and one man who had his head in his rucksack will have a nasty bruise after cracking his shins on a bench. The scene was farcical. Wherever you looked people were running, swatting the air and themselves.
The next morning we were away from the site early to do some sightseeing. When we arrived back the tents nearby had all gone even though we know that at least some of the others were planning to stay 2 nights or more.
We stuck it out until Sunday morning, when the midges were worse than ever. As we were leaving I went to the reception to ask why there was no mention of the midge problem when booking, on arrival or on their website. Whilst waiting to speak to someone they happily checked in a family with no mention of the problem so I brought the subject up and was met with a Tessa Jowell like grin. The manager duly arrived in a full anti-insect netting suit (he'd been down to the camping pitches). After disrobing himself he asked me ''did you not research North Wales before you came'', and '' it's nature'' as if all of N Wales has the problem. I replied that I live in North Wales and have never seen anything like this. The attitude was a shrug of the shoulders.

We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday prior to the schools holidays. The site was very full and we found only 2 spaces where we could pitch.
Option 1: Mid campsite squeezed between many others by the play area
Option 2: Down on the low field by the river.
We chose option 2.
There had been rain the week before so we could see where the boggy areas were. Some tents were pitched on very boggy ground on those low fields.
We pitched tightly between 2 others - not the agreed space between pitches but it was that or find another site. The site advised that even when they say they are full Forest Holidays and /or C & C keep booking them in!
However the following day many tents moved on and we were left with a spacious pitch.
The kids could play in the river (right by our tent).
There was shelter from trees but open enough to allow air circulation around pitch.
Rabbits and squirrels roam around plus birds are always popping down which the kids and grown ups absolutely loved.
There is a midge issue and they have two of the machines to help cut down the amount. They are located on the upper areas though so I'm not sure how much they benefit the lower fields. However most days there was a breeze which keeps them away so we came home with only average of 6 bites each. I would recommend taking your own midge prevention as the shop sells mosquito coils but was quickly selling out once the sun came out.
Staff: Friendly and helpful.
Facilities: Very Clean.
Downside: They clean the main shower/toilet area at 11am but don't put clear signs out as to where else you can go so people were a little confused and trying to get in whilst they cleaned.
Would recommend that the site looks at how their signage works to someone who is new to site or perhaps speaks poor English / children who cannot read well.
Shop: Stocks a variety of things and all the necessary for camping incidents plus there is a camping shop down the road within walking distance if you have forgotten anything.
Location: Well positioned. You can walk into Beddgerlert but the track isn't great or clear so we came back by the road way.
Beddgelert is a small village but has a general store, fab icecream parlour, yummy home made fudge plus a selection of gift shops and restaurant / pubs. No bakery though as I could see which was a real shame as fresh bread or welsh cakes with welsh butter is the fantastic. A deli selling meats and breads would have been perfect.
Very handy for Snowdon, Porthmadog and my favourite beach there: Criccieth which is quite sheltered making for a safe child friendly beach (and we got to use inflatables which is rare these days).
The train track now runs through the site and you can catch the train from there to Caernarfon or Porthmadog. Each adult can take 1 child FOC so that helps the pocket.
Costs: The campsite is excellent value for money but the tourist attractions were quite ridiculously priced for a family and we saw many families arrive and leave on seeing prices which is a real shame for those attractions.
I would definitely recommend this campsite to families, couples and walkers but just try to avoid the rainy times if you have need a large pitch.

Just come back from the Bank Holiday/ half term week at this site. It was our very 1st time as campers and we loved it. We tried to book for an extra night on the Saturday but because we were on the hook up pitches, they were full. There are only 6 of these for tents so be quick. Only real gripe was the ground, you will definitely need heavy duty rock pegs as there is only about 50mm of soil then rock. Also take a lump hammer, rubber mallet is not much use. Plenty of hot showers, only waited once at tea time. Clean toilets, 6 sinks for washing up, 4 for laundry, 2 washers and driers. Small park for the kids. Easy walk into the village but no paths. 4 pubs, chippy, pizza place ( pricey ), off licence/ grocer, post office, gift shop and kids fave, the ice cream shop! When you go take a decent camera because the scenery through the forest and the surrounding areas is stunning. 8 miles to Porthmadoc with 3 supermarkets. Will be back.

Recently returned back from this great site with my partner and four year old daughter. It was our first experience of a forest holiday, what a fab time we had!We were welcomed by a friendly lady at reception, who gave us a choice of electric hookup pitches. We chose the pitch nearest the steam train track. Our four year old loved waving at the trains as they passed by. The pitch was fairly level, but the ground was very gravelly. This made it quite hard hammering the tent pegs in. Bring heavy duty pegs if using electric hookup pitches. We booked for six nights and it was blissfully quiet, we even had the run of the all the facilities most times. The toilets were immaculate and very well maintained. It was lovely to have your own wash room which enabled you to wash in privacy. The showers were good, push button style. My only fault would be the temperature of the water was a little too hot for our daughter. Our daughter loved the play area, was well equipped, woodchipping making it safe. Washing up facilities were excellent, lovely and clean with no food residue lurking in the plug holes. Beddgelert is a beautiful village with a few touristy shops, a couple of pubs, small convenience store and a fantastic ice-cream shop. All in all we had a great holiday. Would recommend this site, you'll have a break to remember.

We have recently returned from this site after the first bank holiday in May and our first attempt at family camping.
The site itself is very clean and tidy although it was extremely busy. We stayed 2 nights arriving on the Saturday and leaving on the bank holiday Monday. A tent pitch with electric is what was booked. We booked in and shown vaguely were the pitches were which were limited in number. I think 'first up best dressed comes' to mind. A non electric tent had pitched ,so the 6 metre rule was hard to adhere to as it was when a further camper turn up as we were pitching our tent and pitched less than 6 foot away never mind six metres.
Having said that, the issue was resolved by the staff at the site and the tents moved to create a bit more privacy but still cramped.
The play area was brilliant and the access to the forest walk great. Bedgellert is a shortish walk away but with a 5 year old we didn't attempt it and resorted to the car.
Facilities on site were very clean and parent and child room was made available to us.Like having your own private facilities and this was also very clean.
The birds and squirrels kept to themselves and the midges weren't too bad.
The rain on the morning of departure was a bit of a set back but all in all an ok holiday but would like to try site at a less busy and drier time!

This campsite is in a lovely setting, plenty to do in the area, and don't miss the pizza in Beddgelert village - fab! Loos and showers were fine, small park for the kids to play, small shop on site.
Now for the moaning! Not enough hooks (only 1) or any benches in the showers, so annoying when all your stuff drops on a wet floor!
When we arrived we were told to find our own spot, I think the wardens could have been more helpful, as the site is very hilly and the road round it very bumpy and narrow, not great when you are towing a caravan on a site you have never been too. I also booked a hard standing as being Easter I knew the weather might not be good, it was the worst hard standing I have ever been on, more like a mud patch with bit of gravel sprinkled on top, every time we walked in or out we left a mud trail, it got us down so much we ended up going home early, even though we had paid for another night!

Not visited this site for a few years and its still one of the best in North Wales.
Very quiet as you would expect at this time of year. In the gents showers a couple of the cubicles were out of order. In the ladies taps not working in two washing cubicles.
The grass areas etc all kept beautifully as always. A new addition to the site is the Euro Hike permanent tents on the main camping field - possibly not the nicest to look at - but I am sure will be enjoyed by those using.
Overall its a great site - Beddgelert only a shortish walk away. Would be good to have some information on the site as to where the footpaths are that lead to the village - they do exist but wardens weren't sure where they were.

Excellent holiday campsite. We really enjoyed our stay. Good heated and clean toilet and shower blocks. Naturally landscaped with pitches amongst the trees. All modern facilities and well maintained. The shop on the site was handy too. Very helpful and friendly staff. We would recommend booking in advance in the peak season. We will certainly be returning to this site.
