Stayed here for 3 nights the location is fine, no views of the sea unless your willing to climb the fort wall in front of you. Has a clubhouse /restaurant but we were not looking for this.
I would say that this park is ok but needs some serious updating all over.
The toilets/showers are too far away from pitches 24/47 cafe shop is ok though bought a loaf of bread only to find it was 11 months out of date(been in the freezer me thinks).
Lots of leaflets available for surrounding areas, the lodges seem to be more focused on.

Site was not looking its best when we were there, not long after all the snow. We were on the so-called super pitches, 23 - 47. Very muddy, though allegedly hardstanding. (They were the kind with a plastic mesh, but it had almost sunk without trace in the mud!) We had hookup, water, and chemical emptying point on our pitch. There were quite a few long-term caravans, not sure whether they were seasonal or residential, although one of them appeared to be running a taxi business!
As for the park enjoying wonderful sea and estuary views, I'm sure it does, but not from the above pitches, unless you can climb on top of your unit! The only view we had was of a grassy bank!
Phone and dongle signal are poor on these pitches, we were the only ones of our group who could get on the internet.
Good things about the site: - bus service to Plymouth which some of our group used; nice heated swimming pool - wish I'd brought my cozzie! Close to the beach if you're fairly fit, and fantastic views of the sea and Plymouth as you walk around the site. Fascinating bits of old fortifications and tunnels to explore.
I think this site really caters for the holiday lodge users, but if you want to be near the sea, a bus route, and have an indoor swimming pool handy, then maybe it's worth a try. Can't comment about the showers and loos, as they were so far away we used our own facilities!

An update for Summer 2010.
We enjoyed 10 days on this site. The toilets and showers are not particularly good re: previous reviews but the owner told us there will be a new shower block for Summer 2011. There is an ongoing regeneration programme, with new lodges being built and more camping / touring pitches being introduced, although these will be terraced into the steep hillside with spectacular views of the bay but at the mercy of the coastal weather!
We stayed on a super pitch on the grass, fully-serviced, with own chemical waste disposal (never had that before!). These pitches were level and the grass was protected with plastic matting to stop the mud churning up. Great pitch with a magnificent coastal view if you scrambled up the bank in front of you.
The campsite was not very busy considering it was in the summer holidays, but we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The bar was good (they do serve meals on real plates now!) There was entertainment for the kids, bingo and quiz nights but not enough interest really. The inside pool was welcome on not so bright days and the shop was ok for basics. The kids were very disappointed with the 'park' which was non-existent really.
The owner took us on a very interesting historic tour of the site which is an ancient fort and showed us what he is doing to restore the monument; they are still finding more tunnels etc.
The walk to the beach is 10 minutes down steep steps and 20 minutes back up! A bit of a trek but well worth it as the bay is beautiful and the beach is flat and sandy.
To sum up: great location, great 360 degree views from the campsite, toilets, showers and park only downside. We would stay there again.

While I agree with other comments about the shower blocks and toilets it wasn't an issue for us as we have our own shower and toilet in our unit. This site seems to be geared towards tourers and not campers and generally they have their own facilities.
We had the only pitch with a view and it was back towards Dartmoor & Plymouth and was quite spectacular.
The site now has a Cafe next to the pool which is open all day every day, both of which kept the kids entertained for our stay.
The beaches are only mins away on foot or a quick drive which is why we chose this site.
The focus does appear to be on the new lodges at present but we wanted a nice, quiet site close to a beach and that's exactly what we got!

Whitsand Bay was my first site visited with a motorhome. I used to come here for holidays many years ago when there were static caravans. It was used to be incredibly busy, with lively bar and entertainment.
Static caravans have now all gone, replaced with more modern vans with timber cladding on them.
There are pitches with hardstanding that are close to being level with electric and nearby water and emptying points. Given that these hardstandings are where they used to have static caravans, I can't understand why they are not fully serviced. There are also grass pitches that are fully serviced.
We were there just after the August bank holiday and the very start of September and there were three of us on the hardstanding and one on the grass. There were very few people in the lodges, so the place seemed deserted which was very strange.
The toilet and shower facilities are as detailed in the other reviews (four rooms each with toilet, basin and shower), that were fairly clean, but not great.
We tried the bar one night and it was pretty much the same as when I last went there in 1994, including the menu! They were only able to serve food in takeaway containers, even if you want to eat in the bar. I doubt many of their upmarket lodge customers would want to step foot in there.
The area is fantastic with beautiful views (although not from the pitches). Nice bars / restaurants / cafes to be found nearby in Cawsand and Millbrook.
I went there with fairly high expectations but was disappointed, especially as it was quite expensive compared to other sites.

This campsite is in first world war gun emplacement and some of the caravan pitches the view is concrete walls!
Campsite has 45 pitches and only 4 toilets with combined showers so if 4 people are showering, there are no toilets to use and never hand soap in them. No dishwashing facilities, the place has no sea views from pitches and the children's playarea very poor. On our 3 day visit we were placed on the wrong pitch and then asked to move the next day.

This is a holiday park with a few rather unusual caravan / motorhome pitches. The pitches are laid out inside a set of nineteenth century fortifications on top of the cliffs overlooking Whitsand Bay. You cannot see the sea from the pitches as the fortifications obscure the view south, however there are good views to be had across Plymouth to the Tamar Bridge, pitch number 4 is the best. Pitches have electricity, some have their own tap and drain, otherwise there are a few toilet emptying points and taps but no motorhome specific disposal point. The toilet / shower facilities consist of four rooms each containing a shower, toilet and wash basin, with one being fitted out to assist people with restricted mobility. We were there in February and the site was not busy, the shower / toilet rooms were chilly but adequate in number, however that may not be sufficient or practical in high season.
The holiday lodges are terraced and are below the area set aside for tourers and are not particularly visible.

Journey down from wales was a torture, site directions leave a lot to be desired one wrong turn took us down a very narrow country lane. Site itself was dubious, toilet and shower facilities mediocre at best. The kids were not impressed with the pool at all. Saying that the scenery [we were facing inland] was stunning with great views of Plymouth. Plenty to do in the surrounding area with good pub food to be had. Overall we enjoyed our visit as we only used the site as a base but if I had to stay on site it would become rapidly very tedious.

Oh dear - what a disappointment! We had a brilliant week back in 2003 at this site and returned looking for more of the same. It's now basically just a building site for pine lodges. All the entertainment was gone, along with the takeaway. The remaining bar had no ice, no drinking straws and just one person serving. The "kids bar" - very much a favourite of ours last time - was all but abandoned. The pool is still there and OK, but the sauna was locked up & showers stone cold. The touring pitches have been moved to make way for more lodges. The pitch was fine - a standard electric hookup and water nearby, but the toilet block hasn't moved so was one heck of a walk. The place just felt deserted and dilapidated, which was amazing for the August Bank Holiday weekend. Dozens of static vans have been removed, leaving behind slabs and rubble everywhere. In fairness the owners have tried to fence off some areas, but we certainly weren't comfortable letting the kids explore the site. Sorry, but we won't be going back.

August 2004 Well the brochure looked good!! The whole site was a lot smaller than the brochure (artistic licencse) The playing field for children was covered in hardcore it must have been an over flow field for tents at some point. The toilet blocks were not the cleanest, when we complained about the lack of toilet paper we were told they had no cleaner and apologised. Then we saw a note in the toilet block with a mop & bucket underneath stating left for your convienence!!! The evening entertainment was just below average including Pedro the Pirate!!but..... the swimming pool was great, the short walk to the beach was a mountain descent for the agile and fit !!!The bistro on the first night we were served by fellow campers because the owner could not cope with the demand !! enough said about this holiday......and this site..
