Just returned after spending fourteen nights at this site.
The facilities are first class, although one of the smaller toilet blocks is closed for renovation, and the other small one closed on 1st Sept on the dot along with 1/3 of the large block.
At this time of year the pitches are well worn and can be a little 'lumpy' in parts, a garden rake might be handy for some.
The facilities are well described in previous reviews we couldn't fault them.
The only problem we did have was our electric kettle blew the circuit breaker, it is 2000watt, we had to buy a smaller kettle.
We ate at various establishments and cannot fault the food nor prices, nor service at any of them.
As a base to visit the chateaux to us this was the ideal place.
There are two supermarkets nearby, one across the river in Poce, the other on the outskirts of Amboise itself, a small shopping centre.
Fully recommend it.

Stayed here for 8 nights in July. Site is well located and has a cafe/ bar on site. Food there is ok and, for Amboise, reasonably priced. Toilet and shower blocks are fine but remember to take your own toilet paper. It remains a mystery to me why soap and towels are not provided for hand washing after the toilet.
Camp site now has a security barrier to make things a little more secure. When the system broke down during bad weather I understand from Brits that staff seemed unperturbed by this and did not want to venture out of the office to resolve the problem. We felt that the staff we met lacked some local knowledge eg we asked for a camping shop and they knew of none locally
Would I stay there again? Certainly yes but I would avoid eating establishments on the Main Street. Excessively expensive and very average food.
Location is really good

Spent two nights here again, love this site.
Shower block at bottom of site was only open but it's really good, they now seem to separate motor homes, caravans and tents. No tag axles now allowed.
Watched hot air balloons taking off from the field next to the site.
Arrived just before check in opened so had a decent meal in the bar adjoining the site.
The site is just one big open space which I love, the pitches are marked with flat disc stones so some people miss them when driving looking for pitch.
Such an easy site for exploring beautiful Amboise.
Again had a late night drink at Le Shaker bar just by bridge with views to die for and a great buzz, cocktails are a must.
The municipal pool wasn't open yet, think it's 1st July, the same for the crazy golf.
If you have never been to amboise it's a must on your list!
Ps there is an aire next to the site that's 1 euro cheaper, it's beyond me why people use it with no facilities when this is just that tiny bit extra.

Stayed here in August 2012 for 2 nights loved it so much had a nights stop over in June 2013 on the way up from the Dordogne. A very big site, good showers. 5 minutes or so over the bridge walking and you are in the town, turn right through the clocktower and carry on down that road for a fab butcher, green grocer and a cake shop at the very end. When you walk up from the site keep by the river going towards the bridge, don't cross the bridge and you will find a bar Le Shaker, views straight at the chateau and pages and pages of cocktails that come in flower vase sizes! Ordered an ice cream at midnight, great atmosphere bar.
On our latest stay we awoke to find close to a dozen vans had been broken into during the night, people had left their side windows open because of the heat and handbags were taken through the windows. Luckily we hadnt. Police arrived swiftly, 100s of euros, cameras, keys etc gone.
This is still my fav site out of the ones we did last year in the Loire, prefered Amboise to Saumur.

We stayed at this site for 4 nights and would have stayed longer if we had not paid for our next site (a mistake we will not make again).
The site is situated on an island on the Loir and I found my stay here very peaceful. The staff are really friendly, speak very good English and nothing was a problem to them. The first pitch we had been offered was poor in quality, but we asked and were given a better pitch which was in view of the local park, very flat and spacious. A code is required to enter the site for walkers and vehicles and seemed very secure to me.
The site has three shower blocks with one of them looking like it had just been opened this season (2011) and all were spotless.
Although we were next to the local park it was regularly patrolled by police and very quiet on a night. During the day it was nice to watch the French families playing and one evening hot air balloons took off from the park. In the park is a fitness track with different exercise to do (not that I tried any) and also with metal rowing machines, cross country ski and exercise bikes. There is also a mountain bike track that my son (15) spent hours on and tennis courts.
Next to the site you also have kayaking, crazy golf which is free for residents and a municipal swimming pool with a reduced rate for residents. This pool was much needed with temperatures climbing into the 30's whilst we where there. The pool area was great to spend a few hours at with a picnic and very clean. Down side to the pool is that you cannot go in it in shorts and need proper swimming trunks, but this applies to all municipal swimming pools in France.
Near our pitch was a small children’s play area that also had a young girl who put on creative activities for the smaller children – painting, colouring, etc.
The beauty of this site is that it is close enough to walk into Amboise for an evening meal, a browse in the shops or a visit to the chateau. There is also a cafe/bar at the top of the site, two bar/restaurants 5 minutes further away, but we did not use any of these and chose to walk into Amboise for our evening meals.
In Amboise on Sunday mornings there is a large market that runs along the banks of the river and great to wander through.
This site just had a good feel to it.
Would I return to this site? - Most definitely.
Would I recommend it to other campers? - Yes.

We stayed here at Ambroise for one night only as we were passing through. Having seen the popularity of Saumur and the site there I didn't think we would be able to get a pitch for the night but we did.
The campsite is large, I think in total it has 400 emplacements, they are large but not divided by hedge or the like. Our pitch was absolutely flat although there were some mole hills on it.
There are 3 sanitary blocks available on site and also a small bar. The facilities were kept very very clean. The site appears linked in to the local sports centre too so there is a swimming pool and other sporting activities available.
The beauty of the site is the proximity to Ambroise. This is a lovely Loire town and we found it much more charming and relaxed than Saumur. Every Tuesday night in the summer they have an evening market where you can sample foods and wine and purchase dinner from the market to eat whilst there.
We paid 11. 15euros for a pitch for a camper van and 2 adults - we didn't have electric. We thought this was very good as it was August. As the other review says it is not a particularly intimate site but to explore the Loire it would make a handy base.

We stayed here for 2 nights for a 'stopover' down to Ile D'Oleron. The pitches were big enough for my father to pitch his tent on the same pitch as our van. The management were fine with us all piling on 1 pitch with 2 cars as well.
There was a new shower block at the far end of the site which was lovely. The one in the middle was very tired in comparison so we preferred to walk further to do our 'business' in comparative luxury!
Amboise itself is beautiful and at just 5 min walk very accessible. The Chateaux is worth a visit. Amboise market is a sight not to be missed. If you are lucky you may catch hot air balloons taking off in the park next to the campsite.
We were so glad this wasn't a rushed stopover and that we had chance to explore.

This site is mostly under trees and is of the open type with no hedges around individual pitches. The pitches are 'rutty' and slightly sloping. It's a very large site with 3 washing / toilet blocks which are kept very clean by an army of staff. Whilst the site is fine I wouldn't want to stay here for any length of time as it's a bit clinical and misses out on that feeling of cosiness you get on many French sites. Theres also lots of campervans coming and going all of the time. There was a distinct lack of grass on many of the pitches and the whole place looked dusty and regimented. The local town is nice and the outlying area is also, giving easy access to all the places you might want to go to. I wouldn't stay on this site again as there are many other sites not far away that in my opinion are much better kept and cost the same or less. To be honest we didn't stay long enough to try our the local activities such as canoeing and horse riding etc. Might be just the right place for you, but not for us.
