Excellent (and spotlessly clean) facilities for those not so self sufficient e. G cooking and refrigeration facilities. They have even provided a dining area with TV, books etc. It's the only camping kitchen I've ever been to where the owners have left a roll and eggs!

Also has a laundry area with tumble dryer and washing machine. Handy for both ferry terminals ( not that the island is that big!)

We didn't need to ask the owners for anything but I gather that they go out of their way to help their guests and of course are very knowledgeable about the local area.

Sunny, cool and very windy. Site fairly exposed but the ground I camped on was good with no worries about loose pegs.

The facilities are good for a small site with toilets, showers, washing machine, a dining/sitting room and basic cooking facilities.

The owners were very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended unless you are looking for all mod cons, and a bar and pool, then you are unlikely to be in the Hebrides.

Small site with 5 hardstandings, all with hook ups. Also room for a few tents.

2 toilets and 2 showers, Laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes rack and 'campers kitchen' with microwave, dishwashing and even a table and benches with DVD player (also selection of DVDs).

Friendly owner and lots of local information in the kitchen area, including an Ordnance Survey map on the wall.

Facilities are great but when there were a few tents as well as campervans/caravans, there was a queue for the shower.

Just over a mile from the Heathbank Hotel which serves decent food.

The site is on the east, rocky side of Barra and is quite exposed, as are most campsites on the Western Isles.

Lovely sited site - great for cycling and walking.

Peter & Margaret were wonderful hosts (Peter was a laugh) nothing was too much trouble - we wished we had stayed more than the 4 nights we had here. As was nicer placed than Moorcroft our next site.

Good facilities all you needed and well stocked provisions was an added touch for a great stay - thank you for that.

Would highly recommend this site for motorhomes, caravans and campers alike - just take sturdy pegs as 'windy'

Thank you again to Peter & Margaret and the Dogs for a wonderful holiday - cant wait to come and stay again.

As a bonus we even got to meet Father John Paul from the TV series 'An Island Parish' what a lovely man he was too.

This is a good wee site with helpful friendly owners who have put effort into making your stay easy and enjoyable as well as EHU and dedicated hard standing pitches -they have a useful campers lounge area with information about the island and books / tv.

The facilities are good- the shower was having a leak problem when we visited but that was due to be fixed while we were there -everything was very clean -the toilets are unisex -2 toilets can be used by whoever requires. The toilets were a little bit cold for me -but on the week we were here the wind was pretty steady.

The site is a drive /bus ride away from Castlebay -we had hoped to cycle to there from the site but there is a killer hill between the site and Castlebay and the wind never let up- otherwise you can cycle round the island fairly easily. We ate a pub supper at isle of barra hotel - it was very tasty and quite good value in the bar. We also ate at the heather bank in the next village up -good choice of seafood and fish -Tv /mobile (O2 )reception of Bollnabodach side of the island is not good -but drive round to the Atlantic side it's fine Barra is stunning and we will go back and spend longer and stay here again

A small and exposed site with wonderful views. The owner was very friendly and helpful.

There is a campers' kitchen with a separate dining area, and a laundry room with washer, dryer and sinks.

There is just the 1 toilet and shower, and unfortunately the new wet room is not yet ready since the storm damage on Barra last winter has left a shortage of builders.

We ate Scallop pakoras in Castlebay, and queued for ages in the coop.

The locals are very friendly and enjoy a chat.

We visited the castle in the bay (free to EH members), and enjoyed a circular tour of the island in the van.

I would hope to return.

We really enjoyed using this site. The facilities are super. The very well equipped mini-kitchen with microwave, fridge, toasters etc was great as was the adjoining indoor eating area with games and video. There is also an area just outside the block for eating.

Our hosts gave us a warm welcome and looked after us very well.

We had mixed weather and on the good day we enjoyed superb views from the site and a lovely walk down to the rocky shore. The following day was wet and windy so we enjoyed a day in Castlebay.

There are no shops near the site but the bus stop is about 50 yards from the site and it is a lovely journey to Castlebay and the Co-op. The Co-op receives deliveries every second day by ferry and sometimes at the end of the second day the stock is quite low.

There is a great swimming pool and library [including free internet access] at Castlebay School and there are good places to eat. Our 4 year old enjoyed the lovely swing park and we all enjoyed Feis Bharraigh. A great week of traditional music.

We love Barra and we will be back.

We stayed here for 1 night at the end of May during the worse weather imaginable. We had been due to sail from Barra to Eriskay during the day, having wild camped on Vatersay the night before, but due to the atrocious weather all sailings were cancelled.

The wind and rain were so bad that we were barely able to venture from the motorhome. The site is set quite high up and is fairly exposed so we may well have been blown away if we had!

However what we saw of the little site seemed very nice. The toilets and showers were clean and the man who ran the place very helpful.

The views of the crashing sea from our pitch were amazing. There are only a few sites on Barra so this one with its toilets, showers and EHU certainly fitted the bill.

We would definitely return to Barra as it is a unique and beautiful island which we would love to see during better weather, and we would use this site again.
