We chose this site as a stopover en-route to and from Scotland and quite enjoyed our stay. It was easy to find, the wardens were quite helpful and best of all, the location was very peaceful. It appeared an ideal place for hikers and a good centre for exploring some of the Lake District. The shower block is roomy, warm and very clean but it was quite a hike to the toilet disposal point. Each pitch has its own electricity and water point close at hand which I found quite useful, especially as our van got pretty dirty during our weeks touring. Take an external floor mat for your feet, the grey shale tends to get everywhere.

We spent a week here in June and booked at the last minute. The site was easy to find, and the access was easy. Upon arrival we were shown to our pitch, and told of the rules and regulations, we got the impression that the warden would rather be somewhere else, and to be honest did not find them particularly friendly. The pitches were laid out in small cul de sac areas, so most of the vans were facing each other. The pitch just big enough for our van and awning, but the car had to be parked across in front of the van, when it was busy at the weekends the cars did spoil the layout. The pitch was shale and not level, and it took some time levelling the van. Even though the pitch was fully serviced, the grey waste drainage strangely was up the bank above the van, so it was of no use to us. The toilet and showers are the best we have come across. The dog walk on the site, was more of a shale path that went nowhere, and was not very pleasant, however I would say that in years to come it probably will improve, when more of the shrubs and trees that have been planted get more established. This site is more suited to seasonal tourers, as most of the vans on the site were seasonal.

This site has great access from A66, approximately 4 miles from the M6. Turn off the A66 and then the site is up a wide lane on the left hand side. Entrance to the site is via a sophisticated rising bollard/traffic light system and you get a unique code for entry/exit. Friendly owners, well stocked shop, and when you book in you can order a newspaper for the next day! We had a grass (fully serviced) pitch which we really liked as it was next to the small play area, which although had limited play equipment is sited next to a wooded area where the children went off to build a den! Most pitches are hard standing and situated in different circular areas around the site. The shower block is one of the nicest I have seen and is heated. Yes, there are only 2 showers, but I normally shower in the evening so not a problem. This is a very quiet site which is mainly tourers, but there are some log cabins also situated on this site. There is a 10pm curfew for noise which is great. Surrounding area - The Rhedeg visitors centre is about 3 miles away and obviously Keswick, Penrith and Ullswater are also nearby. I would recommend this site and will return.

I was a little disappointed here. True it is a well kept site, in a clearing in a forested area, with some nice views, facilities immaculately kept (although small), which even included a drying room. However the hard stand pitches are shale and none seemed level. Our pitch was small and we could not have put up an awning. £15 per night seemed a trifle expensive for 2 in a VW Camper (or am I biased, having just spent a number of nights at CCC sites having age concession).

September 2005 Just returned from a peaceful week at Flusco Wood. The site is very quiet (no noise after 10pm rule), which suited us, with 2 young children. The shower block was very clean. A good base for site seeing the Lakes. Could do with a bigger play area (only 2 swings and a small climbing frame). Will definitely visit again.

September 2004 Spent 3 very relaxing nights at this lovely quiet site, nice big fully serviced pitches, lovely surroundings, immaculate toilet/ washroom facilities, and a nice shop selling the essentials, we were there out of high season and I suppose the toilet block may get busy at peak times are there are only 2 shower and toilet cubicles. I will definately return this year.

March 2005 As a regular user of flusco, I can only give praise for the high standard of cleanliness. This is a lovely site with a small play area for the children, it also has a dog walking area in woods, wich is a bit thinner now due to the reacent bad winds. The warden and his wife are very friendly. The site has a small shop wich is adequately stocked with the essentals. The pitches are well spaced out so you don't feel like you are squashed next to your neighbour and many are now hard standing.

July 2004 Very clean site with new shower block which was kept immaculate. the owners were friendly and the site is accesable for larger vans with no narrow roads. it cost us £18 per night which included your vehicle 2 people an awning and electrics. The pitches are all fully serviced with your own water supply and grey waste drain.
