We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Woodpecker Meadow. We were one of six visitors and Inger, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful. In fact, following an horrendous thunderstorm on Friday evening, she came around on Saturday morning to check that everyone had survived and was ok.
The site was easy to find, the plots flat with mown grass and plenty of room between pitches. A very peaceful site, with all visitors respecting each other's tranquility by not playing radios, etc.
The shower room was adjacent to the owner's property and was fitted with sensor lights for those late night trips to the loo. Both the shower room (shower and toilet) and separate toilet were very clean, however, and this is the only downside, there was only one shower and although there was plenty of hot water, the water pressure was weak. But this one small glitch would not stop us from going back. The same annex housed the washing up sink and a fridge/freezer.
We took our bikes and enjoyed a lovely ride to the Tiptree Jam Factory for a cream tea - highly recommended and there was a Tesco and Asda in Tiptree. Another couple we spoke to went to the Alma pub (approx 1 mile away) and said they had a lovely meal.
All in all, we had a brilliant weekend and are already looking forward to our next free weekend so that we can go back.

A great little site and easy to get to from the A12, only 2 miles away. A basic site but expected from a Camping & Caravan Club CL site. Good flat pitch with lots of space for the children to play. The toilet/shower and washing area are attached to the house and kept warm and very clean.
Colchester city centre was only 15 minutes away and Colchester zoo only 5 minutes. We will use as a base to visit Colchester again.

What a delightful ppeaceful little site. When we booked this there were no reviews so we really didn't know what to expect, however the price was reasonable, owner very helpful by email and the site was conveniently located for what we wanted to do (walk some of The Essex Way) so we just went eith it.
We were met by the very friendly helpful owner who showed us the pitches and let us choose where we wanted to pitch as we were the only ones there for the first night, she then showed us the facilities and gave us a key to enable us to use them overnight.
Spotless toilet with large shower and sink in one room, toilet in another, lovely hot water and a pleasure to be showering somewhere nice and warm!
Grass was nice and flat, very well kept and the meadow was delightful, lots of bird life and we loved watching the squirrel running across the telephone lines.
Obviously, as we were the only ones there, it was extremely peaceful, another two units joined us for Saturday evening but it was still very tranquil and we certainly had a relaxing weekend.
We will definitely be back, a big thanks to the site owner, you have a little gem of a site here

Stayed here for one night before taking M/H to Pullingers for annual habitation service. Pullingers being about 30 mins drive away. We were the only people there.
Very quiet location at the edge of the small village of Easthorpe which we had a walk round. Just a church and pretty old cottages with big open agricultural fields and Essex skies surrounding. The pub that was, is now a private home.
Electric hook-ups on one side and plenty of choice for tents who don't want electric on the other with shelter.
If you are arriving from the A12 go past church, then open agricultural fields on right and when you see the cream house also on the right, slow down as entrance is just past that.
If you are coming from the other direction when you see the thatched cottage on right slow down as otherwise you will miss the entrance on the left.
Grass pitches which were solid and dry for our stay. Double width very clean shower is in a large bathroom with toilet and sink. There is another toilet next to that and washing up sink, freezer and washing machine, and local information all housed in an extension to the cream house.
You are given a key to the extension for night visits. You would be wise to take a torch to walk there and back.
The site itself is close to the house and has lots of different trees along the edges and scattered around which attract wild birds. Surrounded by fields and well back from the very quiet road. Several gates which are closed at night.
Danish owner is very friendly. £13 for the night we stayed with hook-up and two adults.
Lots of footpaths close to site. Nearest pub doing food is probably in Copford where you can possibly also get a bus into Colchester, but check that on Traveline.
This site is very handy for Colchester Zoo and visiting the town itself which has an interesting museum and lots and lots of history and good shopping. The oldest recorded town in Britain.
Also if you were wanting a stop over on route to the ferries.
