My boyfriend and I stayed at this site for three nights and arrived late morning on a Saturday, although we arrived fairly early it was not a problem to be given a pitch. It was a sunny weekend so quite busy, but they still had a few pitches. We were given a pitch around the edge of the site which enabled us a bit of privacy, however they do have two fields in the middle, which looked rather more 'cosy'. The site emptied out dramatically on Sunday morning which made it easier for showering and washing up when you wanted.

The owners were OK, I did not find them overly helpful, unless you asked, and they only said hello when you spoke first which I found rather odd. There were plenty of leaflets at the Wardens shed which helped with where to go and what to do.

The toliet/shower facilities were clean with plenty of sinks, toilets, showers and mirrors, although the showers had a push button system which you could not hold constantly or keep pushing, you had to wait until the water stopped and then push again which meant you had a second or two of no water which was frustrating and at times cold.

They have 4/5 sinks with a drying rack for washing up, which I found useful (although busy over the weekend).

They did have a playground for the kids which they seemed to enjoy, especially the sand pit (I did not have kids with me so this is purely an observation).

The site had lots of wild rabbits, a couple of horses and a herd of sheep (in a gated area) which provided a little entertainment in the evening.

We found the site to be very peaceful and a welcome escape from city noises, although having said that, they have stony gravel paths running all around the site which could be quite noisy and irritating in the dead of night or early in the morning, especially if people went out early in their cars!

Please note that if you are thinking of booking this site because of the quiet after 10.30pm rule, there was nobody policing this at all (I did not see a warden after about 6pm). We had no bother ourselves apart from a few people talking till about 11pm, which was not a problem to us as it was not espcially loud, but a couple who pitched next to us on for our third night informed us that they were over the other side of the site the night before and a big group of people were playing music and talking loudly until 2am, they complained to the warden, who did nothing so they asked to be moved.

The nearest town was about a ten minute drive away although we came across a NISA shop a couple of minutes drive away (in the direction of Ringwood). There is a well stocked shop on site and as expected the prices are a bit higher then outside the site, so come prepared.

The site is within the new forest, so it is nice to be able leave the car behind and go for a wander, or great for bikes if you have some, although I would highly recommend being more prepared then us and taking a map and compass, as we went for a 'short walk' in the woods and ended up 3 miles in the wrong direction, luckly I had accidently packed my sat nav which saved us from unwanted stress! There was a nice picnic area very close to the site, if you turn right on the main-ish road it is a minute or so down. We walked up the hill and found lots of animals using the watering hole in the distance and we also saw a family of deer which was fantastic.

There is a pub on site which we did not use, it did not create a lot of noise, a live band played on the Sunday night and although we were fairly close to the pub it did not bother us in the slightist, the band came off around 11pm which was ironic considering the 10.30pm quiet rule!

I would recommend this site if you just want basic and clean, and only want to do lots of walking and/or riding. It is great for kids and couples alike.

Nice clean site - nice loos and service block - plenty of space - many pitches sloping - OK for caravans, but not for campervans / tents. But, we had a reasonably level pitch - just needed the levelling blocks to get it right.

Nice location - ideal for getting into the New Forest - had a great time.

£19 / night for campervan, 2 adults, + hook-up.

My first stay at this site in June 08 was a great experience. Site wasn't too busy and the wardens spaced the units out very well. The site was very clean and obviously well maintained. The shower block is one of the best I have ever used.
All pitches are pretty level with lots of water taps around the site and electric hook up was well positioned. The local pub was really good. While not associated with the campsite its at the entrance but is a nice country pub with a good mixture of locals, visitors and campsite guests. The local brews were fantastic along with lovely food and a great atmosphere.
The surrounding area is typical New Forest with lots of well marked footpaths and cycle routes and the coast is only a 15 min drive away. I thouroughly recommend this site with no negative points whatsoever!

Facilities at this site were very good, and it is in a lovely location. However we felt very crammed in (other vans and tents very close) and a lot of people ignored the 10.30pm quiet rule which made getting our children to sleep (and us) impossible before midnight.

We have just spent last weekend at this site and it is fabulous. Very busy, but the facilities seemed to cope admirably. The location could not be faulted - you are right in the middle of the forest.
The drive to it is a little scary, the roads say 6ft 6inches maximum, and we only just managed to squeeze our motorhome down through the lanes. I thoroughly recommend this site - we had a great time!

First time to this site but definitely not the last. The best ever.

It is slap bang in the middle of the forest with excellent walks on the doorstep which is handy for an energetic Springer. The site is just the right size and with the EHU on one side and those without on the other. There was ALOT of rain while we were there and as we were on a slight incline we had a puddle through the breathable ground sheet. Still didn't alter the site at all.

The showers were lovely and big with room to change, you do have to keep pressing the button to keep it going which can be tricky. The toilets were always kept clean and tidy.

The people running the site were always happy to help, especially when we turned up hungry for fish and chips.

However the food at the pub on site is amazing, we ate there 3 times and we were never dissapointed. It was also good that we could take our dog in with us.

The small play is just right for our 2 children, all the children on the site played well together.

The no noise after 10.30pm was stuck to which made getting the children asleep easier.

We will definitely be going back.

This is my favourite campsite in the entire country! I love this place and we visit on average 3 times a year. We live less than an hour away but feel a million miles from home, it's a beautiful and basic campsite with a nice new shower block (although the showers are a bit naff when they are all in use), small shop with essentials, good washing up area, play area and sandpit for the kids and my favourite - a pub! (dogs welcome).

There is little else around the area with the nearest offsite shop about a 10 minute drive, the nearest village /other pub is about 2 miles away but there is plenty of walking in the forest and on the surrounding hills.

Twice a year the pub holds a beer festival which pulls in a big crowd to the campsite and can get noisy in the evenings with the bands playing, so if you don't like crowded pubs and loud music avoid the beer festivals, as much fun as they are we also visit at other times, the first bank holiday this year there were about 3 other units in the field on the first night (Thursday) and it was blissfully peaceful.

My only grumble about this site? It's not open 12 months of the year.

This is our 3rd visit to Red Shoot as always it is excellent. The shower blocks have been updated which makes a big difference. The shop is well stock if you require somthing last minute. Staff on reception were helpful and friendly. The pub serves good food and real ale. The location in the middle of the forest is fantastic. The no noise after 22.30 was adhered to (apart from the dog's once one starts they all start)

It is a good family site were as parents you can feel comfortable about the safety of your children.

Agree that it is a bit more pricey then other sites, but you pay for what you get at the end of the day. We will be back!

This is a rural location in the New Forest.

We received a warm welcome and were shown personnally to our pitch.

Ideal for walkers with or without dogs close to forest walks.

All necessary amenities, well stocked shop, nice playground, ideal for families.

This was busy site when we visited, however there is a 10.30pm quiet rule which ensures a peaceful nights sleep.

We spent 4 nights at Red Shoot over the early May bank holiday and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We arrived on the Thursday before the weekend and were given a pitch on the exterior of the camping area with electrical hook-up for our caravan. The site was lovely and quiet but we were under no illusion that it was going to get busier as the weekend progressed! However, despite being very busy there was never a queue for the showers or toilets and they remained spotless.

There is a strict rule about no noise after 10.30pm and this was always adhered to (although our 10 month old baby tried to punctuate the silence at about 2am!). Dogs were allowed on-site but owners explicitly told not to let them foul on the grass.

The site benefits from its own pub (which brews its own ale) and serves some really good grub (if you can't be bothered to cook for yourself)! The onsite shop is sufficient with fresh bread and locally produced meat for your bar-b-qs!

One of the main attractions is the friendly, family atmosphere we experienced and as such we have already booked up for August Bank Holiday!
