Upon booking a couple of pitches for this campsite, I was amazed if not a little bewildered at the price of the pitch for two weeks. Think it come to about £225.
Its prime location makes it ideal for walking (takes 15 minutes) into Newquay town centre. Don't let other people tell you its a nigh-on vertical hike into the town centre its not, unless you old or unfit. If that is the case there's regular bus services that will take you into town.
On the other hand being so near the coast being in a tent means your exposed to the strong winds. We were pitched at the top of hill and were a little exposed to say the least, had to buy stronger pegs. Also we were pitched right next to a school, which I can imagine to be a little off-putting during term time. However it wasn't so we were fine.
The facilities were basic and did the trick. The main gripe that I had was paying for a shower. I'm not tight but you have to walk all the way down to the booking office to get pay 20p for a token, that was if anybody was actually in the booking office to serve you. Why don't you just make them coin operated. There's no swimming pool but I think that having a campsite so near to Newquay vastly outweighs one measily swimming pool. Other people may disagree.
The staff are very friendly. Had very good conversations with the wardens and they were always happy to lend a hand should you need it.
All in all it was a good stay. Not dazzling but its ideal location saves you a bomb in taxi fares. Try booking a tuc tuc its amazing.
Recommendations; Newquay zoo (in walking distance, so close you can hear the lions roar).
The Tavern (Decent, hearty cheap meals. I got surf and turf, proper langustines and sirlion for £9!. Also within walking distance)

We used to come here in the seventies and as far as I am concerned, we loved it.
However my wife, our 3 year old son and I came here in August 2010 and were not happy. The hill is absolutely massive when coming back from toilets, or shower or shop.
There was nowhere for our son to play when he met his 'new' friends.
The shop should put a sign further up the hill to tell you if it is open as they seemed to have long lunch times, one day until 3. 30.
The warden was a very nice man.
The site was so cramped it was unbelievable. We had to park on an incline with no bricks, so we kept falling out of bed.
Above all, if you go out for breakfast and come back after supper, it is fine.

A good site near to town, pubs and beach, but the entrance has a steep hill to get on site, its bad enough walking up or in a car, I think my old car with caravan on back would not have made it up the hill? Thinking about going next year with tent. If you are staying in town you can leave the car parked up and walk or catch the bus, the tent site is at the top of the hill. We had a look around. Looked fine to me. In the static caravan all was up to standard. Out side the gate turn right to get to town 10 minutes, straight on to the Fisteral beach, 15 minutes

We first visited the Trenance site last summer and were pleasantly surprised by the whole site, staff - everything.
The facilities are relatively basic, yes you need to put coins in the showers and they cut off after a given time and yes you do have to walk to a seperate block for the showers. However, to us these 'basics' are all part and parcel of camping. For us, the more important things include: friendly and helpful wardens, quiet calm and clean site, a site suitable and safe for families, perfect location for visiting the beach. Town. North Coast. Cornwall.
The 'direct' walk into Newquay is up a steep stepped path up the hill alonside the railway bridge (you can see the bridge from the campsite and yes you have to climb up to the top!) but we with our children have no problem. The alternative is a more leisurely flat walk into town.
Obviously, the town has all the great things you'd expect with any town - great places to eat, fantastic views and beaches, super places to drink and socialise etc etc but nearer to the site, in fact almost just outside, is the boating lake and nearby the complex which includes an indoor pool with water slides and Newquay Zoo. Fab even when the weather is a little duller or you simply don't fancy the walk into town.

We booked into Trenance Holiday Park for a week in August and travelled down from Torquay, where we had stayed for a week.
We arrived at around 10.30 and were relieved that we would be able to go to our pitch straight away rather than have to wait for the official check-in time.
The hill up to the pitch was very steep! However the warden directed us to our pitch and was very friendly and helpful. We had to use about 4 breeze blocks to make our caravan level, which was a bit awkward.
The pitch had a man made hill that gave some privacy, however they did tend to squeeze as much people in as they could.
The toilets were basic with very few locks on the toilets. I used a bit of toilet paper folded between latch and door to keep it closed.
The site was very near to the town, which is a big bonus. I read another review and it said about the big hill into town. We were told by the warden about the big hill (side of a mountain)or you can walk around under the bridge and it's easier.
We went up the hill one day and never again! We just stuck with the path under the bridge. Be under no illusions, this place is hilly! No matter what way you go to get into the town center, you have to go up some incline.
We took bicycles which helped to carry our items if we were going to the beach, which was ideal as parking in the town was very troublesome as most good tourist destinations are.
The site was quiet at night, and if we were ever down in Newquay would stay in the site again because of its ideal location to the town center and the price was reasonably good.

I used this site when I visited Newquay with a mate in my campervan. I was slightly dubious owing to the negative review that has been posted but decided to go for it on the basis that it is the closest camp site to the town. I am a member of the caravan and camping club and you do come to expect a pretty good standard with those sites so I was unsure of what to expect. I am pleased to say that there was nothing negative about my stay at the site at all. The wardens are very friendly and very helpful. We turned up early (prior to the check in time) and we were welcomed without hesitation. The pitch was flat and plenty big enough for the van and a large awning. The water tap was close and the pitch had electrical hook up. The on-site facilities such as shower/toilet blocks are quite old and whilst not luxurious they are kept very clean and the showers were hot all the time so no complaints there at all. The site was fairly busy but there were no problems with noise at all. Overall, I think the site is good, the cost is very reasonable and the proximity to Newquay is A1. We were there for mountain biking during the day and enjoying the party atmosphere in the town at night and I will definitely stay at the site again.

The camp site is extremely close to the town & being used to visiting camp sites in the middle of no where, my first impression was "this isnt for me". However I was more than pleasantly pleased with the site.
It put a different spin on things being so close to the town & made a pleasant change to wander into the town & on the beaches. For the more adventurous you can climb the hill and drop back down the other side into town (which we did & was thoroughly amusing watching my girlfriend struggle) or for the less fit simply walk round.
If you dont know Newquay have a good drive around because we didnt realise how much was on our doorstep. There are some lovely views from the cliffs & an excellent pub/restaurant were you can get freshly made cream teas right on the cliffs looking over the whole of newquay (near the pitch & putt).
Anyway back to the campsite. The Pitch size was more than adequate & the pitches were in rows, seperated with small man made hills which gave quite a bit of privacy. The pitches are on a hill which we thought might have been a problem but even with the terrible rain we didnt have any problems.
The toilets and showers were of plenty & always clean & tidy & although they were basic worked remarkably well. (showers are on a token basis & after reading reviews about other camp sites thought this may be a problem but at 20p for 10 mins, & more than 1 place to buy the tokens, it wasnt any bother at all.)
The warden was friendly & helpful & regulary patrolled round the site to check everything was fine & let people get on as they wish.
Over all I would use this site again & recommend it for all age groups.

We wanted to add a response to the review posted below! Just to clear up a few misconceptions. 1) You don't have to walk up a steep hill to get into town (that is one route you could take, but is not advisable unless you're feeling very athletic!). The town is around ten minutes away and the walk is virtually flat. (No other campsites are situated so close to the town centre.) 2) The cost over May Bank Holiday this year would not have been £28 per night to camp but £28 FOR THREE NIGHTS, making it approx. £9 per night. We are still one of the cheapest campsites in and around Newquay to our knowledge; we are very proud of this fact, and it is probably the main reason that we still have many loyal customers who return year after year. 3) We are sorry about the distress caused by the plastic shower heads, this has now been reported to maintenance. Thanks for reading! Hope this will clarify a few facts!

Me and my partner always visited this site in our early courting days as this is the closest campsite to Newquay town centre and you can easily walk to all Newquay's facilities (albeit up a very steep hill). We visited the site this year after a 3 year break and our priorities have changed as we now have an 18 month old. Unfortunately we think the site has deteriorated over the past few years. There is a shop, takeaway and launderette but the dated shower facilities took the shine off these facilities. There are plenty of showers but the majority of shower heads have been replaced with cheap plastic ones that only let a trickle of water through. Considering you have to put a token in a box on the outside of the cubicle, it can be a bit worrying as to whether you are able to shower fully before the water turns cold. Plus the blocks were overrun by what we thought were cockroach but were told by staff they were beetles. Ladies, I thought the best shower was second from the furthest end on the right hand side. We had tried to get in for the May bank holiday weekend for the Run to the Sun weekend but I'm glad it was fully booked - it would have cost us £28.00 per person per night for such facilities! I don't think we'll go back here in a hurry.
