We were greeted with a very warm welcome from Theo and Yolanda who gave us an immediate quick tour of all the campsite facilities surrounding their gorgeous home.
Their campsite is truly beautiful adorned with fruit trees, pretty flowers, herbs and shrubs. The pool was really refreshing and kept very clean, along with the small shower/loo block, also kept immaculately clean.
We were pitched on the large field and were very happy with our space as we had a large outfit. There was no wifi actually on our pitch as we were further away from the strongest signal but that didn't matter at all. We have never been on a rural campsite where there is a signal unless you're hovering next to it.
Nightime was extremely quiet with no light pollution either.
Hautefort is a quaint village with a decent supermarket and the magnificent Chateau which is well worth a visit for the small entrance fee.
Yolanda and Theo are so willing, helpful and informative. We will definitely be back.

This is one of the best adult only campsites we have visited, great facilities, great hosts, and the most superb salt water pool that Theo has built and didn't we need it with temperatures in the high thirties.
The pitches are excellent with everything provided, great food provided at communal BBQ All in all this made our holiday so our thanks to you both.

Sadly this did not live up to our expectations, having booked a year in advance we arrived to an abrupt welcome which made us feel very uncomfortable as we were told we were not allowed onto the main part of the site behind the fenced area as we had a dog with us. This is the area where the more level, well tended pitches were, and also the “bistro”where they did table d’hote, swimming pool and showers. Our pitch was on a field outside the gated area which was a slope with just enough space at the bottom to be level for the caravan but our outside table or chairs.
We choose adult only for peace and quiet but the two Caravans at the top of the sloping field were on holiday together and from lunchtime onwards most days the drinking began and the volume increased with their music, shouts and games.
When we raised that we would prefer to be within the main campsite due to our disappointment with our pitch, it was made very clear that nothing would be done, we were told that dogs were not allowed on that side, and that some campers didn’t like dogs, however this didn’t make sense as the owners dog was wondering loose around the site each day, and also there was a camper on the gated side with a dog.
If we had known this beforehand we would not have booked and would have gone elsewhere where our dog was welcome.
WiFi was also promised as part of the cost sadly no WiFi at all on the sloping field perhaps this was again within the gated community.
The positive about the site was that the showers were always clean and tidy.
Would only recommend if you can guarantee you were on a pitch within the gated side, but for us it was a disappointment due to the pitch, the facilities we didn’t have access to due to having a dog with us, and noise levels.

Management response: Sadly this people didn’t read the conditions for bringing the dog (and staying for free !); so they could have known beforehand. In the house-rules, which were send with the booking form, they could have read that dogs are only allowed on the pitch on a leash and if they didn’t agree with that it was still possible to cancel the booking before paying the deposit. Our policy is that dogs are not allowed on the part of the campsite where swimming pool, bistro and sanitary block is. There are rules but as owners we have the right to make an exception. We want space for people with and without dogs.
All our pitches are levelled and well-tended. Also the pitch where these guests stayed near the forest (with a well for cooling off the dog).. The pitch is more than large enough to sit (levelled) in front of your caravan if you don’t put the caravan in the middle of the pitch. We gave those guests a large pitch with a lot of shade for the dog !
We proposed, because we don’t like disappointed guests, to bring the dog when we had a table d’hote evening; they refused ! They could have gone to the pool 1 by 1 or leave the dog in the shade by the caravan where there is no danger at all. They refused all that which was their choice. They had access to all the facilities but not with the dog. It is indeed peaceful and quiet here !! Also when we are fully booked. Everyone enjoys the holiday in his own way. The guests of the two caravans at the top of the field where having their holiday together and playing ‘jeu de boules’. We have no house rules to forbid people to drink; we are an adult only campsite. …. We had no complains about the people from the 2 caravans; they socialised very well. Every evening at 10 pm. it was quiet.
WIFI is not part of the cost but FREE. We don’t promise you can have it on the pitch; sometimes you can but we are not in a city but in the Dordogne where the landscaping can always disturb the signal.
Thanks for the only positive thing about the showers !
Surprising is that somebody of the Office de Tourisme told us that they tended to an activity where they told that they were happy at our campsite………
We want everybody to be happy in our little bit of paradise but apparently this is impossible after reading this review.
Thanks to UK Campsite for the possibility to leave a Manager Response. |

This was our first visit to this caravan / camping site, Theo and Yolanda made us feel so welcome and we could not have asked for more.
The site is peaceful (with just five pitches in the main garden area), the gardens and grass area are well kept and the club room is excellent.
The salt water swimming pool is truly excellent and maintained to a very high standard.
The washroom facilities are spotless with two toilets and showers with lovely hot water.
We stayed for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our entire holiday, it is a tribute to Theo and Yolanda for all the hard work they have put into it over the last fifteen years or so.
Thank you, we will be back !

What beautiful, friendly quiet site. The owners welcomed us on arrival, and couldn't have been more helpful. We were on the 'sunny plateau' and it certainly was very hot and sunny. The showers and loos were spotless. And to be able to use the swimming pool at any time of the day was perfect. The site was spacious and so quiet. At night all you could here were the owels. And the sound of cockerels in the morning. We will definitely return to this beautiful part of France.

We stayed at Grenouille Vacance for 3 wonderful weeks and were sorry when it all had to end. The site is an 8 pitch, adult only site with large pitches and a very inviting saltwater swimming pool. Jolanda and Theo are extremely welcoming and have put a lot of time and love into landscaping the site and providing spotlessly clean facilities. Grenouille Vacance is centrally located for visiting the many pretty villages and attractions in the beautiful Dordogne region and we would not hesitate in recommending that you try it for yourselves.

We have just returned after 3 weeks at this fabulous site. We found Jolanda and Theo so friendly and helpful.
The site has wonderful facilities the showers are very clean and the water was always hot.
The weather was extremely hot and we certainly made full use of the lovely swimming pool.
We also had two very enjoyable evenings where Jolanda did a meal which was excellent and it was a lovely way to mix with the other people on the site.
Jolanda and Theo have worked so hard with the site and have plans to do more work to make even more improvements to their wonderful little site.
Can't wait to return next year as it would be very hard to find another site which has all the facilities we are looking for.

A fantastic site, a small site in beautiful gardens with a swimming pool. A lovely 2 mile walk to Hautefort with several bars and restaurants, bakery and butcher. You can order your bread on site and it will be delivered to the communal hut. 2 spotless showers and toilets and washing up facilities. Jolanda and Theo will go out of your way to make your holiday the best.

This site is a hidden gem, it is small, only about 8 pitches, so if you like the smaller sites, this is for you. We visited for the first 2 weeks in June, and were the only people on the site, which was very nice as we had the pick of the pitches, but what a waste.
The site is normally full later in the season, but if you don't go there during the quieter times you are missing a trick. Other sites in the area were quite busy, so there was no lack of potential customers.
Off the beaten track close to the small town of Hautefort, the site has everything you could want, beautifully kept grounds, perfectly levelled pitches each with a good power supply, spotless toilet block with plentiful hot water for the showers, washing machine and dryer, handy water supply and waste disposal, a lovely swimming pool (perfect on a hot afternoon or warm evening). However the greatest asset is the hosts, their welcome could not be bettered (when we visited there was a road closure, so we were met and guided to the site) We were made to feel more like personal friends rather than paying guests.
Close by is a medium sized supermarket which was well stocked for our needs and, if you want a larger supermarket, they are available a relatively short distance away in Perigueux.
The surrounding area is beautiful, and nearby is the picturesque town of Sarlat and the Cro Magnon historic sites.
Highly recommended, we will be back.
