A cycle tourist's paradise. A wonderful oasis. Picture perfect. A surprise beyond place I've stayed in Wales. I felt as if I had fallen back in time 200 years.
It's a bit like Alice in Wonderland. There's so much to see in such a small place. Wandering about is a marvellous adventure.
I camped by the Usk, I purchased fresh food from their garden shop, cooked over a small fire. I could have stayed all summer. I wish I had.

Absolutely loved this site, beautiful area and really friendly people although we didn't see many as it is very secluded.
Really loved the organic shop, food to die for all grown locally and available to buy all day. Lovely surroundings although mainly aimed at the older guests, and super facilities including wood burners for rent. I will definitely return asap

What a fabulous site! We visited during the very cold Easter holidays and despite the cold, managed to have a great stay.
The site is really quirky and interesting, set in the spacious grounds of a big old house. Everything is really picturesque and during better weather you could spend your whole holiday exploring the campsite. There is a maze and lots of gardens to explore and they own an extensive bit of woodland which is great to walk around. The river running through the middle is lovely, we will hopefully be back for a swim!
The facilities are great, nice and clean and the showers were very warm - although I could do with a bench. We had them to ourselves because we were mostly the only campers!
The owners were just the right level of attentive. They checked we were ok following the -5C night and offered us more blankets. And being able to have a campfire is lovely when it's cold.
Would definitely recommend this site and we will be back (hopefully in the warm!).

What can I say? An absolutely delightful campsite. Actually an old rose garden, very close to a river. Very pretty, and all in the shadow of a beautiful country house - the grounds of which are open to all.
The shower and toilet block are fabulously clean and well cared for, my only issue was the distance from the camping area to the toilets (especially at 3am), but seriously it's not that much of an issue.
The honesty shop is a lovely idea, and appears to work well, some wonderful pieces of steak and bacon.
Although this site is in a very quiet area Brecon town is only a few miles away. Of course there's everything you could possibly need.

Every year a reasonable size group of friends and family go camping. Because there were plenty of us, when we approached Penpont with their relatively small campsite (10 pitches maximum on average, but has a 'pitch anywhere' style), we were offered to book the site for our exclusive use.
Obviously we jumped at the chance. We ended up as a group of 8 tents for the weekend. It cost £7. 50 per person per night, and £3. 50 per child (2 - 16). Under 2s were free.
The camping area is an old rose garden and the ground is a little uneven and bumpy due to the old foundations, but we all managed to find a flat area. Our tents ranged in size from 2 man to 10 man tents. The camping area is near a rive - not easily accessible from the main area (fortunate when you have a roaming 18 month old!), but a short walk away and you come to a lovely area where more tents could be pitched right next to the river itself.
Penpont is an eccentric site - the old house is prominent, and surrounded not only by the camping area but by manicured lawns, a green man maze, wicker sculptures, hedges shaped into elephants, a Christmas tree field, tennis court, and a walled organic veggie garden! The camping area itself is surrounded by mature trees and makes it a very safe and secure area.
The tennis court is open for anyone to use but you must bring your own equipment and shoes!
The facilities were excellent. The toilet blocks are a short walk over the bridge and along a short path. They have been built and designed in a rustic style (in a good way!) with wooden stable type doors. We ran out of loo paper just the once, but the toilets were always stocked with (the most gorgeous smelling) liquid soap!
There's 2 toilets (1 toilet and urinals in the mens) and 1 shower. Quite small but plenty big enough for a small camp site. There's also a large washing up sink, and they kindly provide washing up liquid and washing up brushes and sponges for everyone to use! Outside the block in the fresh water tap and a variety of bins - they are very keen on recycling and provide plenty of bin bags so you are able t do this.
There are no electric hook up opportunities on the site.
Throughout the summer months they have a very large group awning permanently erected on site - a godsend in the hot sun - the site is a sun trap!
Fires are welcome. They provide a large pile of wood next to the dedicated fire pit (which you then pay for the amount you've used when you leave if you're one big group - we used about £20 worth - 4 bags - over two nights. Very good value when you see how much wood was used!), but there's also fire pits that can be borrowed and wood bought separately if you want your own private fire.
There's an honesty organic farm shop on site stocking jams, veggies, charcoal, eggs, and a variety of meat in the freezer. People come and go to this farm shop all day, so I wouldn't recommend using their freezer for personal items - we put some drinks wrapped in a plastic bag just for a few hours the one day and pushed it to the back out of the way. A couple of our party bought some of the meat and all raved about it!
There's no specific child facilities, but the camping area is very safe and enclosed.
The only real downsides (for us!) was a little bit of road noise from the main road - only noticeable if a rather loud lorry type vehicle went past, and our wake up call at 5am from the birds! Very noisy! But we all went back to sleep without any problems!
Also, because the gardens are open for visitors to wander through, we did have some people wander through the camp. They literally just walked through to the walled garden though. Very politely. (The gardener and the owners wander through too but they're all lovely and very chatty!) No idea if the wanderers were visitors to the shop, or people staying in the B&B on site.
Overall though a beautiful well looked after site - we're definitely going back!
One last comment about the owners - very helpful, chatty but also very much left us to it. Lovely people.
Nearby - you have Brecon just 5 miles away. There's plenty of pubs and restaurants, including Llanfaes Ice Cream parlour, and a few supermarkets, a theatre, and canal. You're also not too far from Craig y Nos Castle, Dan yr Ogof Showcaves, or in the opposite direction Hay on Wye.
