We stayed here for four nights during July and had some very mixed feelings about the site.
The Good:
The site was in a lovely location, only a short drive into weymouth and the local shops but tucked out the way so it felt very secluded. It is situated at the bottom of a rather steep farm track and the site was very sheltered and nice and flat.
Very relaxed pitching rule and you can pitch where ever you liked. This is ideal if you are part of a group and there were numerous circles of tents pitched together. There is also a lovely village pub just a five minute walk through the campsite, perfect!
Lots of open space for the kids to play in - no play area which was fine as our daughter soon made friends with the other children staying.
Open camp fires are allowed so it was nice to sit in the evening round the fire. No strict rules about noise either so while we didn't have to sneak off to bed early some people were up until the small hours making a lot of noise which wasn't great.
Some puppies and goats on site which the children loved playing with.
The Bad:
There are no proper washing up facilities here, just a sink on a stand with cold water and no shelter. This got very dirty and it was a pain boiling hot water to wash up in.
Showers were ok but very temperamental (either scalding or cold), just a wooden shed divided into cubicles.
Nowhere to wash my young son so he just got a wipe with a flannel which wasn't ideal.
The toilets were beyond vile. I appreciate why the site opted for compost toilets but the field we were in only had three loo's and it just wasn't enough. On the 3rd day we were there the smell from them was indescribable and they were swarming with flies. Very unhygienic especially as no hot water to wash your hands in!
I wouldn't recommend the shop unless you are desperate, it wasn't particularly well stocked and everything was very overpriced.
Overall this is a nice site, perfect if you like relaxed basic camping and don't mind that people wont be going to bed at 10. 30pm.
However it was just too basic for me so I don't think I'll be going back.
