We left the Lake District early due to the bad weather and arrived 2 nights early at the site. The staff were fantastic and couldnt do enough to help us. The hard standing pitches are I agree like being in a carpark but this was only because it was peak summer and pitches closer to the shore were taken. The views though from any pitch were breath taking and it was fantastic waking up to the loch.
There is a hotel attached to the site which did gorgeous food, we had 3 lovely full breakfasts there and also ate there on an evening as well, the restaurant was always busy with people from off site as well which showed how good the food was. The pub attached to the hotel was lovely, traditional and cosy with a pool table which kept me and my other half amused for a few hours.
I didnt use the toilets/showers but my other half did and he said they were clean and of a good standard. There was also a small very friendly shop which sold the basics and daily newspapers. We had a really good time at this site and would definitely go back.

We stayed a night at this site on our way to a music festival in Argyll, along with 3 friends who were in a tent.
The site is in a great location on the banks of Loch Lomond, and enjoys beautiful views over the loch. There are ducks wandering around and the site is surrounded by trees.
The facilities are clean and functional, and the adjoining hotel serves tasty meals, including a great cooked breakfast!
However, the hard-standing pitches are akin to a car park, and the staff were quite offhand and unhelpful. The camping area is separate from the caravan site, on the opposite side of a main road, and does not have its own facilities - not great if you need to use the loo in the middle of the night!
The price seemed a bit steep given the facilities and the level of service, although the location is stunning. However, there are a number of other sites in the area, and I'd be more tempted to go to one of them next time.

We used this site on our return trip from further north. We were meant to stay here for 2 nights with our touring caravans. When we arrived at 13:30 in the afternoon we found that the site reception was closed and a sign saying it was meant to be open for another 10 mins. When we got hold of someone we were told to head into carpark and ours were the first 2 pitches there. I didnt think they litrally meant we would be staying on the car park. We had just enough room to park our cars infront of the vans. We had to try and take up enough room so that we could get the vans back out early in the morning as we didnt want to stay for nights as this was pitching area we had found so far in the holiday. The toliets were not the best as discribed before me in a review, we decided a wash in the van was probebly the best thing to do. We tried not to use the toilets as they were not too clean and not the most modern. It seems to me that this site caters for saics and not touring vans.
Also beware of the road to the south if heading in or out this way with a van on the back. We were almost struck more thn once by arctic lorries using both sides of the road as it is very narrow in places. I wont be going back to this site im afraid. I will be trying others in the area though.

Used as a one night stop on the way up north. We were plonked on a car park with the rest of the vans but it could've been worse. The views are lovely from the shore and easy to find! The hotel/bar in the site and another one minute down the road are handy as there is nowhere to walk or ride bikes. Wouldn't want to stay for more than one night as it's a little pricey at £17!

There are now some tent pitches in a field across the road. We went on a busy Saturday night without booking when the other sites were full. There are no toilets without crossing the main road though. The prices are reasonable at £5 per head. Camp fires are allowed. Staff are very friendly as usual for Scots. The pub across the road is good. There's a small shop on site but we didn't go in. Apart from that there's nothing much else at Ardlui, we've got bikes but we didn't find anywhere to ride. It's okay for a 1 night stop off I suppose.

Not a good experience to be had here. I booked this site a few days previously as we were coming down from Ullapool & wanted a couple of days in the area before going home. It seemed a good spot from the details in the directory I had.
Arrived at 7.00pm and they were full. The "friendly" (sic) warden said he had had no details passed to him. I asked his supervisor who said the same. Great! To help me out I could park on there car park behind another row of vans.
Narked so far - but I suppose these things happen (why to me though)
The vans are packed like sardines on this site, with just a car width between. Yes they are all on hard standing which can be tarmac.
The view from the waterside is indeed superb, but you have to be the lucky ones at the front to benefit !
But the toilet block was the pits. And I mean the pits. The worst I have seen - and OK I have not seen too many, but it was bad. Think of showers with drains blocked and matted with masses of hair. Mens & ladies by the way. Think of ceiings & shower curtains with mildew - and the smell. Uh.
The toilets were cleaned - if cleaning was defined as squirting some blue liquid into the dirty pans / urinals & walking away leaving everything still there. Dirty walls, & floors to boot. My wife said she felt dirtier afterwards than before.
Two of the four toilets in the Gents were clean - soon found out why - the lock on the doors was not working. Same thing in the ladies mty wife said.
The washing up sink was strangely in the gents toilets (Surely this isn't right) and when I came to use it it was covered in sand. Some been feet cleaning?? Good old Dettox was duly sprayed everywhere first.
And we got charged £16 for the experience! We fled the place after one day & went home instead.
Think the site is now only interested in statics as there were many there. A flash Hotel adjoining gives this site kudos. Not for 'vans though.

July 2004 All pitches are hard standing, most with a view of the loch and within a stones throw of the shore. The hotel serves wonderful food and the staff are very welcoming. Be warned! even the locals stay away from the shore on mild evenings due to the swarms of midges!
