My wife and I along with our 2 Standard Poodles have been caravanning for just over 4 years. Looking for something a bit different and willing to “rough it a bit” we decided to give a CL site a go.
We’ve been married for 39 years and have taken hundreds of holidays mostly abroad but many in the UK and can say in all honesty that we have never enjoyed a holiday more than our recent trip to the Isle of Wight.
We booked our ferry crossing through Red Funnel and after reading the excellent reviews both on the Caravan Club and independent websites settled on Alverstone Ponds for our site.
The Red Funnel operation is superbly efficient. The trepidation I had beforehand about taking our Toyota Landcruiser and large caravan on a ferry was completely unfounded.
The Isle of Wight is a wonderful place to visit. Superb beaches, interesting towns, and beautiful scenery, it has the lot.
For us, the jewel in the crown was definitely the Alverstone Ponds caravan site.
Set in idyllic countryside on the family farm and surrounded by sheep, ducks, chickens and cockerels the location is fantastic.
Pitches are large and 4 of the 5 are on hard standing. Each has it’s own water supply and waste water drainage (they even supply the pipework)
Television reception is good and there’s even free wi-fi available.
For fishermen there are 4 fishing ponds to choose from, and according to local fishermen I spoke to all are stocked with a number of different species.
Cyclists and dog walkers will think they have died and gone to heaven. 50 yards from the site entrance there is a superb 12 mile cycle/dog walking track.
Only 30 yards from the site entrance is a fantastic nature walk where many different species of birds and wildlife can be viewed in their own environment. My wife was lucky enough to see a very rare sight in the UK nowadays. A red squirrel.
The owners Paul and Chris are two of the nicest and hardest working people you could ever wish to meet. They never stop and nothing is too much trouble. It is obvious that they truly enjoy what they do.
We have re-booked for next August and having viewed their bookings for both this year and next it is a good job we did. They have already taken many bookings for Spring and Summer next year so my advice to anyone looking for a beautiful, quiet (adult only) site on the Isle of Wight would be to act quickly. You will not regret it.
We thought we would be roughing it. How wrong we were !

Just returned from our fourth visit to this lovely CL, as always Paul & Chris couldn't do enough to make our stay welcoming, friendly and relaxed as possible. This site has really good sized pitches with own water and grey water disposal, each pitch also has it's own picnic bench and free Wi-Fi which works really well and is a great bonus. The site in general, toilet and chemical disposal point are all kept immaculately clean and are a credit to the owners. I would recommend this site to anyone and would go as far as to say it's the best CL we've stayed on. We're going again in October and we can't wait.

We have just enjoyed a relaxing three night stay and feel we must say what a lovely CL this is. The owners are welcoming and very friendly. The pitches are spacious and have electric hook up, water tap and grey water disposal plus free wifi. The surrounding area is beautiful with many walks and cycle tracks. It's quiet with very little traffic passing. There are chickens running behind a well fenced run which are quite entertaining as our pitch was right next to them. The surrounding fields have horses, and a few sheep. Everything is well thought out as the owners are caravanner's themselves. The toilet and chemical disposal are all spotless.
We highly recommend it, and will return again very soon.

This is a lovely campsite with excellent facilities, tucked away in peaceful area with good walks around the local area and around the fishing lakes. Shops and pubs all within reach a good walk or cycle ride as cycle path very close, cycling to Sandown and shanklin was very easy on the track as it is very flat. The site is very well placed on the island for most attractions. The owners work very hard to ensure all is perfect for your stay.

Quite possibly one of the nicest small sites I have visited. Very peaceful, friendly owners and well organised, comfortable facilities plus great wifi!
All the benefits of a big site on a small one!
The chicken run - with fresh eggs -, fish ponds and nearby cycle track across the Isle of White all add to a fabulous, relaxing location with great views.
Just what a Caravan Club Certified Location should be!

We visited this site with our friends even though we are both islanders as we were curious about a new cl appearing.
After a slightly narrow approach we were greeted with lovely views and a medium size field with very good size pitches.
All had electric hook up there was a couple of picnic benches too.
The owner was very welcoming and showed us where everything was.
The site has toilet facilities but no shower this was kept very clean and was in a log cabin that also contained local information and books for hire.
There is a dog walk and of course fishing though as neither of us are fishermen we can't comment on that only that it looks very peaceful and seems to be popular with locals. It's a 5/10 minute drive to a good size Morrisons which has a petrol station too and there is a nature reserve just up the road. All in all a very nice and peaceful place to stay would thoroughly recommend.
