I can't believe I'm on the same site as other reviewers. We stayed riverside in a motorhome and was pleased with our pitch, which gave brilliant views of the Canadian geese, swans and all the traffic on the river. A couple of hundred yards walk from the van took us to the boats for a river trip with a running commentary which was interesting. On our return we were able to go to the pub (about a 100 yards) and have a snack. There is an amusement arcade, ice cream and plenty of space for picnics with tables. It is a bit tired but clean. We shall definitely return!

I was going to symonds yat east and went to the wrong site, I arrived and I was welcomed by a nice man very friendly and helpful, my pitch was great under a tree with lots of space around me.
The toilets were fine, the shower was hot and powerful enough (my pound lasted longer than my 8 minute shower).
There is a bar/bistro and another bar next door, all staff were nice and friendly, the food was good enough, nothing spectacular but no complaints, the beer was cold and £3 a pint (good enough).
There's a fridge and a washing machine and washing up facilities, the waters very hot!
The toilets we're cleaned regularly and always had toilet roll (it's the little things).
I left my essentials in the fridge and my beer & wine for 4 days without a problem.
All in all I loved the place as it's a small slice of British paradise with fantastic scenery.
Charging my phone was not a problem weather in the bar or the office or even in one of the seasonal residents caravans, everyone was glad to make my stay better, the arcade will be great for the kids and I recommend you try out the canoeing, very pleasant indeed.
This is my opinion only but I'll be returning soon
Oh and wifi over a lot of the camp the office wifi and the Bistro bar have it (free)
Also the Bistro owner made a decent effort for the football massive screen free chips can't be bad

We have used this site on numerous occasions and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Whilst the toilet and shower facilities are basic they are always clean and tidy and the pub and cafe on site are both very welcoming. The area has something to offer to young and old and the hotel outside the site offers reasonably priced food and drink. I would recommend this site and will be going back this year.

Spent two days here for a relaxing break. We set up our tent and somebody else set up next to us which left enough space for us both, we went for a walk to return to a camper van squeezed between us, which left about 4 foot between us so put table and chairs. This carried on for 2 days, squeeze as many as you can on the field, small scruffy outdated toilets and showers, 1 pound for a shower. The worse was at night when 3 families in camper vans set up there own encampment and thought it was a good idea to play there music out of the back of there van as loud as possible at 1 o'clock in the morning. Had no sleep for two nights, phoned the manager and was ignored, all in all a bad experience.

My husband and I stopped here for 4 nights over the Easter break. As my husband is an avid canoeist this was perfect for him.
We were given permission to use the slipway whenever we wanted without an additional charge. This was ideal as my husband was on the river everyday!
We had a riverside pitch and I have to say it was perfect. A lovely clean site with friendly and helpful staff. The pub, cafe and amusements on site are good. The decor looks new and the food and prices were good.
The only criticism I have are the shower/toilet block. Although they are clean, the 2 showers are small and there is no room to change. I also think charging £1 for 8-10 minutes is a little expensive. My only suggestion would be to update the facilities.
Will definitely go back again.

Stayed here for 3 nights - mostly in the rain!
The camp site staff were very friendly and helpful. Checking in was quick and easy. There were showers and toilets - both of which were clean and had cleaners in attendance regularly.
There were washing up facilities and a fridge for use.
On site, there was an amusement arcade, shop, cafe and pub but these seemed a little dated. They were away from the main camping section, so did not effect us in any way.
We hired a canoe on site and again, helpful and friendly staff. Enjoyable trip on the river.
All in all, a good site to stay with the family.

Awful site, very run down pitches, electric hook up places awful!
up against a run down chalet type building so your van backs up to the window!
Facilities were extremely grotty, my husband used them once we used the loo in the pub down the road after that.
Glad we were only there 1 night.
Symonds yat west is run down and tacky in comparison to symonds yat east, would look for a site at symonds yat east next time.
The other good reviews of this site might be referring to the seasonal pitches, as they had a separate shower and toilet block entered using a key code, perhaps they were better!
The only positive was that the young girl on reception was very helpful.

Stayed here for the August bank holiday until the tuesday. It rained on and off for the long weekend which couldn't be helped but I did find the site to be very run down and tacky. Lots of run down buildings, ponds, shops and a derelict fair ride. Due to the amount of rain over the weekend the ground was very boggy and water logged. I think the worst part was the showers they were very run down, they were cleaned everyday but it was a bit slap dash. Toothpaste still in sinks, a lot of hair around etc. The showers were so small you had to undress in the actual shower, the showers run for a while but they do cost £1, which I feel is a little steep. They were hot to start then run cold. They then took a while to get hot again, when they did the £1 run out! Very frustrating when covered in soap.
The wardens on the site were helpful and we were quite free to do what we wanted. The site need s a lot of TLC and money spent on getting it back to its standard it possibly was many years ago. The site is an excellent location and we went on a lovely walk up river to Saracens Head Inn where we had a lovely pub lunch alfresco. We also went Canoeing on site which was lovely as they take you up river and end back at the site. Old Court Hotel is beautiful as well situated at the end of the site.
General feeling from our friends who also came, was that we wouldn't return. Which is a shame as the location is excellent.

We stayed here after not being able to get in a nearby campsite and it actually turned out a lot better than our previous choice.
We stayed 2 nights. The shop had basic supplies and there was a bar and restaurant next door. There is also an amusement arcade next door but it's not intrusive - I don't think it's part of the campsite.
The facilities, although dated, were clean and acceptable. There is also a laundry room with a fridge/freezer that can be used. The staff were pleasant & helpful.
Boat trips on the river adjacent to the site and plenty of walks nearby.
£14 per night for motorhome & two people was good value. Although you are supposed to leave by 11am we were not hassled at all and ended up staying an extra night, not booking until 5pm.

Me and my daughter wanted a nice camp by the river and picked this place due to its location but read some reviews and went with a open mind.
We got there and paid for our pitch and was more than happy with the service from the campsite, the amusements were great with the funfair open on busy days!
The new cafe on site gave very nice food and the staff was more than happy to chat and advise on our trips out.
The boat trip was good fun as was the local maze.
The shop is full of all needed plus the bar is very nice with bar staff chatty.
Me and my daughter was well looked after and for the price we thought it was great value.
The bath rooms and toilets was clean and smelt that way, but they do look a bit dated, but it cant be all perfect! I will return!
