Very mixed feelings about this site really. The club is o.k, about what you expect from a family park like this and geared for the children, our 2yr & 8yr old enjoyed it, more seating would be good although from my experience there's never enough at these places. Showers & loos always really clean (a big plus). Didn't use pool so can't comment on that. The only major problem we found with this site was the ground in the main field was rock hard, loads of stones and the most dirty dust i,ve ever come across whilst camping, it blew in the tent so everyting became dirty and you can imagine how my 2yr old loved to roll in it, I couldn't keep him clean for 5 mins! I've come home from music festivals feeling cleaner and unfortunaly because of this would not return.

Definite family site. Lots of kids. Pool is a bit small but nice. Site is well kept. Take ear plugs if you want to sleep before midnight. The site is geared up mainly for people hiring statics. The touring setup is a bit second rate, space wise, and very busy in school holidays. Good site shop and bar. Good walks in local forest. Not a quiet site, very busy but great for kids.

If you like campsites that are over-crowded, with inadequate toilet facilities - and campers who are very loud with loads of screaming children running around late at night (and early in the morning) then this site is for you! The tents are pitched almost on top of each other, there is no where for the children to play, except for in the road - which is very busy both day and night -because many people drive to the toilet and shower blocks as they are so far away from the Meadows! You do not have any privacy to sit out and enjoy the evenings. Although the pool is very nice - it is open to not only Oakdene customers, but Forest Edge and also private members that it becomes so crowded you are unable to move - let alone swim. Certainly a huge disappointment!

Oakdene is a large campsite with the main part of the site around the central complex being mainly large static homes, the campers are mostly situated in a meadow around the back of the main area (5 min walk away). Due to the distance from the washing up and shower facilities, there are some portacabins at the bottom of the meadow. These were very clean and tidy with lots of hot water (no queues), only downside were that the showers were rather small, there was also no bath that we had found useful for bathing our 18mth year old at another campsite. The pool (free) was great and it had a water slide that our little boy Samuel couln't get enough of.
The onsite diner was expensive and not that good, the shop is a spar shop with everything that you would need (a little expensive) but there is a Sainsbury's 2 miles down the road. To sum it up, this is a big business campsite not your small friendly campsite, however you cannot complain at £30 for 4 nights.

We have just arrived back from our 1st camping trip and had a lovely time at this site. We stayed right at the back of the Meadows in what looks to be their overflow field. It is quite a way from the loos and showers and about 15 minutes walk from the amenities, but it was quiet with not really much traffic with it being out of the way. Kids had a whale of a time exploring and making friends. Pool is fairly small and very busy, but we were expecting this as it was summer holidays. Didn't use the clubhouse as we tended to stay around our tent in the evening. Shop quite expensive, but there is a Sainsburys and a Lidl up the road. Would definitely go back again ( in fact we tried for august bank hols but they were fully booked)

For a first time camper, Oakdene was great. With two small kids we had a serviced pitch (no need for electricity or water) to be nearer the toilet block and main building to break us in easier. The meadow had a better 'camaraderie' feel to it with the tents closer together, and I'm sure they all enjoyed walking all that way to use the loos! The staff were helpful in making sure we got settled in quickly. The tents were well spaced out and all the relevant services were close by. The only thing I would say about the place was a real lack of recycling. Considering the amount of empties that were getting thrown out (bins full of beer bottles!)on packing up day you have thought recycling would have had a greater profile Didn't use any of the resturants, or see any of the shows. The pools were great, my four year old must have gone down that slide at least 100 times. I've booked another weekend just to make sure the pleasures of camping wasn't a fluke.

Just returned today ,we had a week there ,and it was great, toilets clean ,staff friendly ,swimming pool the kids loved! went in twice a day , even the weather was good, only downside they ran out of fosters! mind you it was after england had lost . Kids entertaintment was ok we only used the club twice ,all in all a great time was had by us and our friends who went with us, it seems to be very popular at weekends and fills up fast. Local shops in area great , shop is expensive we just used it for the papers in the morning. Will return next year and we have heard that is the last year in 2007 for tourers as it is being made just static vans, which is a shame.

Pleasant enough with helpful staff and a good location for visiting other parts of the New Forest, but not outstanding and I didn't really think great value at £30 a night. We used all of the facilities while we were there (except for purchasing food in the cafe.) The Spar Supermarket was useful if you ran out of something, but expensive. Pool was ok, but very small for the size of the camp - it was really just somewhere for the children to mess around in rather than a swimming pool (about 5 strokes wide and only 1.2 meters deep so not really a "proper" swimming pool!) There was also a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room in the pool area, (strictly over 16s,) which was good. The "outside" pool areas are nowhere near as large as they look in the photos - and in good weather would be very cramped as the whole area is fenced off. Gym was good and well equipped - again age limit strictly enforced. Entertainment was poor. If you're looking for endless children's competitions and kids discos every night until at least 9:30, followed by dismal "cabaret" then this would be great, but if not ,steer clear as frankly, I've heard and seen better on a pub karaoke night. The other bar was strictly adults, so we couldn't use that either! Pitches are level, hard standing for caravan and awning with grass surround. Beware the water temperature in washing up and toilet areas - it verged on scalding at times, and there was no way of regulating it. It would definitely have been too hot for young children. Apart from that good standard, not much waiting for showers and clean. The other "meadow" field for touring and tents was a nicer location but much further away from main block and waterlogged when we visited. In summary then, great if you like a "Butlins" type atmosphere on a much smaller scale

We visited in Oct 05. Despite some really wet weather the site kept the facilities spotless. Toilets and showers were well heated (a big plus in Oct!) and very clean. The swimming pool is also very cleanand the changing rooms nice and warm.
The on site shop is well stocked and if you need any camping or caravan essentials there is a well equipped camping shop next door. The walks into the forest are lovely. The site is very flat and accessable for touring caravans. Nearby are a number of pubs and a Sainsburys.
We are definitely going again.

Fully serviced pitches are flat and quite large, although the hard standings hold a lot of water, and in rain you will struggle to keep the awning floor dry. Take your rock pegs with you!!!
Site has easy access off the main road, and is some distance from it, but still suffers from some road noise, and plane noise. There is a camping shop adjacent to the site entrance, handy yes, but it is lit up at night, so light pollution is a problem.
The site has direct access into the Avon Forest (not the New Forest) with long walks. The site has it's own Forest ranger with organised activities. Indoor pool and flume good, club house (expensive drinks btw). Burger bar type Cafe on site and Spar shop, again both expensive. Within a 2 min drive from the site entrance is Sainsburys, Hakfords, Lidl and 2 pub type restaurants.
By 6pm there is security on the complex doors, and you will not get in (not even to the shop) without your passes. Toilet and shower block was nice and new, cleaned once a day.
