Just back from 8 nights camping here and can wholeheartedly recommend it. I usually camp with loads of 'stuff' including a huge fridge and EHU. We were combining this trip with husbands work trip and chose this site as it was near. I thought we would stay a couple of nights as I didn't think we would manage 'basic' but we absolutely loved the place.
The toilets and shower (my benchmark for good site) were lovely, always clean and there was always soap, loo roll and hot water. There was an electric socket in there. It was shared with vegetarian cafe on site which was always busy but this was never a problem and I didn't end up in a queue.
There was a room for washing dishes where there was a good supply of hot water, washing up liquid and again it was always clean.
The tent was pitched in the orchard and was idyllic. It didn't have a campsite feel to it and was not busy. There were areas for campfires and there were picnic tables to use. Recycling facilities were available. Staff were friendly and helpful. The farm shop sold meat, provisions and freshly baked bread. Obviously not your usual supermarket prices but not extortionate. We had the fresh bread, milk and lots of veg and we cooked veg meals mostly. Meat was organic and expensive as is usually the case.
Two minute walk to Falkland Estate for walking, cycling and about a 20-30 minute walk through forest to Falkland where there are numerous cafes and pubs and a few craft/gift shops. There was one village shop for newspapers, basic provisions and it did sell wine/beer but not excellent choice, just usual 'corner shop' type goods. It was handy though. We ate in The Bruce and enjoyed it but sorry can't remember cost. There is a National trust place; Falkland Palace in the village. There are numerous walks from the village (5 min drive, or walk through estate). The East and West Lomond hills, Tyndall Bruce Monument, and a waterfall walk (Maspie Den), where you can walk behind the water, are just some of the walks we did.
We also did a few walks on the Fife Coastal path, visited St Andrews and went into Dundee twice. Cupar is the nearest town (I think) but apart from having an Indian meal there one night we only drove through there on our trips out. There were some supermarkets there and in Glenrothes(s) but we didn't use these.
Pillars has facebook page. There was no children's play area, just a sandpit as far as I was aware. Hence I have not given rating for child friendliness.
As you can tell I have nothing but praise for the campsite and the area.

Just returned from a weekend at this lovely little campsite near Falkland in Fife. There are two areas for camping; a field and an orchard. We were in the orchard. This is a great little campsite IF you like your camping plain and simple. Which I do.
The new toilet block is complete. The ladies and the gents each have a shower for the use of campers. One of the push button ones. But the water is lovely and hot. From the woodfired boiler. And the toilets were clean. The toilets are also used by people visiting the organic shop and cafe.
No play areas except those provided by being surrounded by woodland. Campfires allowed. Yeah!. And dogs allowed (must be kept on a lead)
I would certainly recommend this campsite. If you like rough camping you'll find it luxurious, if you like pampered camping you might feel that you're having to rough it!

Had a great weekend up here. Lovely leafy location. They accept campervans but no big coachbuilt flimsies or caravans due to access restrictions. No hook ups either as they are trying to be eco-friendly. Falkland is a 20 minute walk or quick cycle away. Cars can be unloaded at campsite and then have to be parked up a short distance away. Fires are also allowed in the existing fire pits. Composting toilets a good experience. Great for the kids due to woods to explore and play in. All in all a nice peaceful site. Will use again.

We had an idyllic time camping in the orchard of this organic farm. There's also an organic cafe and shop. Little birds (finches, robins etc) hop round the outside tables for crumbs.
The site has a choice of flushing or composting toilets. The shower looked quite basic. A new toilet and shower block was being built while we were there.
The farm is part of the Falkland estate in the Howe of Fife. Many times we have zoomed up the M90 to Perthshire not knowing what a lovely part of the world we were missing.
The farm is on a Sustrans route to St Andrews and footpaths abound. It's about a mile through the woods to the picturesque village of Falkland with pubs, shops and Falkland Palace, an NTS property.
In terms of children's facilities, well there's a sandpit, but ours were quite happy just pottering around the orchard or the woods or the farm.
We had dry weather, which probably helps, but this was our first proper campsite and it was my idea of just perfect. It's only an hour from Edinburgh so I'm slightly loathe to review this amazing place in case its full up next time we want to go.
