Just got back from this site and we won't be going back. Don't get me wrong, I love camping in "challenging" surroundings but this was too much. The area we pitched our tent on was nothing short of scrubland, a forgotten corner of the caravan site where the rubbish is stored.
Was in half a mind to turn right round and go somewhere else but we didn't know the area. We persevered.
It didn't get much better. The water in the washrooms was cold, the showers worked only when they wanted to, the lights didn't work and the paint was peeling off the walls. Even the kids commented on how dirty it was!

We hooked up with the only other family staying there and they thought the same. My recommendation? Unless you see a post after this one specifically saying money has been spent addressing the issues I have pointed out, don't go.

This is a relatively small site with about forty static caravans. The site is partly ran as a farm with pigs, goats, horses, chickens, ducks and geese roaming about. The camp site is adjacent to a tributary of the tees, based at the foot of a hill. At the top of the hill is the village of Egglestone where you can find the Moorcock, a public house which sells locally poduced home made meals which come highly recommended. On the far side of the village is the Three Tuns, less expensive but not as fresh in the food stakes. The camp site is operated by "Dave", ferocious looking but actually quite friendly and co-operative (keep the noise down if your a teenager!). Excellent access to both the wear and tees valleys, pennine way and north yorkshire. Take a look at Middleton, Barnard Castle, Alston, High Force, Cauldron Snout. Enjoy
