We have just returned from a fantastic bank holiday weekend in the camping pod and are already planning our return trip to this site!
The site itself is beautifully kept with immaculate toilets (with individual heaters in each one- something of a luxury!), well presented showers and ample space for pitching your tent.
We decided to treat ourselves and stay in the camping pod rather than bringing our tent; we arrived on a Friday night and were happily greated by the owner who was very helpful (even though we'd arrived late) and directed to our pod.
The pod itself is the most inventive form of glamping we have experienced recently. Comfortably furnished with 2 single beds, electricity and a heater we couldn't have asked for more- simple but very very effective. Outside there is a sheltered decking area, a fire pit and beautiful views across the rolling hills.
I cannot reccommend this pod enough if you don't want the hassle of putting up a tent and would like more shelter from the elements than a bell tent could offer you.
The site is in easy distance of Brighton, Lewes and Falmer, perfect for day trips or a beer at the local pub.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay and will definitely be returning to the site.
Thanks Housedean for a fantastic camping/glamping experience!

Surrounded by beautiful rolling fields and mature trees. Advantage of being close to the A27 so very accessible, 10 mins drive to Brighton and 5 mins to Lewes. Be careful getting off main road, as sign post is very small.
4 very well maintained toilets and 3 showers, one of which has no roof so you can watch the sky while you wash.
Bike hire from the small site shop and minimal camping provisions.
I loved the simplicity of this site, no frills, just a lovely field full of like minded people.
No loud music, fire pits for your campfire.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. I would go back here again.

Just spent a lovely three day visit on this lovely Camp site.
Whilst it is as advertised Basic camping.
The Toilets and alfresco showers were spotlessly clean and functional. Putting the same facilities in more expensive sites to shame.
The views and surrounding areas were lovely. The A27 which runs along the side of the Site could be heard only as a background noise which at first light was diminished by the morning bird song.
Even though the Site only has two fields, the pitches are large and each pitch has its very own Fire Pit. Which we enjoyed using. Nothing beats warming tired feet in front of a fire toasting marsh mellows, listening to owls hooting and watching the bats flying overhead.
This site is on the downs, so it is hilly. So chose your pitch if availability allows.
We will definitely visit this site again.
We recommend a Visit into Lewes for it history and locally brewed Ale Harveys.
One of the best sites we have visited.

We stayed here for 3 nights in our campervan with awning. We are a family of 4. It was lovely, hilly but lovely. As it had been raining we opted to pitch up on a flatter bit. The pitches are spacious and we had a fire pit. Even though it did rain quite a bit we still managed to light and keep alight, a fire each day.
Our host was very friendly and attentive. He walked ahead of us to our pitch and as it wasn't fully booked, he advised us on where it might be better to pitch up. You can hear the noise of traffic from the main road but after a while you don't notice it. We were right on top of the South Downs but because of the rain and it being quite muddy, we didn't get to walk as much as we would have liked.
We purchased a couple of bags of firewood at a reasonably priced 5. 00 per bag, this came with kindling. The showers and toilets were kept very clean. I would say it's a nice place for children, younger children, as it's hilly and the children that were there seemed happy, running and cycling around. It's a quiet site, family friendly, they discourage the loud playing of music which is lovely.
You are not near any shops of walking distance. There are buses that take you into Brighton(approx 7 miles away, I think) and Lewes. There is a Waitrose and a Tesco in Lewes. There is a Sainsburys in West Hove I think.
We went into Lewes which is lovely. Parking is expensive (4. 00 for 2 hrs)We visited the castle which I would recommend. My children are 14 and 11 and they were very interested in it. I would suggest going into the Museum 1st as they have a short film about the history of Lewes. You can get a combined ticket to Anne of Cleves house as well but we didn't bother because time was short.
We also went into Brighton and did the whole amusement thing on the pier. Again parking was expensive (5. 00 for 2 hrs) which makes it a bit restrictive as you worry about the time. The rides on the pier take tokens which work out at 1. 00 each. Most rides are about 3 or 4 tokens per child. You can get 30 tokens for 20. 00 from the token booth. It's mostly suitable for older children/young teens I'd say. Watch out for the dive bombing gulls if you buy any food! Seriously you need to eat under cover as we saw them swoop on 2 unfortunate victims making them drop their noodles! The noodle stall is very reasonably priced, a tray of chicken noodles for 2. 70.
I would definitely go back to Housedean, my son loved it, being able to light a fire made it special for us as did the spacious pitches and quietness of it all. I loved watching the swooping swallows and the blackbirds picking worms right in front of our campervan.

What a fab site. Very warm welcome. The site was very clean as were the loos and shower.
Made new friends. And had the best long weekend ever.
U cant beat a real camp fire in the evening.
Cant wait to stay here again and again.
Lewes is a great little town. There is a great little cafe that does a stunning breakfest.
We love Brighton and this site ideal base you can catch the bus 28 0r 29. In to Brighton or Lewes. The bus stop is right outside the camp Site.

Housedean Farm Campsite is with out doubt one of the nicest campsites I have ever been to. Our group of 14 people spent a sunny weekend there along with around 20 other tents, which was fairly busy but not at all crowded.
The site is located within a pretty working farm and has stunning views across the east Sussex countryside. The owners were extremely helpful and conscientious and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable.
The facilities are excellent, the toilet block is of a very high standard and was kept extremely clean throughout our stay. The open air shower block proved a big hit with our group. The site offered value for money, stunning views and a friendly welcome.
The site is located quite close to a busy road so the early morning traffic can be quite loud, however this did not impact upon our stay. A fantastic site that I would thoroughly recommend.

Our party of 4 people/2 tents stayed at Housedean Farm for 1 night and received a very friendly and helpful welcome. Every pitch bar one were taken; I think most others were joining us at the Fatboy Slim concert a short bus ride away at the new Amex Stadium.
All pitches were very generous - we had plenty of room and privacy. The site is quite slopey but we managed to pitch well and despite being near to the road we had a comfortable and undisturbed sleep!
There are two very well kept toilets with a washing-up area and a wooden shower unit which was clean, hot and adequate. I'm not sure with the open-top it would be suitable in cooler weather though. With an estimated 50 people staying here we never had to queue for facilities and their condition remained great.
There is a very regular bus route from here and taxi's from Lewes are available. Lewes is a lovely little town with everything you need and more! We would definitely use this pretty and pleasant site again.

We randomly wrote down a few camp sites prior to leaving and set off on our adventure. We pulled up to Housedean Farm, initially we were concerned about being so close to the road. However we found a perfect little spot at the top of the hill, yes the gradient was a little step but the view was beautiful and the road noise seemed distant and didn't disturb us at all like we initially thought.
The chap who greeted us was a very friendly guy and very informative and helpful. We set up camp and relaxed in the sun on a beautiful sunny April day watching the blue sky and clouds drift by. We then headed into Lewes to pick up supplies which was about a 5 minute drive into a very beautiful little town.
The facilities were all very clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. However there is only 2 toilet blocks, 1 shower and 1 sink so on a busy day it may be problematic. This wasn't the case when we were there we had a whole field with 3 tents in, was fantastic.
We thought £16 pounds for the night for the both of us was reasonable and would definitely visit again.
All in all, yes it is close to the road and yes their is gradients in places. But on the whole its well worth a visit if you are passing in the area.

I used this site as a stop over whilst walking the South Downs Way, it is perfectly located for this purpose, being right on the path, which is quite rare, so the review is written from that standpoint.
I see that the first review states that the field is gently sloping, it is far from that, and is actually very steep in places which can mean it is difficult to find an even pitch, you must get there early to ensure you are going to be sleeping on even ground.
The field itself is very clean, even the portaloos were clean. The facilities are very basic, but that is what the website says so should come as no surprise. I went to the site with my daughter in a small tent having spent the day walking on the South Downs Way. I have to say I feel £12. 50 for the facilities is a bit steep.
The site is quite some way from local facilities if you are on foot, not a problem if you have a car. There is a petrol station with a good range of food etc about 15 mins walk along the A27 towards Lewes (eastbound).
The only other draw back is the traffic noise which does continue into the night. All that said as a one night stop over it was perfectly acceptable if a little on the expensive side.

This new campsite is a single, spacious, gently rising field enclosed by stone walls, and run by very friendly and welcoming owners.
We camped in good weather 22-24 July in the top left corner of the field (see Housedean Farm Campsite: 'View of the Downs from the campsite') - an excellent spot.
Do not be put off by the proximity of the campsite to the by-pass which is hidden from view, audible in the daytime(of course) but barely noticeable at night.
If your idea of camping is to explore, in the daytime, beautiful countryside then, at night, chill out peacefully around a campfire under the stars, this site ticks those boxes. We will definitely go again
