August 2004 Relatively easy to find. It is sign-posted but it was chucking it down with rain when we went and I missed the sign. Anyway, we camped in our four man tent in the Top Field (north of the road), a short walk (approx. 70metres) from toilet block, showers, washing-up sink, shop, etc. (There is a drinking water point in the Top Field though) BEWARE: The road crosses your walk to and from these facilities so please be extra careful when crossing - probably not recommended for young children - you should probably ask to be in the other field which is the opposite side of the block, and therefore you don't need to go near the road! We weren't informed that we needed specific coinage for the showers, hot water, etc. which was a bit annoying as we didn't realise until we went to use it that we didn't have the right change. Showers use 3 x 10p, Hot water for washing up uses 1 x 20p, Hairdryer uses 1 x 20p. Washing machine costs £1.60p (£1 and 3 x 20p) Don't forget your washing powder!. Tumble Drier is £1. I think there's a socket for ironing too which I think was 1 x 20p-but we didn't use that. The manager ALWAYS seemed to be around - nice to know that someone's keeping an eye out whilst you're not there - but a bit claustrophobic when he's always on the prowl wanting to chat about the weather. There's not a lot in the on-site shop here - there's a big store in Crantock village - 3 mins in car eastwards (20-25 min walk, so I was informed). Crantock Beach is really nice - Expensive to park (NT property) or if that is full, as it was when we went, you can park behind the shop to the right before the NT car park for about £3 - £5 (Sorry can't remember how much now). It can be a bit of a trek to the sea from the dry bit of the beach - but I'd say it's worth it. It was really windy when we went (so good for surfing) and there's a hire place conveniently located where we managed to hire a windbreak for £4 (got £2 back on return). They also hire out wetsuits, deckchairs, surfboards, etc. at reasonable prices.

July 2001 and August 2003 Have visited Crantock Plains twice now. Good for low budget camping with loads of space. Stayed on the overflow field both times which is over the road from the main site - and it is just a field. We took a twelve man dome tent which easily fit on the pitch with my car.
Facilities very basic. You have to pay for showers, hot water for washing up, washing machines, dryer and hair dryer - doesn't cost the earth but save some 10ps and 20ps before you go. Having to pay for these facilities is reflected in the price to stay here.
Shower blocks are cleaned once a day which is not enough especially when it has rained. Often running out of loo roll and hand towels. The most annoying thing is the main lights go out in the toilet and shower blocks at 9.30pm leaving one single light for the whole block - which is really bad when you are half way through a shower and also showering your young nephew as I was. Also not very comforting if you need to go to the loo in the night as the cubicles are very dark.
The overflow field has no lighting at night so is pitch black wouldn't walk to the main site alone.
Childrens facilities - swing and games room.
Would stay again as you get loads of space - have driven around other sites and they are very overcrowded. Young children are safe on this site. Only problem would be crossing the small lane to main site.
