Kilkenny's a beautiful city and well worth a visit and Tree Grove is nice and close but it's noisy. No matter where you are on the site the road noise is intrusive.
Facilities are quite good if in need of a little modernisation. Plenty of hot water, a small wash-up area with a kettle and fridge and a TV room with a pool table in it.
It's a pleasant site but I wouldn't return. Three nights without sleep took a lot out of us

We spend many camping holidays in Ireland but this was our first visit to this site.
We were permitted to have a look round before booking in and found a pitch that suited our needs.
The site caters for tourers, motorhomes, cyclists, backpackers (lots of them, from all over Europe)
Site never seemed crowded, probably because of its terraced lay out, with paddocks used by horses from the livery stables which are adjoining the site. A joy to watch them. They seem such happy horses!
Plenty of showers (no extra charge)with plenty of hot water.(I particularly liked the non slip rubber flooring having slipped and cracked my head in the shower of a previous site).
Ample toilets and washroom, cleaned several times a day. Washing up area and campers kitchen, undercover picnic tables and games/tv room. All for a very reasonable price.
Kilkenny is a delightful city, well worth a visit.
We were there during the Arts Festival so there was plenty going on. Theatre, music (all types),film, exhibitions of painting and sculpture, street entertainment etc.
There are attractive villages and scenic areas in Co Kilkenny and adjoining Co Carlow so it is not necessary to travel great distances. If you have never visited Ireland before give it a try, you will be made most welcome whichever area you choose but take your time, don't try to see all Ireland in one holiday, savour it and come back again. Kilkenny is about an hour, hour and half from the ferry port at Rosslare so a good starting or finishing point for a holiday in Ireland.
Tree Grove is a lovely site and Dan, the owner, a very pleasant guy with a good sense of humour.

It's a while since we were there, but I remember that this site had extremely reasonable rates for such good facilities, and the owner had impressive knowledge of all aspects of touring. We could have talked for hours, and I would have learned more and more.
The site is very well-placed for all types of vehicle, and there was no noise whatsoever from the road. A few yards away is the R Nore path, which leads to an enormous park, once Castle grounds, with beautiful mature trees through which you walk to the restored Castle ( an absolute treat! ) in Kilkenny itself.
Even the dog was welcome at Tree Grove, and the indoor visitors' area was just right to relax in after sailing from Wales. Again I intend to return soon.

We just stayed on this wonderful site for ten days and as other reviewers have written found the site itself to be well maintained, Dan was an excellent host and kept letting us know of other things in the area to keep our 5 year old interested.
The camping seems to be attracting a lot of tourers stopping only for 1 or 2 nights which means the site can be kept at a very high standard, short grass, clean tidy and no troublesome groups.
We stayed during an Irish bank holiday weekend and there was one group who weren't the best behaved but the following day they were asked to leave and departed with no trouble.
A couple of swings on site along with fridge freezer, kettle, free showers, great toilet block, TV room / pool room and laundry room all added to the pleasant experience.
Would definitely stay here again although in the ten days we covered nearly 1000 miles to see all we wanted to see in the south west of the emerald isle.
An ideal touring site or just as good to do as we did and use as a base for exploring further afield. Thanks to Dan and family for their hospitality.
NB. From what I understand there is some excellent golf to be found in the area but I was unable to fit my clubs in on this occasion Grr!

Hi stayed here during April the site was not at all busy. The owner came to see us and was very friendly as were all the Irish during our holiday.
All the facilities are very good and with free showers.
The site is well situated for Kilkenny about 1/2 hour steady walk. There is a garage with a mini market about 10 mins walk away.
Kilkenny is nice but what is disapointing is that most of the restaurants and bars all have foreign staff, it is most annoying having to struggle to make yourself understood in what is essentially an English speaking country, also as in Dublin there are beggars up and down the main street again mostly from the Eastern Block.
Anyway back to the site it was very easy to find and we shall definitely stay here again in the future as they can accomodate American RV's with ease and have a dump facility!

We stayed on this site 3 yrs ago and enjoyed it so much that we returned this year. Everything is pretty much as it was then. A slightly sloping field to pitch your tent, quite busy with back packers. A camping kitchen with use of kettle and fridge and an undercover seating area. A TV room with books/magazines and info leaflets. Showers are free with unlimited hot water. 6 showers in total unisex. The ladies washroom was clean and tidy always plenty of loo roll and flowers! There is 1 plug socket in ladies for hairdryer/iron etc which is free to use. The sight is located approx 25-30 mins steady walk into Kilkenny centre either down the road or along the river. Recommended for couples and backpackers and for families wanting to sight-see in the area. If we return to Ireland we will visit this site again.

June 2003 It was over a year ago that I visited this site, so things may have changed. The facilities were fine. The warden gave us a very warm welcome, gave us a local map and highlighted the 'must sees' of Kilkenny. As the site was quiet, he also advised us to move our tent to the caravan area for our comfort as he had heard the weather forecast!

August 2003 This site is beautiful!! It says there are only 30 pitches but there are more like 60+. We camped for 2 nights. The tent field is at the top of a slope ( the site is terraced), the field was lovely and flat, the grass nice and short, and very clean and tidy. We arrived before dinner and the site did fill up quickly towards evening, so my advice is arrive early. The facilities are great. Free showers, very clean toilet block, plug socket for hair dryer (free), small room with pool table and TV, several picnic tables next to a campers kitchen and pot washing area. The man at reception (the colonel!!) was very friendly and helpful, advising us of good pubs and restaurants etc. Kilkenny centre is about a 25 minute walk away along the side of a river. The site is located off a main road on the outskirts of the city, but there was no traffic noise. Highly recommended, the best site I have been on in a long time.
