This is only the second time my Wife and I had been away in our new caravan and all I can say is 'WOW!'. Well done to the Hillside, the site is absolutely gorgeous and the location stunning. The Staff made us feel very welcome and although the weather wasn't as welcoming (it rained nearly all the time we were there!) it didn't dampen our spirits one bit! The toilet block is immaculate, underfloor heating and free plentiful hot showers. These are truly the best shower blocks I have EVER come across since we started camping in a tent many years ago. We were there with our friends who had 3 young children in their van and there is a lovely play area for the kids to enjoy. All in all 10/10 for the Hillside, we will definitely be back!

If you are a couple wanting a quiet weekend break then this isnt the site for you. But come Sunday afternoons and weekdays then this is ideal. Peace and quiet with lovely walks and nearby towns for shopping and sightseeing. Come the weekend and school holidays then the site is perfect for families. Although the immenities are new the showers have an interesting waterstream which would benefit from redirection so that everything in the cubicle and outside does not get wet, a good job there is a grate for all the excess water.

This is a fantastic site.
We wanted a week to relax away from work and we loved it.
The toilet block is immaculate with hot showers whatever time of day you go in.
The laundry and pot wash areas are also kept immaculately clean.
On arrival you knock on the farmhouse door and the owners are so friendly and welcoming its a pleasure to arrive.
Everyone is allocated a key to the ameneties block and a swipe card for the gates so theres no kids messing in the toilets and you are very secure.
Each pitch has its own post with water supply, electric hook up, aerial etc so theres no walking to the water taps - its all there for each person.
It has a play area which is not the biggest but the kids in our party were playing all day and exploring the surrounding areas.
Only thing lacking is a little shop for bread and milk etc but saying that, Thirsk is a 10 min drive and theres shops, pubs, takeaways etc and for pub meals the dog and gun is 2 minutes drive down the road.
Overall there isnt anything bad to say. This site is so clean and tidy and well kept it is a credit to the owners.

We chose this site as we are new to caravanning and this was our first outing and wanted somewhere easy to get to, which this site was, just off the A19. The other reason was you could literally drive onto your gravel pitches! no manouvering at all needed. All pitches were Fully Serviced including Satellite connection. The site toilet / showers were very clean, modern and warm, only accessible by key, my mother also used the disabled facilities which were also of the same high standard. Our three children loved the large wooden playground, which could be seen from most pitches. Dogs are welcome at this site and their is ample walking areas around adjacent fields and small lake area. The nearest place for any provisions is Thirsk which is about 5/10 mins drive, although their is a pub within the village of Knayton. The site owners were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our only criticism would be not enough signage when you drive out of the village, could do with road sign perhaps near small crossroads to show that the site is straight ahead, we weren't sure that we were on the right road. Our children made some good friends their and keep asking when can we go again! We will be going again, although would suggest booking early as it seems to be getting very popular.

What a lovely site! It is situated amidst beautiful scenery. The pitches are aligned so that you aren't overlooking one another, and this also means that you all have access to the marvellous views.
The toilet blocks were immaculate, and nice and warm, which was a bonus, because the weather wasn't!
The pitches were a good size, with individual services, including waste and chemical toilet disposal on some.
Our only criticism is of lack of information on arrival. There isn't a formal reception, just the door of the farmhouse, which is fine as long as you know where to go. A bit of extra signage would have been a great help. This was more than outweighed by the warm welcome.
A great site. Recommended. We will be going back.

We have just returned from hillside after a three night stay. As you arrive you are greeted with a very warm welcome from the owners. As with other reviews about this site they are true to their word this is a well thought out new site of which I will expect to be very popular come the summer as lots of country walks to be done and thirsk and northallerton are only 15mins away the dog and gun in knayton sells good traditional pub grub and reasonbly priced. We enjoyed this site so much and despite the bad weather we have. We have left our van here in their storage as we have booked up to return on the 18th of this month. So seamed a bit daft to take our van home and back again so what we have saved in fuel cost we have spent on the storage fee of £1 per night.
Cant wait to return.

Agree with all the comments of other visiters to this site. Our first impression was it was a bit pricey for October, but when you see the standard of this site it's worth it. Cracking site in good location. We will add this site to our favorite list.

This site is excellent. We arrived earlier than expected and were greeted with a friendly and warm welcome. The site entry and exit is electronic and secure with coded entry and CCTV to keep an eye on the main gate. The layout of the site is superb and the pitches, either super or serviced are very spacious with plenty of room for your awning and a couple of cars. Very easy to simply tow your caravan into the right spot and then unhitch. The site has wireless Internet, and although we didn't use it a strong signal was available all over the site. The toilet block is modern and is appropriately sized for the site, has private washing cubicles and showers along with hand /face and hairdryer. As well as being kept spotlessly clean and fresh, it is comfortable with its under-floor heating so no cold feet when you get out of the showers! The site is surrounded by fields and is on a working farm, though you wouldn't know it. The atmosphere there is very peaceful and ideal for relaxation. There's loads of space for the kids to play and keep their footballs well away from the caravans, and some swinging and climbing apparatus. The site is very well situated. Its only a few miles out from the races but its also very easy to travel to the coast. There are also some very nice National Trust sites within easy reach if you like to go exploring the abbeys, houses and gardens. There are no shops in Knayton, but there is a pub just down the road -

We stayed here for 10 nights in early July (sorry it's taken a while to post a review Pat!).
The site is a little gem!
The shower block was absolutely spotless and there was plenty of hot water, although the push button timer on the shower could have worked for a little longer.
The surrounding park was well laid out and clean and the hard standing pitches are drive through so it was easy to park close to the electric point, (great if you have a long vehicle or don't want to spend ages manoeuvring your outfit). The super pitch was brilliant and the wireless Internet access was superb!
The trip to Thirsk and surrounding villages was easy although when we went the A1 had major roadworks. However, we found that using the back roads was quicker and a lot more pleasant.
We will definitely go back and would highly recommend it.
