We booked this site as a overnight stop, coming off the ferry at Portsmouth; we arrived at 1015 pm and found the pub and site in pitch darkness. After eventually managing to find our way into the site, and trying to find a reasonably level part of the field to pitch, a difficult task as the site was like a ploughed field, we were invaded by the largest swarm of flies I have ever seen! We could not find the water tap or any other facilities in the dark, so, after attacking the flies, we went to bed. In the morning we were informed by one of the other caravanners on the site that the pub was closed on Mondays! we were not told this when we booked.
On reading the other reviews here, I can only assume that the site has gone seriously down the nick since the last review, which was in 2012, we will certainly not be going back!

This is a good campsite for a stop-over if Sailing from Portsmouth. We stayed for one night on a Monday. The pub does not open every day, and it was closed. There was nobody about for our arrival, but we asked other campers who were there and they told us to 'just hook up' to the electricity and somebody would be around sometime in the evening. This is what happened and we paid for one night. There is a door from the campsite that leads into the pub toilets when the pub is closed, so these are available. If you book this site for a stop-over, check that the pub will be open; otherwise, make sure that you have enough food for the night. In previous years we have stayed when the pub has been open, and the pub grub was excellent.

We arrived on site and parked easily on The Pub's large car park whilst we headed off to find the Campsite Owner. We got a cheerful welcome from the young bar staff who dealt with our Campsite booking, and told us to choose our own pitch.
Looking down the Camping field the Electric Hook Ups are all on the right hand side. Half way down there is a water tap. Look out for the stones that mark out the pitches.
There are no showers on site, only a His and Her toilet with wash basin, kept well clean and stocked, which is open all night, and shared by the Pub's customers too.
In the Pub's own back garden there are plenty of outside picnic benches, some under the large gazebo which is next to the children's good sized play park.
The Campsite was very quiet during the weekdays, then filled up with Campers on the Friday and Saturday night. It is a very Popular Pub, which sometimes has entertainment, there was no entertainment the weekend we were there, but still very lively at the weekend till way past midnight.

This is a very nice and peaceful site. The people who manage it are extremely nice and helpful. The playing area for the young ones is very secure and comprehensive, also the whole site, being contained nicely behind the pub car park, is safe for the children. EHUs a-plenty. Well-maintained grass.
Bonus for us the weekend was the annual cider fest! Marred only by a couple of power failures, understandable due to the high electrical demands of the amplifiers!
While not wishing to search for any cons, to be honest I can only think of one - the mobile cover which is pretty poor, and certainly not the fault of the site owners. We found Vodafone a tiniest bit better but still poor. Texting was easier than calling, but still took anything from a few minutes to a few hours!
Excellent site, we will go again. Tariff very good considering peak time - only £14 per nt covering the 'van, car and EHU.
Access excellent but touring caravan owners plan carefully to avoid narrow country roads when approaching from North.

Really enjoyed this site right in the middle of the country. A 'real' local pub with very good food at extremely reasonable prices. Left to our own devices with no Mr or Mrs rules and regulations down our necks, so felt free! Very friendly locals who welcomed us as well. The icing on the cake though was hearing my first cuckoo in 15 years! Don't know much about the surrounding area as only here for one night, but the field in which we stayed was large enough for us to have plenty of space to ourselves, and we were able to get a reasonably good TV reception. Lovely outside garden friendly to smokers like ourselves and a great playground area with swings etc for children.
