This is a very nice site as it states, on the side of a hill. It is particularly nice because it offers small areas of 3 or 4 pitches rather than one big site. Previous reviews have stated that it is a fair hike to the shower block. I do not agree but then I like walking. If you are older and prefer not to walk then you will need a pitch on the green at the top of the hill.
This site for me is one that we will visit for a long weekend maximum. We only live 1hr away so it was a nice break for us, but I wouldn't like to stay there much longer due to having to travel to see POI's.
There is a dog walk to the side of the site, which I can imagine will get quite overgrown in the summer months.
A nice dog walk is at Danebury hill fort about 10 mins down the road.
All in all a great little site and we will definitely be going back. I can't judge the toilet blocks etc as we use our own.

A very quiet site with a wide choice of pitches although some are a good hike from the toilet block and those lower down in the woods feel rather dark even in the bright sunshine.
The facilities were spotless and wardens friendly but do insist on the after 12 o'clock arrival and you can see why as the access road is very narrow and not at all easy to spot on the brow of a hill so take care!
The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and it's an easy drive to the New Forest too. Salisbury itself has a lot to offer too.

A fabulous site! As the names suggests it is on a hill side so no good for anyone unable to walk up and down hills - the toilet block is at the top of the site so can be a bit of a trek if you are pitched at the bottom! Facilities spotlessly clean and the standard you would expect from a Caravan Club site.
The layout is very good - all little glades so you don't get the feeling that you are on a large site at all. We pitched in a grassy glade with only 2 other vans and it made for an idylic weekend. Dog walk adjacent to the site along a lengthy footpath which then opens out into a field so they can have a good run.
You will need to use your car as there is nothing within easy walking distance of the site. Frigsbury ring and Danebury Hill Fort are within easy driving distance.
Site wardens (relief wardens due to illness) were extremely friendly & helpful - best we have come across - had come up from the Black Knowl site.
Highly recommended for a relaxing get away from it all weekend or few days. We will definitely be back at some point!

We stayed at this lovely site near salisbury on route to Brittany for 3 nights and liked salisbury and the surrounding area so much we wished we could have stayed for longer , the site itself is about 7 miles from the town on the andover road and is set in rolling wiltshire countryside and has a lovely spotless clean modern washblock , the wardens were very helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
If you are looking for a supermarket then tesco's in salisbury is easy to find , we took the bus into the town which passes by the site entrance on regular intervals and drops you right in the town centre rather as bother with trying to find a parking space
This site would probably appeal more to adults than familys with young children
Will definitely return again

We spent a week here and absolutely loved it.
A very quiet site with new modern facilities. The shower block was as good as we've seen anywhere and always spotlessly clean.
The whole site was kept in immaculate condition and we really could not fault it, likewise the on-site managers were always to hand and full of useful information.
Probably not a good site for active kids but superb for any one looking for total peace and quiet.
We found it a perfect site to go out and tour Wiltshire and Hampshire from as it sits right on the border, while there we went to Stone Henge, Salisbury cathedral, the canals at Devizes, biked around the new forest, and generally enjoyed the beautiful countryside.
We'll be going back many times in the future.

March 2005 As noted in the previous review, the site is small and for CC club members only, with no tent camping.
The site is built on a hillside (hence the name) and consists of small areas, typically 3 or 4 pitches, although one has 6 pitches and a couple have room for just 2 pitches. There are about 7 hardstandings. Many of the areas are tucked away in the trees, and you'll often find wildlife pecking or scurrying around your door. The pitches at the top of the site are more open and have better TV reception.
The butcher and milk/newspaperman no longer call however. The site shop stocks milk 3 times a week and there is a petrol station/shop a short drive or longer walk along a byway away.
Another review elsewhere led me to believe the facilities were pretty basic, so I was pleasantly surprised to find they'd had their toilet block rebuilt last year - lovely showers, with hand rails and temperature control, disabled block, small veg prep and dishwashing area and a laundry with washing machine and dryer.
Wardens are very friendly and happy to help with anything you need.
The site is very quiet and rural, and probably not the best one for small children as there is little to amuse them, but for people who want a bit of peace and quiet, a short distance from Wiltshire and Hampshire's attractions, it's perfect.

May 2003 Hillside, as it's name suggests, is set on a hill with secluded, tiered lawns set in trees that have between 2 and 6 pitches on them. Plenty of water/cc points and a MV service point. Friendly Wardens and small shop, the toilet blocks are small but well kept and have showers. Milkman comes around the site every day except Sunday and papers can be ordered from him and a butcher's van comes a couple of times a week. Garage a couple of minutes away by car has small supermarket. Dog walk on site and bus stop for Salisbury near the main gate. Pubs with food a couple of minutes by car towards Salisbury (The Pheasant) or Middle Wallop (The George). CC members only and no tents allowed. We really enjoyed our week long stay here, and would use the site again.
