Our first family camping trip - chose this site as it was close to home. Beautiful location, huge mostly flat field surrounded by hedge/trees. We set up camp close to the hedge boundary with the car park but the owner's barrow was coming in handy for those who chose to set up further away from the car park.
This is truly an authentic camping experience. We LOVED the owner's brazier pit camp fires which were free to use just £5 for a bucket of fire wood, it was lovely as night fell seeing all the burning fires around the site.
Very basic facilities perfect for short stays, I would struggle to stay longer than 2 nights as no freezing facility for cool packs or electric makes chilling food tricky.
Composting toilets a novel idea and seemed to work well without much of a pong! Free showers very invigorating in the morning!
We loved this site and will definitely be returning later in the year again - The only improvement I would like to see would be replacing the very small hand washing basin with a larger sink with warm water for washing up and the freezing facility then we'd stay for a week
Thanks, great work see you again soon!

Lovely site - arrived midweek unexpected heatwave - had the whole campsite to ourselves for a night - on arrival text/phone as advertised - car park is separate, so cannot drive on to field - owner has a wheel barrow which you can use - ASK - campfire design good - got a little busy but very good at least 10 metre distances with no problems - take a mirror and torches - loos are fine if a little difficult to sit comfortably - is a compost job - heard a young child say 'I can taste the smell' but not really bad on some of the hottest days of the years - lovely to shower in the open air - great sunsets and star gazing on the clear nights - some nearby roads but not busy and camp top/middle of field to avoid totally - could do with a kitchen washing area, but guess that will come as relatively new - a REAL camping experience - no light pollution - no hassle - have your campfire (using the equipment supplied)

Just recently stayed at the old vicarage campsite for my birthday. There was a large group of us plus our large tent and we had a great time!
Very easy to find, friendly campsite. Car park right next door which was great considering we may have over packed slightly!
Very spacious campsite with no set out pitches, you can camp where ever takes your fancy (which was handy for us as we didn't want to keep our neighbours up!)
The owner was lovely and couldn't have done more for us, including topping up our fire wood at 11:30pm when it was freezing!
The toilets and showers are very clean, no smell and always topped up with loo roll.
Only a 15 minute drive from Gt Yarmouth, its the perfect camp-site if you're looking for a hassle free, friendly camping experience. We'll definitely be going again :)

Really do not want to leave a report as the more positive reviews this site gets the more popular it will become and I will be in danger of not getting on without booking well in advance.
As usual we left it far to late to book a pitch anywhere. We like to camp where camp fires are allowed. It is a big part of the holiday sitting round the fire at night with the missus and kids, ghost stories and marshmallows are the order of the day (with something a little stronger for mum and dad).
I searched and searched the internet for somewhere with a vacancy but to no avail until I 'stumbled' across The Old Vicarage Campsite which incredibly is situated less than an hour from where we live.
We arrived 40 minutes after leaving home, even after such a short journey it was still good to see the campsite clearly signposted. There was a sign on a post advising new arrivals of a number to contact Bernie on.
Bernie told us to pitch wherever we wanted and that he would be along to see us later. There were several other campers already there so we opted for the bottom left corner which Bernie later informed us was the best spot on the field. He also took our order for firewood and marshmallows.
We spent a great couple of days there. It took our 10 year old son a while to chill into a life without his electric gadgetry but as soon as the fire was sparked up he 'warmed' to the outdoor life. Having the addition of a cooking plate is a great idea we cooked most of our meals on this.
Bernie came for a chat everyday - restocking firewood later in the day. The toilets and showers are basic but more than adequate.
Well worth a visit if you are into camping in a more traditional manner

We stayed for 3 nights in sept and found the site to be a really good 'campers' site.
The site was easy to find and a good location, nr to the coast. Nice size field on a slight slope but nothing to worry when pitching tents. It has a couple of composting toilets, showers (solar I think) and a wash basin. The best part of the site is the relaxed nature and the open fires, the owner wanders round a couple of times during the day to make sure everyone has enough fire wood. Really sound guy who seemed happy to have a chat with people.
All in all a really nice site.

Just back from a two night stay at the old vicarage campsite, this site is about a 5min drive from the A47, just of the roundabout at Acle. When on site the only thing you can hear is other campers playing. The ground is hard, not a lot of stones but hard clay. It is covered in grass and has no car damage as you have to park in the carpark and ferry your kit to where you want to pitch in the large trolly on site. No worry of your kids getting run over here. The site is on a long slow hill so no problem pitching your tent level. You can have a fire at this site and get free use of their wood burners, a large tub of seasoned wood is £5.
The two toilets are the composting type which work really well, after you have done number two's there is a plastic scoop to cover it with saw dust there is a sign which reads 'if you poop scoop if you pee let it be'.
The mens urinal is open air as is the showers. Everytime someone washes his or her hands the urinal is flushed. As said the showers are open aired and are well made plenty of free hot water and a lot cleaner than all the other camp sites I have been to.
The site is about 4 miles from Norwich camping handy if you have forgotten anything. The only thing that was missing was the fire fighting equipment as the owner felt people would misuse them!

We have just come back from a visit to this campsite if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing time this is the site for you.
The compostable toilets and solar showers were always clean and well stocked (with loo rolls and soap)these are the only facilities available no shop or bar but these can be found a couple of miles away in Acle.
Although there is no formal playground there is plenty of space for children to play safely. The gentleman checked each day to make sure we had all we needed and to see if there wqere any problems. In fact he was only a phone call away if we wanted extra wood etc.
The braziers are a brilliant idea handy not only for a fire but also to cook on.
All in all we had a wonderful time here and will come back again.

Angie and I used to go camping many years ago but have used a camper van for the past ten years. We decided this year to have a go at camping to see if it still appealed.
We chose The Old Vicarage because it seemed to be about 'real' camping. We had the most amazing time. The site is lovely. No cars on the actual site. Bernie is friendly and helpful, quick to respond to any requests for wood etc.
The fire pits which are supplied free were easy to light with the well seasoned wood that you can buy (very reasonably priced and delivered to your tent).
Facilities are basic but perfectly adequate for our needs. We were really impressed by the compost toilets and the spacious showers. The site really comes into it's own in the evening when the fires are lit, often for cooking the evening meal. They cooked beautifully. What could be better than sitting around a fire as it gets dark.
Thanks Bernie. You made our 23rd annual camping trip one to remember. We will certainly be back and have already recommended it to friends and family.
Also enjoyed the many activities there are to do around the area: Theatre in the park, boat trips, beaches, steam train ride and a 6 hour canoe trip on our last day.

This was only our third outing in a tent, so we were a bit wary of the basic facilities. We were pleased to find that the good points of this site more than make up for the lack of frills.
The overall relaxed atmosphere, huge spaces between tents and friendliness of Bernie, the owner, provided a good first impression, but it was in the evening that the site really shone through as something special.
Bernie provided a fire pit and a large bucket of wood for £5 - just enough to keep us going for one night. The fire sits in a converted tractor wheel hub and has an adjustable plate above it for frying your barbecue over the open wood fire. There is nothing to beat cooking your food on an open fire and then relaxing in front of it, warming your legs and drinking a beer or two while looking at the stars.
Cars are kept in an adjacent field, so the camp site is completely car-free. There is no specific play area for kids but loads of room in the middle of the site, between the tents for them to kick a ball or throw a Frisbee.
The surroundings are pleasant, being fields and trees and the only road near the site is quiet. It is well placed for going to the beach (Winterton is very nice) or other local attractions.
The facilities, although basic, were generally well maintained. The two showers gave a reasonable flow of hot water and the composting toilets were a lot better than they sound - clean, no smell and the kids loved chucking sawdust down them!
Our only criticism would be that the one sink is not intended for washing up, being quite small with no draining board.
We will definitely be going back and I'm looking forward to using that wonderful camp fire again.

We have just returned from 2 nights over the weekend. A grand experience camping with a very friendly owner.
It's such a lovely site. Just one field, and only 40 campers, so plenty of room for everyone. The atmosphere was very chilled. There was a mix of families, couples and small groups. It was lovely to see the kids play without worrying about cars driving through.
The composting toilets were keep clean and stocked up. They are well constructed, and really are odourless. The showers were warm and there was room to get changed. The sink could have done with being a bit bigger, but it's a small point.
The camp fires were fantastic. Most people used them to cook meals on, as they have a metal section over the top of the fire to cook on, and then keep warm as the sun died down.
We were delighted with the site, and will certainly be returning.
