We are regular visitors to this beautiful site right next to a stunning Cornish beach!
You can book online or by telephone or out of season just turn up, which is what we did this weekend. Plenty of choice of pitches even though they had 2 separate rallies going on.
OK it's not a cheap site, we paid £25 per night in May on grass with electric, 2 adults in a motorhome, but you get what you pay for. We did have a 'star' pitch, by the stream, which incurs and extra £1 per night.
Lots of bins and water points around the site. Excellent, clean toilet/shower block including a laundry and under cover washing up area.
Short walk to the beach with great pub (The Mermaid). Lovely walks along the coast path either into Newquay town/beaches or Watergate Bay straight from the site or there's a bus stop right outside the site if you're not able!
We had (as we always seem to do!) an Indian takeaway delivered to the site by the Maharaja Restaurant. Excellent as always.
We love it here and will continue to not only recommend it to our camping pals but to revisit time and time again ourselves!

I have just returned from a 2 week holiday here. The site is located in a great location for the beach, saving a great deal of money on parking charges. The staff are extremely polite and helpful, shower block is clean and tidy. Handy launderette on site, as we only took weeks worth of clothes. Pitches are level and drain well even after 12 hours of heavy rain. Could do with a play area for the kids as it is mainly used by families. Newquay is not a far walk over the beach and cliff tops. Mermaid pub across the road does good food at reasonable prices, and let's the kids stay in all night in the family room which has evening entertainment on most nights. A handy site to get to other places around Cornwall.

Great location right by the beach with the road and a car park running between the beach and the site. Stayed 3 nights in July 2 adults and a dog. Site level grass with some hard standings, liked fact you can book pitch type. Good shower facilities, noticed a laundry room and pot wash but used neither. There is a small reception. You pay for wifi and it's not cheap but the Mermaid pub directly across the road has it for free, it's dog friendly and has a terrace round the back which backs onto the beach. Food OK, caters for families and is dog friendly. Cliff path walk of c. 20 mins to Newquay, bus also goes from site gate. Lovely walk the other way to Watergate bay. Beach directly opposite site is not dog friendly, but the next one round headland is.

I'm currently staying at this site again, having reviewed it here last year. The site has had some redevelopment work done since last year, and now has the addition of a quite a lot of static caravans and a couple of wooden camping 'pods' too. Sadly this appears to have all been built on the site of the children's play area, which means that children now have nowhere to play, and so seem to congregate around the toilet & shower block instead. Despite the 'no ball games' signs, unsupervised children now regularly kick balls against the toilet/shower block wall, the staff don't seem to do anything about it and so using the facilities or dishwashing area involves the many dodging footballs.
Last year I found the toilet/shower block to be utterly spotless, but this year it's gone downhill a little. The showers are not as clean and the mop and bucket for moping out your shower cubicle before/after use now seems permanently filled with dirty water. Some clean water with a little disinfectant in and a sign encouraging people to mop out their shower after use would improve matters considerably. The toilet cubicles also regularly have no toilet paper in them. A site this size with this volume of peak season traffic really needs cleaners/ attendants on site throughout the day, not just a contractor for a few hours each morning, which appears to be the case here.
The location of the site remains outstanding due to it's close proximity to both Newquay and the beach, but the proprietors really do seem to have 'taken their eye off the ball' with the place recently. We've now found another site in the Newquay area for our trip next year, so we won't be staying here at Porth Beach again.

Just returned from a fantastic week at this site in our Pennine folding camper. The sites location couldn't get any better, with a beautiful beach on the doorstep, (good for body boarding)and a stream, ideal for little ones. The site was well laid out with clearly marked, large pitches; the facilities block was excellent, my only tiny gripe was that the toilets were rather high (I am 5ft 7')and only tip toes touched the floor, my daughter (18years old) who is somewhat smaller really struggled so I expect young ones would need adult help.
The only fault we could really find with the site was the washing up facilities, there were only 3 sinks, always queues, and not the easiest to keep clean (often had to clean them before washing up the dishes) 3 sinks is not enough for the size of the site. Having said that, we will definitely return.

This is a basic holiday site, expensive for what is on site £26 a night! the plots are to small & to close together.
The toilet block is very new & clean & the best bit of the site!
We stayed for 2 nights & that was enough, we wanted to visit Newquay & we loved that & in truth the site did the job of somewhere to pitch.
Mermaid pub did good grub & was a great place to sit out side & eat over looking the beach.

We stayed here in September when it was extremely windy.
The site is really lovely, very quiet & picturesque. The play are wasn't really that good at the point of our visit, our children were quite bored with it but having the beach a stones throw from the tent made the kids day.
The shower block was superb! It was always clean, always warm & the showers were excellent. Very impressed.
The laundry block was good, just a little expensive.
My main complaint was our plot, we were literally positioned at the end of what is effectively a wind tunnel. Because of this our tent was blown to shreds. We had to cut our holiday short because the tent broke & we couldn't cook. I'm not entirely sure a different plot would have been better, however the plots along the edge that the toilet block was on was much more sheltered than where we were.
It's not put us off though. The location was brilliant, we have a new, more weather proofed tent & will be going back. It's a good campsite & one I do recommend to other people.
The staff were friendly & helpful too.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August and can honestly say we never encountered any of the problems the 'WebbyFamily' did. We booked online without any problem, pitch sizes and prices are clearly stated. On arrival we found the staff to be polite and helpful a map was provided showing pitch numbers as well as toilet block and drinking water tap locations.
Pitches are colour coded in order of size, red, green, yellow and blue, with red being the smallest and blue the largest. We had booked a 'Green' pitch which easily accommodated our 9m x 4m tent, car and we still had a 4 metre gap to the next tent, hardly what you would call a small pitch.
In the 2 weeks we were there the toilet block was always clean, that includes the Mens and the Ladies, never had any bad smells emanating from the drains and remember this is peak season.
As others have said there are no facilities on site but the shop and pub are just a couple of minutes walk away as is the pub and restaurant with an additional cafe located across the other side of the beach.
Yes its not cheap, but then this is Cornwall and it is after all peak season. Is it worth the money yes most definitely, nice clean site in a fantastic location so 9 stars from us.
PS. Already booked again for 2014

A lovely site in a great location.
BUT, I do not understand the high praise given out to the shower/loos. They are not the cleanest. They are just not cleaned often or thoroughly enough. They are full of sand, hair etc. And they seriously need a deep clean. And one dirty mop, full of hair, is just not enough for campers to use. Whilst showering someone in the next cubicle thought it was ok to urinate which came into my space. Yuk.
Also, in the ladies showers is an area for bathing babies. There are signs up stating that anyone found using this area for any other action would be severely dealt with. When I challenged a woman for cleaning her child's shoes in it, I was given an absolute mouth full. So don't go if you want to wash your baby.
There are stand pipes situated around the site for campers to fill up containers with water. These were used by some people for cleaning wet suits, shoes etc. Surely they must know this is not healthy. Could the site owners please put notices up to this effect and provide an area for cleaning these items.
Other than the above, we had a fantastic time and would not hesitate to return.

Not the cheapest, but a great site, and a really great location!
It's a very busy place in peak season, during the day it's relatively quiet but at around 5pm it comes alive, as all the families return from the beach and various days out. So a really good place to stay for families, but probably best avoided in peak season, if you don't have kids. Despite being busy during the day, the site soon quietens down at night, so there's no problem getting small children to sleep.
The location is fantastic, as it's directly opposite/just across the road from the beach, you can even hear the sound of the waves crashing from the campsite. This means that you can just walk down to the beach, so no need to drive anywhere, pay for parking, or get sand in the car. Porth is a great beach, with a stream running through it that kids love to play in, it also has decent surf with lifeguards patrolling in peak season, so a safe place to swim and bodyboard. Watergate bay which is the next bay along, is much better for actual surfing though as there is a lot more room. Newquay town centre is about a twenty minute walk away so again no need to use the car if you don't mind a walk.
The site toilet/shower block is one of the best I've ever seen and is spotless even despite the high volume of users in peak season. The site doesn't have a shop, but there is one just outside the main gate that caters for both campers and beach goers. The site laundrette is well equipped, but quite expensive at £5 per wash and £1per 10 mins for tumble drying.
Porth Beach is certainly where we'll be staying when visiting Newquay from now on!
