Superb little find. Very friendly welcome from the reception staff at Alison house.
The site is a simple since it is a certified location, but it is perfectly sufficient. There is a tight turn into Intake lane, but easy enough to negotiate if you are ready for it. It has a spotlessly clean toilet, and the usual service points for waste water and chemical toilet emptying. There are no showers, so you need to be self sufficient for hygiene!
It has “hard standings” with electric hook up. The pitches are not very level so make sure you pack your ramps. The location is beautiful as you look over nothing but green grass and hills.
The site is very conveniently situated. Opposite the entrance to the camping field there is a large children’s play area. If you carry on down through the hotels overflow car park and down this little lane and then turn right onto a path that meanders through the houses you’ll be in the pretty village of Cromford in less than 5 minutes. Here there is a full range of small local stores, pubs and fish & chip shops! There is also a frequent bus service from various locations around the village.
If you exit the site the opposite way via Alison House then Cromford train station is an easy 10min walk. This walk takes you pass the start of the Cromford canal, which is a lovely and easy walk. Cromford train station receives a regular service from Matlock and Nottingham directions. Matlock Bath, for The Heights of Abraham, is one stop up the line. Or if you are feeling more energetic, a 1. 5mile walk to the cable car station via “Lovers Walk”. (If you go by train you get 20% off your ticket for the cable car and excellent exhibitions at Heights of Abraham).
There is also a warm welcome inside Alison house for a nice meal if you fancy a night off cooking.
This is a site I would easily recommend to all.

Stayed here for two nights and what a great location it is, almost in the middle of Cromford village and handy for the main roads, but very quiet at night. The site is attached to a rather upmarket hotel, but is actually just a sloping field behind it. At some time attempts have been made to create level pitches by cutting out the ground and putting in some flagstones, sadly now all looking a bit derelict.
Facilities are strictly CL, with mains hookup to each pitch. The welcome was very friendly, the hotel receptionist a useful source of local information. Digital tv reception was limited to a few channels but was very good.
Local transport is excellent, with buses going in all directions and a rail service to Matlock and Derby 10 min. Walk away.
All in all a site which is probably underused and could certainly benefit from some tlc, but at £12 we liked it and will definitely revisit when in the area.
