 Having visited many sites in the New Forest, we decided to try Matley Wood. There are no facilities other than fresh water, and chemical disposal, but the scenery more than makes up for this. Our outfit is a Swift Kontiki motorhome and our main priority is somewhere level, and dry (any motorhomes that have had to be towed off a soggy pitch will sympathise!). This site does flood in parts during heavy rain, by there are areas of gravel that will accommodate a motorhome.
There is a lovely walk through the woods to a stream which is very popular with children and dogs.
The warden is very helpful, and unobtrusive, but will leave a reminder under your wiper telling you he knows you are there, and not booked in. There are many cycle tracks about and it is possible to cycle to Brockenhurst avoiding roads.
Lyndhurst is just a few minutes up the road, with plenty of parking for motorhomes, shops, restaurants etc. I would definitely visit this site again, but beware of the midgies at Easter!
