We all loved this campsite, the facilities were great and so near to a lovely safe beach. The pools were nice, the shop was well stocked the restaurant food was very good.
We cycled around the area on the many cycle pathways which were great for our kids, the nearest town was only a 15minute cycle and it had a great market and foodhall.
The campsite sanitary facilities were kept very clean despite high season and a full campsite. All in all an excellent campsite.

Arrived at this site having left another after only 1 night. When first told the cost of 29 euro per night ready to leave but when informed about the membership card for 35 euro which runs for 2 years and brings the cost down to 14 euro decided to stop for 5 days which quickly became 7.What a fantastic island and camp site.Toilets and showers fantastic, own beach,2 swimming pools,Bar,shop,Restaurant.Select your own pitch. Cycled all over the island on traffic free lanes. The only thing that did surprise me was they booked about 100 young people to stay in the huts they hire out who could be a bit noisy but caused us no problems.Electric and water to each pitch. Motorhome service point on site.I will be returning.

We went to camping interlude with canvas, what a fantastic holiday. We have three young children and we took all of our bikes with us and for the two youngest, out of the site, we hired a trailer for visits to the main towns, as too far for them to ride as only 4yrs old. Great pools, lovely beach which was great for young children. Such a friendly site and very very clean. Supermarket is only a short drive away and shop on site held most essentials but was cheaper to stock up at supermarket. Kids made great friends and we all enjoyed the relaxed life, only used car once to go shopping and biked everywhere. We thought the bikes to hire were a little expensive for all 5 of us, but plenty to hire and trailer hired was invaluable.
We loved it so much we are going back this August.

This very friendly site is set in pine forests and very well laid out. The pitches are sandy and are a good size. The toilet / washing facilities are good and cleaned regularly.
There is a good shop (didn’t sell ice), 2 pools (1 covered & 1 outdoor), a restaurant, and the public beach is about 50m from the site. The shop is not at reception but is set a little way from it on the way to the beach, which is a 5 min walk from certain pitches
The staff on reception were very friendly.
The Island is very flat and bicycle hire is the order of the day. The camp hires bikes out relatively cheaply.
The island has several good supermarkets and some of the small villages are stunning with good markets and shops, and La Rochelle is a 30 min drive and well worth a visit
This is a great campsite for all ages with excellent facilities

This is a fabulous site.
We hadn't booked, and arrived in early September to still find the site pretty full. We were offered our pick of about 6 available pitches.
There is plenty of shade for all, and the site was very peaceful. Shower block was great - with very large, clean cubicles which made washing and dressing two young children very easy. As it was the end of the season the site was beginning to wind down -the take away cabins (selling pizzas, cooked chickens etc) were all closed.
The shop on site has everything you need - but be early as with our dawdling toddlers the pain au chocolate had sold out by the time we made it in the morning.
All of the pitches are hedged, giving plenty of privacy. And on sand - though we were grateful of our metal mallet as some of the ground was pretty tough.
The site leads directly on to a sandy beach. Itit a great beach for youngsters as it is gently shelving.I think it can get pretty windy on the beach on times - but nothing that a good windbreak can't protect you from (how very British!).
The island is gorgeous, and with no point over 16 metres above sea level is just perfect for cycling.Everyone cycles everywhere.
We'll definitely be going back. We bought an Sunelia loyalty card for 35 euros, which is valid until December 2008. This entitles us to not pay any admin fee, and any pitch we book in this site or any other Sunelia site outside peak season would only cost 14.90 per night. We covered the cost with this trip alone.
So with walking to the beach and cycling to the market there is no need to get into your car for the whole holiday. Heaven!

UPDATE Went back to this site this year, again with Eurocamp. Consistently great! All of the below still applies. However, due to good reviews in many national papers and of course my great review, the site is now wall to wall british people. I don't suppose the site knew what hit them. Is this a good or a bad point, that's for you to decide.

Perfect location, next to a nice beach, very tidy site, pool small and disappointing (indoor/undercover pool is not really suitable for toddlers). We had a 'Grand Espace' pitch, well I'm glad we never had a standard because we could just about manoeuvre the caravan into position (with the help of some other caravanners). With a full awning we would have struggled to find space. Saying that it was in nice cul-de-sac type spot so we didn't have problems with traffic. Water and waste point on the pitch, with standard hook-up point. Small shop, friendly staff. You can not use your own charcoal barbecue, only their brick built one (they are worried about fires), your own gas one is fine. The turning into our pitch area was tight, wouldn't want to take a twin axle as I think you would struggle to get it around the narrow roads on site. Toilets were nice and clean, the only negative with these is that they were communal, with the gents peeing behind some saloon doors. The ladies in our group weren't too happy about sharing their toilets with all and sundry. Nice kiddies play area although some of the equipment could do with some maintenance.
Lovely island covered in safe cycle routes, some very pretty harbours, it's reasonably flat as well. Most people seem to cycle around.
This site is quite central so visiting anywhere on the island doesn't take long.

We stayed at this site with EUROCAMP. When we drove in we were disappointed having already stayed at La Croix du Vieux Pont: Berny-Riviere, Paris and being delighted with everything but the toilet/shower facilities.
OUR DISAPPOINTMENT WAS SHORT LIVED.
Firstly, our toilet blocks were impeccable. We had the best eurocamp pitch, the site was amazing. It was so laid back, sand everywhere, great community spirit. We made friends with people from all over Europe and there were very few Brits there for the first week 29/7. Our teenagers were ecstatic to make friends from all nations. They are still in contact and they can honestly say it was the best hol they have ever had. We enjoy hotels but I am afraid they are not for us. I like the relaxed atmosphere, the little man gutting his catch in the dark with a headlamp, the people sharing their catch of the day for 'zero'. I especially liked the dishy frenchman who pulled me to my feet when I had collapsed with dehydration brought on by food poisoning from the Paris region.
Everyone was so friendly, the beach was attached to the site, this is where all the teenagers gather after dark until silly o'clock in the morning. The beach is regularly patrolled by police and security at night time. The entertainment was somewhat 'sad' but that is because we do not speak French that well.
The Island is amazing, in certain spots it looked Caribbean. It is a seafood eaters paradise (sadly we are not, we did try oysters, whelks, mussels, crab, salmon, fois gras, horse - we had to try didn't we - I can recommend the horse)
The toll bridge was 16 euros return, this was where most of our money went with the frequent visits by my family to see me in hospital. But there is certainly no need to leave the island at all. The Pineau was delicious, it is some sort of wine/liquer mix.
We drove from Paris having done Disney, it was a long drive but doable. We are going back 2006 and will do the drive again, this time in one go there and back because the unpacking for overnight stops is exhausting and a waste of time. Get it over with I say.
My only disappointment was was the food and that was not a complaint about the site. We tried food all over and as usual were disappointed by the sheer lack of veg. A steak always came with chips, everything with chips, they were not big on vegetables at all. The markets however were amazing, as you would expect the variety there was huge and fresh and expensive, but that is what you will find when you want quality. I have decided that in 06 we will do more eating in tasting the delights of the local markets. Spending 100 euros on a meal that is not great every day is just silly and I would rather spend half of that on a good meal that I have cooked. And the benefits are that the teenagers are awake in time to wash the dishes!
My two small children were well taken care of with the site childrens club, mainly french children attended but this just added to the pleasure for our kids. It did get too hot in the afternoon and so missed most of the pm sessions.
Bla bla bla! I could go on for hours. I was disappointed when I could not find a review on this site before we went and a little apprehensive. A++++ site no regrets at all.
