Excellent little 'quiet' site: very clean FREE showers, large heated room c/w seating & tables (useful when wet/cold!). Friendly & welcoming proprietors - have a few 'essentials' available in office if you've forgotten anything.
Close to small & lovely town of Kirkby Stephen - recommend the White Lion - 'proper' old school pub: Landlord let us get takeaway Indian & eat it with our pints!
Woke up to curious bird noises - huge colourful Parakeets flying wild around the neighbourhood. Like something out of Avatar.
Some traffic noise - tip: camping over in the main field would be quieter than around the amenity block.
Enjoyed the whole experience - I'll be back

Stayed here with some motorcycling friends for two nights. Good level site with grass at a reasonable height.
Very reasonable rates. Good free showers, toilets, wash basins and hand dryer. Electric clothes dryer available at reasonable cost.
Spacious heated lounge area, ideal for drying and storing bike gear. Welcoming owners.
Close to the town which has good pubs, chip shops and eating places, both eat in and take out.
The area is ideally suited for exploring the Lakes or the Pennines
I would certainly use this site again

We visited Takoda for a few days over Easter as a base for visiting the Lake District. On arrival we were the only people there and the owners were not about - so following the instructions on the website we pitched up in our chosen spot half way along the river bank to one side of the site. All facilities are in a block to one side of the site - however the place is so small that this is not a problem. The site location and amenities are superb - within walking distance of the village of Kirkby Stephen with its pubs, restaurants and shops, and an easy drive to all parts of the Lakes. The site is served by a sparkling clean toilet & shower block with separate Gents & ladies sides - the showers are hot, powerful and free, and there is also a separate lounge which would be ideal for spending evenings in bad weather, and a small but immaculate wash-up/laundry room. The reception area also incorporates a small shop selling tea bags, tinned soup etc, but is only open limited times so don't rely on this for any essentials!
On arrival back at the site early on our first evening we discovered that a large group had arrived and pitched up along the fence line just a short distance from us. It should be noted that there was still nobody else on site, therefore they had the whole site to choose from, and could have chosen to place themselves substantially further away. It didn't worry us though as the site's website makes much of their site rule regarding groups needing to be quiet, and a strict site curfew after 10pm - we had chosen the place based on this, as a couple we prefer quieter places. I'm afraid this was where the site let itself down badly. The group were not only noisy, they continued to be so well into the early hours of the morning. The more they drank, the noisier they got, meaning we got little sleep. In the morning we cautiously raised this with the site owners - as the only others there we felt reluctant to actually complain, but asked whether perhaps they might be able to pop by that evening after curfew to see how things were. Instead they said that they would 'have a word' as the group were friends of theirs. Shortly after, Maria came over to ask if we would 'like to move elsewhere on the site' - we declined, as not only had we chosen the spot we particularly wanted, but were on our way out for the day and didn't want to waste several hours breaking down and re-pitching! We also felt that as the first to arrive, this shouldn't even have been considered! The next two nights followed a similar pattern - the group continuing with being noisy, music playing, shouting, screeching laughter, loud swearing etc right up to midnight. Had we had children with us we would definitely have left the site. Whilst we appreciate that the group were friends of the owners, perhaps if they are going to have groups staying to whom the rules don't apply they should consider closing the site to others and making it a private booking.
In summary - a beautiful site, with immaculate facilities, let down on this occasion by its inattention to its own rules. For facilities and setting - this is a 10 star site, but for us do not go expecting the rules re quiet times to be enforced.

Just completed the Lady Annes Way long distance walk back packing and stayed at Takoda in Kirkby Stephen
It is a new site ran by Paul and his wife who are very friendly and informative of what the town has got,
Several pubs and a few chip shops as well as a co-op about a 2 minute walk from site the town is about a 10 min walk.
The site itself is excellent with good flat grassy pitches, the showers are free and there are laundry facilities,
The icing on the cake is a room to sit and eat and relax in when it is cold and wet.
Well worth a visit as it is also on the coast to coast walk.

Nothing negative to say about TAKODA campsite. Fantastic site-lovely people and in an excellent location. No hook-ups but as tent campers-does that really matter?
Groups of (well-behaved!) friends are welcome-which is a rarity these days!(even bikers are welcome!-no offence - I am a biker myself )
'Real' campsites are getting hard to find these days-too many camping pods, caravans etc. This is a real campsite for campers!
I don't want everybody to know about it, but these people deserve to succeed. Have a look for yourself-you wont be disappointed.

Went to Takoda Friday 3rd june till Sunday. On arrival we found the owners to be very pleasant and helpful. The campsite field was mostly flat but some areas with a slight incline. There were 2 toilets and 2 showers so if the campsite was busy you may have to wait for showers but they were spotless and warm. No hand dryer, could do with one. Kirby Stephen only a 10 minute walk along the road or 15 along the river. Its got everything you need with lots of shops and pubs. The camp-site is very well situated although there is a road at top of the site but it did not disturb us. Will definitely go back.

Just returned from a two night stay at this wonderful campsite. The owners son could not of made us more welcome, dreadlocks n all. Hubby a keen Bob Marley fan so felt at home.
Just five minutes walk to the nearest co-op supermarket another few minutes to takeaways, pizza, fish n chips, Chinese and Indian. As well as a couple of good pubs and cafe's.
The showers are immaculate. A washer and dryer were available( good idea in the well known Cumbrian weather).
After a red hot Friday we unfortunately had to make use of the large heated room that is on offer. This had lots of new tables and chairs and ideal for a party when the weather is unbearable. Piped music and all. We found this a godsend and sat until after midnight drinking and chatting to other campers.(Only one thing missing a vending machine for hot drinks would of been nice).
No playarea for children, maybe this is the intention and as grandparents enjoyed the peace and quiet. Although, there was one family on the site.
Nicely situated to visit both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Will be definitely returning to this great site soon.

We have just returned from a brilliant weekend at this campsite. We pitched our tent right next to the River Eden which acts as one of the site's boundaries. The ground was level making for an easy pitch.
The shower and toilet block was immaculately clean - 2 showers in each block which were free to use. There is a large indoor seating area which you are free to use. The room feature plug points meaning that girls can fetch their straighteners!
The owners were lovely, friendly and welcoming and once word gets out about this newly opened site, it's going to be busy!
5 minutes walk into Kirkby Stephen for shops, pubs and a decent Indian Restaurant.
We'll be returning - was lovely!

I'd been recommended this very new campsite by a group of people who had stayed on their very first weekend of business.
I booked a nights accommodation on my return from West Coast Scotland to the South East, and on the day in question was somewhat delayed by a slightly ambitious agenda of places to visit on route! Out of courtesy, as it was 8. 30pm, I called the office and spoke with Paul to apologise and explain that we should be with him within 30 mins.
We arrived at this well signposted site and us weary travellers were offered a very welcome cup of tea and chillout for 15mins before we got the tents set up. By 10pm we were hotfooting it the 10 mins into Kirkby Stephen and found the excellent Indian restaurant.
Next morning after a wet night, we were glad of the excellent room to sit and enjoy a coffee and breakfast before showering and packing up for our onward journey.
Paul & Maria have the basis of an excellent business and in the short time I spent with them felt the karma was great with lots of different age groups and profiles mixing. Well done guys - we will be back, but next time for longer!

Just returned from this newly opened campsite. Was not disappointed. Lovely level grass, easy to peg into too.
Little river running through it. It says no hook up but there is a lovely area you can go to if the weather lets you down, that has electricity, great for kids to recharge their game boys or for that essential hair straightening or to just to chill and eat your take away from one of the many places in Kirkby Stephen.
Kirby Stephen is a five minute walk away with nice easy circular walks in any direction. We were spoilt for choice. The owners are really friendly and helpful and we will definitely return
